A blem lower from PSA or Anderson, a LPK, and a Magpul stock with a USM KAC 600m rearsight and you have a very solid foundation for a good rifle down the road. Should run you all of ~$750.

Ugly barrel and rail. Shit bcg

Mostly referring to the hand-guard and hex mags. And Nordic components barrels are pretty ok, but certainly not premium ultra gucci
>>29641727
what is premium ultra gucci then?
>>29641733
Douglas
>>29641705
Not really
>>29641733
premium ultra gucci would probably be those insanely expensive carbon fiber wrapped barrels that everyone keeps singing out but if you want something practically that really shits out performance then Rainer, DD, KAC, and Noveske all offer really accurate barrels. Anything made by Colt Canada (who I suspect supplies half of the previously mentioned list) is really good.
>>29641727
If that was the only rifle I had to dump money into I would go guccier, but come on mang. Also the hex mags are the shittiest mags I own, fuck those things, they don't load well from clips at all.
I acknowledge there is better than Diamondhead handguards but I wanted weight on this build and that thing is pretty heavy so it fit the bill.
>>29641717
Is it still an ugly barrel?
The BCG looks nice and has never given me problems. It's also semi-gucci due to being rare.
>>29641705
http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=551661892
>>29641658
So did I, on everything but the receivers for the most part.
>four Geissele triggers, 2 CMC's, and a Timney
>3 cut-rifled SS barrels from ultrapremium barrel makers (1 Brux, 1 Bartlein, 1 Krieger) plus 1 button-rifled premium barrel from a premium company (Shilen), plus a Lothar Walther CHF/CMV and a USGI Colt takeoff M4 barrel
>top of the line (if old) handguards on 3 of the rifles (Troy Vtac/Alpha since I got them before shelfmod and memelock were invented)
>mid-to-high-end optics: Leupold Mk4, Strike Eagle, Aimpoint CompM2
>3 premium MD's: SiCo Saker ASR brake, AAC Compact Single Brake, and SFMB; plus a homemade helical brake that works breddy gud and a cheapo
Still have some work to do on them but with the money I've saved with cheap-but-good receivers I can afford to gucci them up.
>>29641777
Nice get. But if you were looking for a heavy rail then DD offers a pretty beefy Quad rail, or you could have gone with the URX by KAC. Also, gucci isnt decided by rare, its a combo of price and performance. Aimpoint is gucci in the red dot world, but they aren't particularly expensive for a lot of their offerings.
>>29641733
For accuracy it would be Kreiger, Brux, Bartlein, Lilja, Lothar Walther, Douglas, or Hart.
For a longevity-driven fighting gun it would be Colt, FN, or Noveske CHF chrome lined.
My first AR, a Sig M400. Thinkin of getting a Colt 6920 next
>>29641830
Why not build one?
>>29641796
Well sir, congrats, you have out-spent me. Though I seriously question the purpose of wasting money on "premium" muzzle devices over bargain basement brakes or A2 flash hiders.
I don't like brakes so I took the ones I had off the rifles and now they all wear A2s. I would blow more money on optics but I don't live with my parents and also have to eat so for the time being budget solutions will suffice.

>"premium" muzzle devices
Some allow for QD of suppressors which can be really important to some people.
>ACOGs are overrated and obsolete, despite everything /arg/ says
Objectively wrong. Name better combat optics with price and performance in mind.
>>29641812
I don't need a quad rail for this build man. Do you even see a front sight on that thing? No?? That's because it's for holding a bipod and nothing else. Also I'm not a fan of having excess parts lying around, and that ~$200 rail had to go somewhere.
I also just hate quad rails in general, they're ugly as sin and needlessly heavy, and I have no use for 48" of railz. Plus this handguard feels great in the hands.
>>29641816
The NC barrel was selected on the advice of a 3-gun forum I used to frequent. It's more accurate than me so that's good enough in my book.
>>29641854
I don't particularly like brakes either, but I do like their recoil reduction and most of my shooting is long(ish) range. For someone who will *never* fight with their rifle a FH is fucking dumb.
I've gotten excellent deals on optics, despite having a street price of over $2500 new I've paid less than $450 for all 3 of them combined.
>got the mk4 because someone thought it was a Mark AR and the front lens cover was glued on
>got the Strike Eagle for $170 on Armslist
>got the CompM2 on Armslist for $45 because the owner thought it was broken (had an ARD that was smashed in, he didn't know it was removable).
>>29641804

>>29641854
Also its really not just /arg/ shilling for ACOGs. Its literally everyone on the internet and SOF community.
>>29641899

>>29641907
>For someone who will *never* fight with their rifle a FH is fucking dumb.
You never know if you may have to fight with your rifle though, dudicle.
>>29641887
Fixed 4x optics are categorically obsolete. People cling to the ACOG because "muh investment" and "muh bombproof optic."
Go to a 3-gun match and see how many people are using fixed power optics. You won't find very many, and the number increases as you go up in level. That's for a reason. 4x simply sucks up close. Mine is going on my 9mm AR because I can't ever imagine having to use that one for any serious purpose whatsoever

>>29641854
I love mine, but I can see where it isn't for everyone.
>>29641981
>>life is only 3 gunning
no but its a pretty good representation of ''gun fighting''
>>29641954
While 3 gun competitions certainly pioneer a lot of combat tactics theres also a lot stuff done there that isnt replicated any other place in the shooting worlds. By that logic SOF and other civilian shooters should be using raced up Infinity 1911's because they perform so well there. Also you do know you can use an ACOG with RMR's on top for sub 50 yard shooting?
And as far as durability goes, I want something that will survive falling off ranges benches, out of truck beds, or deer stands.
>>29641981
Not saying or implying that life is only 3-gunning, but not taking any lessons from the competitive shooting circuit is also an error. 4x is fine for the Army and Marines because most of their firefights consist of sitting in a ditch or on a wall and taking pot shots while they wait for artillery or air support.
News flash though, if you ever get in a serious fight as a civilian there is no fire support coming. You will have to assault the objective, or break contact. That's not so fun when permanently zoomed.

quest why is it you have to put on your NFA iteam the trust name and city and state on it? what happens when i move to a new state? I know with a suppressor when you get to your new address you just mail a form to the ATF.
>>29641934
>both fun guns

I'm considering painting my AR15, should I do it?
>>29642117
Because the ATF is required to be notified if an NFA item is being transporter across state-lines, and if its changing residency (through the owner) then the ATF must be let known.

Technically it doesn't but it's a fuckload simpler and safer than carrying the entirety of the original signed trust (all ~dozen or so pages) with you everywhere, especially if you live in one of the 11 states that requires you to file the original trust with your home county.

I did in the army, and my opinion on it is not new. People love it in the army because it makes zeroing and qualifying easier. But shooting in the army has almost no similarities with shooting as a civilian.
ACOGs are objectively overpriced for what they are. No way around it. You are not going to get blown up with IEDs in the continental US, and if you do, then you should be more concerned with your body than what happens to your optic anyway.

You've posted like several dozen times in this thread without posting AR, and it's starting to wear on your credibility. You're also the only person shamelessly shilling the ACOG and claiming "everyone" thinks the same. For a thread full of typically ACOG-shilling trips, that's rather strange.
What other solution am I offering? There are literally dozens of "solutions" on the market right now that aren't fixed power and are therefore better.
>>29642456

>tl;dr do you even combat doctrine bro
>>29642553
I remember recommending you to call PTR directly about that from a previous thread. I think its about $50 more by doing it that way. I just had to have that top rail and paddle release.

>>29641954
Spoken as someone who never performed MOUT with an acog. Is it harder? Yes. But you can still do it fast. In 3gun, it's about maximum competitive advantage. I wouldn't have a muzzle break on a fighting ar15 because I'm working with fellow shooters inside an enclosed space. My pistol wouldn't have a red dot
The only extendo Id use is maybe the first magazine, the one in my rifle.
Acogs are tough. The only variables that approach that toughness are way too damn heavy.
Pros and cons man. Acog+rmr or os4x+Doctor sight is pretty awesome. If I had the mo ey, that's what I'd use.

Shooting in the Army has no similarities to the military? That's completely depending on how you decide to shoot. Some people shoot drills, some people hunt animals, and some people never leave the firing line or put more than 60 rounds through their rifle at a time while sitting at a bench. There are tons of ways to shoot and quite a few of them parallel shooting in the military. Personally, I enjoy hunting, shooting drills, and just plain old ringing steel at a few hundred meters. For that, the ACOG works a damn sight better than my Aimpoint T-2 did and a lot better than some of the variable magnification scopes that I've used in the past.
I don't think anyone here is going to argue with you that the ACOG is overpriced at MSRP; they're fine optics, but I wouldn't pay the $1600 price tag that Trijicon puts on a lot of their TA31 models. Would I pay the $1200 you can get them at in most places? Hell yeah. If you look around, you can get them cheap. I paid less than $50 on top of the trade for my Aimpoint T-2 when I got this ACOG, which means that I got this optic for less than $800 all together. That's far from overpriced. I'm not going to through it into an IED, you're right, but I didn't buy it for some mythical level of durability. I bought it because I wanted an optic from a company that I know uses top quality glass, has a magnificent illumination solution, and has a company behind it that's noted for good customer service. I got a good deal on a damn good optic and that's why I have it, and you can damn sure bet I would tell others to buy one if they were looking for one as well.
Fake my own death? Are you fucking delusional? My computer was broken for a week so I didn't post on /k/ but instead went over to /g/. QB made a joke and a bunch of retards fell for it, and I found out about two hours into the whole mess and started commenting right afterwards. If you want to bring your military service into this, then just fuck off. I'm not impressed.

>>29643263
Gucci.
>>29642438
Different guy here, but
>what other optic solution are you offering then?
Depending on your price point there's at least a dozen low-power variables with as good or better glass than the ACOG. Some of them are even almost as cheap as the ACOG.
If you want a compact low-mag fixed power scope, there's a handful of other prism scopes across the entire price spectrum, with even the worst having "good enough" glass for a 3.5x or 4x combat-oriented optic and a select few with equal glass quality (or in the case of the Browe, the exact same lenses)
Or if you want more versatility, you could do a mid-power variable with either a stacked or offset MRDS. With the current price of an Aimpoint H1, you can get a 3-12x Viper PST plus QD mount plus H1 plus offset QD mount for less than a TA31, and it will have both better glass and much more versatility.
Or you could poorfag it up and get a Bushnell Elite Tactical 3200 fixed-10x and a PA advanced microdot stacked on a QD PEPR for under $400 and still have a solid setup and good glass.
Don't get me wrong, the ACOG is a wonderful combat optic. My only single complaint on it is the eye relief sucks, which makes shooting prone a little awkward with issued weapons.
>>29642852
>what rifle length is the best?
10.3" for 5.56, 7" for .300blk
No but seriously, depends on what you want to do with it. An 18" rifle-gassed shooter profile barrel will be mild and steady without weighing a ton, and is still short enough that when paired with a collapsible stock you can still into CQB/hoser stages at competitions.
