The CZ Sp01 pistols are great handguns.

Which is why they are very popular in competition use. Good triggers, great ergonomics with low barrel axis and a nice solid frame that helps soak up recoil for quicker follow up shots.

I lose a lot of respect for gun stores that try to pull this on people. It's probably true that it will take that gun store that long to get another new SP-01 from their supplier. However, if they really wanted to, they could facilitate you being able to buy that gun in about a week. All they'd have to do is swallow their pride, tell you to buy the gun online, and hope that you get the gun shipped to their store so they can get $20-30 for the transfer fee.

As someone who works in a gun store, CZ direct buys will take 6 months to show up on the safe side. Want a limited production gun like one of the less common Dan Wessons, a 750 or Urban Counter Sniper? Try a year to wait on that one, at a minimum.


Lipsey's stuff comes in about a week, so when I have guns in stock through distributors, they are a few bucks more than direct but they are available with 10 days from placing order. Thing is, Lipsey's, any other distributors may list the CZ product you want and it is already allocated, out of stock, etc.

By all means order a gun online. I bear none of the risk of purchasing a special order a customer could back out of (this is why we prepay but whatever) I assume no depreciation risk if the gun doesn't sell. Doesn't take up space on my showroom floor, and the 30 dollars I charge for the FFL transfer is for about 15 minutes of paperwork on my end of things. Considering guns don't carry good margins by and large, 30 bucks for an FFL transfer is easy money. For guys who do it from their kitchen table, that 20 bucks or less they charge is making pretty excellent profit margins for them.


When people tell you something will be a long wait or is out of stock, it's because it will be a long wait or is out of stock.

with 1911s, barrel bushings are seen as a weak link since that's one more part that can result in a poor barrel to slide fit vs a bull barrel gun.

it seems like the better CZ 75's and derivatives (CZ Shadow, Tanfo Stock II/III) have bushings though.
