I dunno honestly. I took the elements of a lot of rifles.
I like my rifle so much though that I just ordered all the parts I need to build another rifle just like it, but with a magnified optic.
>>29840215
You've really got an axe to grind.
A2 stock masterrace. Daily reminder that carbine and A1 stocks are for manlets who can't handle real length of pull.
>>29840230
Actually, I just realized that for a lot of my rifle, I copied what Skeletor has going. His rifle and I's are vaguely similar.
>>29840191
i have no idea what inspired my 14.5"(maybe psychedelics) but my 10.3 is somewhat inspired by the mk18 and the vw Golf Harlequin

>what inspired your build
Wanted a rifle length FF quad 16", hated my experience with magpul furniture, wanted good illumination and a red dot because HD/I plink no further than 200 yards typically
So I just got a KAC 200-600m BUIS and the top part of the sight, the peep sight portion seems to lean to the left slightly when viewed from the rear.
Is this normal? or does it even matter considering I can change the left/right adjustment?
pic isn't my sight but if it would help I can go snap a shitty pic with my phone and upload it.
i'll admit i have a penchant for tacticool but mainly i just buy whatever if its a great deal
>>29840191
Pic related was inspired by a Noveske project ares build I saw back in 2012.
>>29840191
How many of your put upgraded drop-in triggers into your ARs.?
If your lower came with a "mil-spec' trigger group, do you keep and use it that way?
or spend $200+ on a better drop in lime timney or BRO?
I've got a an LE6920 with a stock trigger, seems like heavy pull and i feel like im jerking the rifle around when i pull the trigger.
Considering buying a drop in because i want to tighten up my groupings. Or do i need to learn to shoot with a heavy trigger pull first?
>>29840301
What's that optics on the top rifle? I'm thinking of getting an acog type optics for my 7.62.
How much did it cost? Like it?
>>29840305
>zenitco on ar
What the fuck
I am going to repost this here. I got about 1500 to spend on a AR build. I have zero idea where to start and I would like to make it as tacticool as possible.
Are all AR lowers created equal? Assuming you get milspec and from a not no-name manufacturer are the only differences the brand on it?
>>29840386
ta33(r8). i paid $750 for it from amazon. its great. good eye relief, 3x power, a little longer but less bulky than other models. the downside is its sometimes described as like looking down a straw. a bit exaggerated IMO, but i can see why they say that (no pun intended)

Is your gun cerakoted? Sometimes of the tolerances are already tight on the rail, the cerakote pushes it just out of spec and some things cant over a bit. My eotech does that. Doesn't do a thing, though once I got it sighted in.
>>29840427
Yes,
The only difference is the rollmark.
>>29840373
I'd put a good trigger on it now if I intended to ever. Better to build habits the way you want.
I put a CMC 3.5lb flat trigger on mine. Feels good, man.

>>29840392
It was surprisingly comfy, though I've since gone full circle and am back to URX 3 handstop panel.
>>29840456

Might be an optical illusion. The turret on the side just makes it look lopsided.
Cover the picture with your hand so that the turret can't be seen, then look again.
>>29840373
All but 1 of my AR's has a high end trigger in it (mix of Geisseles and a pair of CMC's). I don't know if I have bad luck with build kits or what, but every milspec trigger I've tried is around 9lbs and super creepy with a long reset. Pretty hard to shoot well with those.
For what you'd pay for an "enhanced milspec" or for a trigger job from a competent smith on a milspec, you're better off saving up the extra $50 to get you into a CMC or Larue.

Between $750 and $900 for a used one. And I fucked that up a little. The non-CHF premium middy is $300, the CHF carbine is $300, the CHF middy is $500, so either a CHF carbine (ew) or a non-CHF middy for $300. The complete lower is $250, and the stock is ~$50. Any ACOG under a grand and you're under $1500.

The local tactical-ish gunshop fucked up the installation of a front sight base. It's canted, and the goddamn taper pins didn't even fit.
>order barrel and fsb pinning from WO, but they don't have an fsb to pin for me
>the barrel I want isn't available with an fsb from factory
>take barrel and fsb to nearby gunshop
>Red Flag 1: I get the one Fudd who doesn't understand when I say "I have and AR barrel and front sight base that needs to be drilled for taper pins"
>He at least gets someone else to help me
>Red Flag 2: I get a call 10 days later. It's the smith and he wants to drill/install straight pins instead. I tell him I want the taper pins as is mil-spec. He says that's fine, but he was trying to save me time and money.
>I go to pick the barrel up a few days later.
>It looks correct, the taper pins are half-way in, but I figure that's because they had to remove the spacer they would have needed
>But then I look down the barrel, lining up the indexing tab with the fsb. It looks canted.
>Red Flag 3: I ask the guy who retrieved my barrel for me for a second opinion. He says he sees what I see, but it's just a product of the fluorescent lighting.
>I take it home and install my free-float rail then slide the fsb onto the barrel.
>It is clearly canted when compared to the handguard, not enough to dick up the gas tube alignment.
>Maybe it'll straighten a little once the pins are in
>Pins are being bastards. They're definitely going in the correct side, though.
>One pin gets most of the way in, but starts to mushroom
>Second pin doesn't get near as close before it mushrooms
>Fsb still definitely canted
I'm fucking livid. I'm pissed that I second-guessed myself three times where I should have NOPE'd out of that shop. I only took it to them because I lacked access to a nice drill press. I could have done this amateur job myself for free.

Is the Vortex Strike Eagle any good?

>>29841749
Yeah, it's pretty great for the price.
>>29841749
Pretty hard to beat for the money.
I greatly prefer it to my Leupold mk4 1.5-5x, if for no other reasons than a better reticle and much larger FOV. The Strike Eagle is significantly larger and heavier though.

damn. I've got some minimal forward/backward 'play' on mine (it's under tension and returns to the same position, isn't flapping around), but left/right would...bother me, to say the least

solid man. Glass is clear and the dot is very sharp. The 403A I have features a motion sensor for auto-on, and a 50k hour battery life (single CR2032) so you can use it worry free

The bolt on my AR pistol won't lock back because the BCG won't go all the way back. I have a cheap chinese pistol buffer tube/spring/piston. What should I do?
It's not a huge deal, but I suspect that the spring being fully compressed in the buffer tube is probably bad for longevity. Putting excess stress on the buffer tube threads and whatnot.

this guy pretty much made me decide to put together an ar. with striking similarities
Also, to actually stick to the edition topic...my middy came about, at the very beginning, from a demo of Blacksite: Area 51. Yes, that completely forgettable FPS from nearly a decade ago. I liked how cool the M4A1 in it was, and how it managed to be simple, yet effective. That in turn lead me to pay more attention to the rifles I'd see on the news of guys in the sandbox, and when the time finally came that I bought a (midlength) A2 carbine, that urge resurfaced. I wanted a simple, practical carbine with a RD, VFG, quadrail, A2 FSB, and a rear BUIS.
IT'S PAYDAY! YEEHOO, I think I'll start looking local in my local funstores first for a lower tomorrow
>>29843322
My A1 build was inspired by We Were Soldiers. The urge only really hit a couple years ago when I rewatched it again for the first time in a long while. I'd only recently gotten my first AR, and the historian part of me quickly decided I needed one. Back then, I thought all M-16s in 'Nam were A1s, and was completely oblivious to the fact that they were depicted using XM16E1s in the movie.

Nothing. I took it to them originally to get it unpinned, then gave it to a buddy who told me he had the proper tools to take off the muzzle brake and put on my new one, and it turns out that he didn't have the proper tools and that the gun smith didn't properly unpin the muzzle device, so when he took it out he fucked up the finish on my barrel and the sloppily unpinned device destroyed the threads, so they had to chop down the barrel. My buddy had also tried to put the MAMS on over the destroyed threads saying that there was totally enough clearance and that it wouldn't fuck up the threads, but he was wrong, and fucked the threads up the process. I just chalk it all up to me being stupid enough to trust LGSs and friends.

What's a good medium-heavy contour rifle length barrel that is nitrided?
Also is a qpq/nitride/melonite finish over 416R stainless steel completely pointless?
this is for muh tactical DMR build
Is windham weaponry a good company to get an upper from?
gunz
>>29844055
The MicroMOA family of barrels is right up your alley, but they use 4150 CMV steel. Still come with an accuracy guarantee thanks their use of match grade blanks.
Melonite on 416R stainless works great actually, as the nitriding actually does help toughen and harden the steel. Question is that some companies do it well, some do not. The molten salt that is used in meloniting can be enough to mess up the heat treat and stress relief on a match grade barrel.
The companies that are aware of this and address this issue (Micro MOA, Ballistic Advantage, Griffin Armament) are fine, but there are some Melonited barrels that shoot like shit because of the treatment.

I've been before. Its probably my favorite museum tied with the 9/11 museum in NYC
>>29845293
I still need to go to the 9/11 museum, I havent been to NYC since they turned ground zero into a memorial
I haven't been to any gun stores in my area, I wonder if any have stripped lowers, I'd like to find an anderson
>>29845306
Same man, I'd like to see the museum too

How much does POI change from 62g M855 to 77g OTM ammo?
I want to do some accuracy testing on my AR using 55g, 62g, 69g, and 77g ammo.

It was probably the most impactful museum I've been. They have the assault shirt of one of the seals that participated in neptunes spear and a brick taken from the UBL compound, which I thought was cool.
The air and space museum is just cool a fuck because who doesn't love fucking planes?
>>29845343
only way to know, is to try it out.
55gr generally shoots 1" above my 77gr zero.

A&S was cool for all the space shit, but in terms of seeing cool planes the museum at WPAFB is god tier. They have like, 3 spitfires, an Me262, B52, F22, BF109, pretty much everything.
Going down there this weekend actually.
>>29845364

I'm just wondering because I've been seeing "Match Ammo" get outpreformed by cheap shit on a bunch of videos and I wonder how my rifle will do with it

Probably heroin cause New Hampshire, that tan van and undercover sheriffs have been poking around the neighborhood for the past couple of months
What was weird was there were only 2 marked cars at the house
Does anyone have an opinion on the C7? How similar is it to the AR?
Sup famalam.
What're you dudes up to today?
Gotta run to the DMV right now to do a title transfer. Then to the mall, picking up my new sport coat from the tailor. Then I gotta run to the hardware store. Gonna buy some paint and check local prices for hardwood flooring materials. Thinking about seeing how viable swapping the carpet out on my ground floor is with hardwood. And seeing if my landlord would eat the cost of the project out of the rent since it'll increase the value of the unit.
>>29845379
yeah, it should all hit within a 6" circle.
can't comment on cheap ammo outperforming match but it may be that those people had the wrong twist rate.

Heading into work in about 15. Drinking coffee and dreading working in thunderstorms all day in a gulley. Kinda hope they call today off so I can finally finish ds3.
I was mulling over picking up a MRO but last night I saw a pair of Salomon Quest 4d in my size on Amazon for a lot cheaper than usual so I bit the bullet and now my discretionary funds will have to wait for next week to be replenished. Yeah I could order it but I don't like buying stuff on credit.
This picture right here inspired a 4 year long quest to repro this AR. I've finally got it almost done.
Finding that handguard was a bitch, I searched for about six months. Now there is one on ebay just sitting there.

thanks man, I can't put into words why it appeals to me but ever since I saw that picture I really wanted that gun. Only major change I went with is using a 14.5" socom profile barrel. Once it comes back from being pinned, I'll post pictures.
>>29845572
JP enterprises JPHG-4G with the JPHG-EXT extension, which serves as a cutout for a FSB on a carbine-gas length barrel. They stopped making them a while ago, but it's a rock solid free float which allows you to use a FSB and have a grip further down the axis of the barrel.

hey guys im looking at building an AR for fun. I dont intend on putting more than a few hundred rounds through it per year. Considering that I wont be shooting it much and it will be limited exclusively to the range, could I get by with a cheaper polymer lower?
i feel like an African child drinking these supplements
>>29845888
Cheap polymer lowers suck, stay with a milspec anderson lower. You can pick them up for less than $50

I'd just say that a lighter color would be better. A tan color like khaki or sand serves as a good base. FDE and Coyote are darker.

The instruction manual for my angle grinder said only to use grinding wheels and not cutting wheels.
I need the cutting wheel because I don't also own a dremel.

Can some one who knows about cheap ass angle grinders give me some advice here.
My angle grinder says not to use straight cutoff wheels, but if I flip the retaining nut upside down and tighten it down it holds it just as secure as it would normally, and it has all the clearance and shit that it needs.
Nothing should go wrong as long as I am careful, right?

>>29846518
if you want mas grey youll have to check ebay, I dont believe LBT is producing mas grey gear right now. There are also other PC's that are very comperable but more affordable, I paid $350 for mine including shipping but they retail for $400+
A lot of folks love the mayflower APC, which is very similar to the LBT but they run about $200
>>29846525
kek, no
>>29846537
Neat, that works.
I just checked their website and I didn't see any gray plate carriers or gear, which is a bit of a downer but like you said, I bet it would be less expensive on ebay.
Any plate carrier similar to that, is what I'm really looking for. Color doesn't matter too much because I don't think it will be an immediate purcahse

I'm so sorry, I watched that robocop document and it seems like you guys have a rough go of it up there.
>>29846612
I bought the Noveske edition Mur-1 specifically for the build, came with a pre drilled hole
>>29846633
It's pretty much a shithole, but I'm here more or less by choice so...
>>29846629
And here it is with the cutoff wheel that the manual says not to use. But the nut holds it securely in place when I just flip it upside down and tighten it down.
I plugged it in and gave it a spin, and it seemed fine, but I haven't cut anything with it.
>>29846627
Ah, rubberized. I could kinda tell they weren't just plain wood. I'll have to see if there are some that'll fit my 1911 .22.
>>29846650
well they're plastic buddy, for your 19111 try some pachmeyr grips. They look pretty spiffy and feel great.
are polymer lowers terrible for any reason I should know about?
>>29846643
They're probably covering their asses by saying not to do that. Keep the guard on and tighten the wheel down. Let it run for a minute and pay attention to see if you can feel or see any wobble. If it wobbles and it's tight, I wouldn't use it. If it doesn't wobble, you'll be fine. That being said, use your head and don't be stupid and bind the wheel or jam it.
>>29846707
Gotcha. That's pretty much what I figured was going on.
Normally I would use the proper grinding disk, but I need the cutoff wheel to cut the delta ring off of an upper because the grinding wheel is way too huge. So if it can make it through a little bit of aluminum it'll be fine.
And the handguard retainer, but that's just stamped metal.
So as long as it stays tight it should be fine?
>>29846705
Not really. They can handle standard usage. Not something you would want to take into a battle but it's reliable enough. It can handle the minimal heat it's exposed to. It's strong and durable. But it's not battle tested.
I trust polymers made by sig and glock, but the AR-15 industry is newer to the Polymer lower game. Maybe in a few years they'll be in more common use.
While lowers are low-stress areas of the rifle, just keep it in mind. If weight is your goal, go for it. If you're just being a cheap fuckass over 20-30 dollars savings, don't do it.
>>29846749
What this guy said. Unless you are trying to be snowflakey or save as much weight as possible, you can go to your FLGS and pay no more than $70 to get an Anderson lower that does the same thing as all the other milspec lowers you have seen.
>>29846723
Yeah as long as it's tight it should be fine. Don't try doing any weird cuts or the likes. Just cut in a straight line. If you need to make a curved cut, do something like you would with a circular saw. Or just do a straight cut down and smooth it out as you see fit.
>>29846749
I would prefer to buy an aluminum lower really but my LGS are jerkoffs and don't actually sell them (I think they worship polymer, actually), and their transfer fees are unreasonable.
>>29846761
See above.
>>29846770
then be willing to drive and do business with a better FFL. Really, don't sell yourself short or chain yourself to a local store if they don't do good business.
http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/mobile/product/84212/redirect
Price match and type in 380 and you'll get it for 389. My money isn't green enough for them since I live in New York.
>>29846763
Straight cuts should be fine. I'm not even going to use it on the A2 FSB to trim it, I should be able to do all of that with the grinding wheel.
As long as I can weaken the delta ring and handguard retainer enough, I'll just rip them off with vice grips and a flat head once they are weak.
>>29846770
Find a better LGS. Don't give bad people good business.
>>29846788
Oh I thought you were using it to cut the A2 fsb. Yeah you'll be fine with the delta ring and handguard retainer. I'd put a cut on opposite sides and make it easy but that's me.
>>29846801
For the delta ring I was going to cut on opposite sides until I can pry it off with a flat head.
The retainer I'm not sure, but if I come in on the side of it I should be able to weaken it enough that I can just rip it off with vice grips.
I'm trying to avoid having to remove the FSB from the barrel for this, because every one else had so much trouble with the taper pins. I am going to remove the gas tube though.
I may try my hand at removing the taper pins once it gets here. Supposedly sometime this afternoon.
