I do it at any hour of the day if I'm not expexting company. Of course I do have two 80+ lbs dogs that greet them first via the window next to my door but hey you never know if could be the police or ATF.

I just mag dump into the door any time past sundown.

Nothing beats the element of surprise.

Protip

"Answering" the door doesn't require opening it. Standing off to either side in case someone decides to bust it down or a put a shotgun shell through it you can calmly ask what you can help them with and proceed to say you aren't interested, discover it is a friendly, etc.

My front door is largely made of glass in the center. It's difficult to see more than silhouettes, which lets me see immediately how many people are out there from a distance, but it also exposes me to them (especially at night).

But it kinda prevents me from answering the door with the barrel of a pistol pressed against the door.

My front door's "peephole" is a camera connected to my cctv system. I check that first and then answer.
