Partially. My whole maternal side of the family is in education and tend to lean towards the left side of the political spectrum. I absolutely know how I feel. The only one who knows I have guns is my mom, and she made me promise not to keep ammo in my house. I told her I can't do that, I live in the country and need a loaded shotgun near the door incase some podunk nigger tries breaking in and stealing my shit. My grandma and grandpa would have a heart attack even though my grandma has a revolver, my aunt would burst out in tears (thus getting the attention while making me look bad infront of my family) and my sisters would shun me as they travel further into the tumblrsphere. It's not that I hate preppers, it's that my mom tries to be one but isn't actually prepped for anything more likely than the power being out for a while. My dad also CC's just about everywhere he goes. While he is prepper as fuck, he is rational about it. Maybe being rational excludes him from explicitly being a prepper.

He has always taught me to know some basic woods survival, and to keep a bug-out bag.
He and I are of the mind that these things will probably not happen, but it's easy enough to acquire and maintain these skills and supply, they are useful for things not related to shit hitting the fan, and our guns are just cool as fuck, even when they aren't being used for defense.

Weirdly I'm the only one in my family that's stayed left leaning. I grew up in a pretty moderate household and most of my extended family were basically Eisenhower conservatives.

In the last few years they've all pretty much gone full Ted Cruz Tea Party or Rand Paul Lolbertarian while I've been going more left.

I'm still for guns and gun ownership, even though I'm in favor of gun licences similar to how we treat driver's licenses now. (not taking away guns, and background checks in their current state are a waste of time and money, but I do think you should have to pass a basic safety, knowledge, and handling course taught by somebody who knows what the fuck they're talking about before your dumb ass gets a gun.)

Pretty much everybody I'm related to is basically on the verge of going full survivalist living in a compound and stockpiling shit though. I stopped talking politics with them because it's like arguing with a (slightly) less racist /pol/ at this point.

I am often told I am a bit of a slick talker, and I learned early on, that if I try to argue logically with my wife, then I will lose. She just does not accept it.
