Devil's advocate here.
I love my RAS the blond furniture is a nice change everything fit together well and all I had to do to change it to magpul stuff was follow the directions.
I killed 3 jack rabbits with 5 shots it feeds well and I haven't had any problems with it and I've put 500 plus rounds through it

So. I'm gonna say as long as you get a current production one you should be alright. WASR users and Arsenal fans will still turn their noses up at it but I enjoy it plus its a cheaper way to get used to the platform.

It costs just as much as a WASR, a rifle that is renowned for being exactly what an AK should be without costing a lot

I just don't know how it's possible for IO to make an AK so poorly, try to fix sloppy tolerances by overgassing the thing, and still managing to sell the time bombs without being sued.

I had my reasons, but I bought an IO Hellcat, a crude keltec p380 knock off.

Garbage gun, mag dropped out when fired.

Turns out the barrels also were made badly, and they had some ka-booms.

There was a lawsuit about the barrels and their specs were bad.

Worst part - IO NEVER DID A RECALL.

For the few IO Hellcats out there, beware, that shit could blow because the barrel is too tight.

the way I see it is the RAS is the secessor to the WASR crown cause remember it wasn't that long ago that wobbly mags, rusted barrels and spotty construction were all faults of the WASR when they first came to the States.

That's really not bad. WASRs run for about $700-750 at sporting good stores. I picked mine up for about $560 just over a year ago.

the n-pap is a solid rifle that will last the rest of your life. keep it dude seriously, one day it will probably be worth more then it is now. just save up some money and get a wasr-10 or a parts kit from ak-builder and a receiver and have someone compotent build it for you or give it a go yourself. stay away from I.O. or the ras47. also keep a eye out on armslist sometimes people sell decent ak's on there for a good price or you can at least talk them down, check out pawnshops too and used gun stores.

While I have no experience with IO AKs, I have experience with IO grading surplus and the customer service of their retail branch, royal tiger.

The only other Polish made firearms available are m44 nagants ($400 if you can find one) tt33's and that uzi looking carbine ( ours has a 18.5 inch barrel)

Oh and soon we will have pssh41/43s but with long ass barrels :/
