Anybody know if there are jeans suitable for operatin'? I live in the desert, sweat a lot no matter what kind of physical activity and fell in love with BLM land for shooting, Was just wondering if there were jeans or jean type of pants that dont retain water like a camel and hold up to /out/ type of abuse. Havnt been able to find anything through google.

You probably want a pair of lightweight raw denim jeans. Soft, light, but durable. Also they look great and only get better with age.

Gustin is pretty good for the price
https://www.weargustin.com/store/3317

Studio D Artisan is great but more expensive
http://scout.heddels.com/brands/studio-d-artisan/denim-jeans/studio-d-artisan-d1596-one-wash-raw-denim-jeans

Also Naked and Famous have some light weight stretch ones.

RRREEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Nah, that exists even in active duty. You have both extremes in the infantry. Knew one guy who would build ARs for fun, had a Barret 50. Cal, and a fuckton of other guns and ammo. In that same platoon we had a guy who had zero guns and no real intention of getting any.

Hell, I didn't get my first gun until after I got out of the service.

Let's just hope these people become enlightened

I would base the clothing around the pc. Unless you're squid, the plate carrier probably cost more than your clothes.

I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Priority 1 is carry gear, priority 2 is protecting your vitals. Correct color pairing is a little far down the list.

I have them, and have had them for something like 3 years. Yet to find fault.
>>
>>29632435

But the MSR is a flameless burner, so it's way more tactical. Yes it's maybe not as versatile as a multi fuel stove, but for trips of less than a week or so and so long as you're only having to feed yourself and a battle buddy they are A* class.

Literally the only let down is a lack of piezo.

I use mine innawoods/onnamountain/onnarange all the time. Although pic isn't mine.
>>
>>29636927

The only thing MSR has a leg up over the Jetboil is its way easier to lock the pot onto the burner.

Both are pretty effective in boiling water super fast.
>>
>>29637121

I do have both - a Jetboil Sumo Ti for when I'm in groups/guiding, and a Windburner for when it's just me and a buddy. I like the Windburner's radiant burner for up on mountains, it lights and stays lit in everything I've ever faced.

Yes, but you probably want a belt instead, the FLC has no way of securing itself to the IOTV so it's going to slide around a bit unless you can tighten it down.

Contrary to popular belief, you CAN go prone with your shit loaded like this.

Were you not issued an FLC at CIF?

Why do you need to buy one?

It's all about the team's preference.

My gunner just has a 50 round starter belt, and I'm carrying anywhere from 600 to 1400 rounds, the tripod, and the extra barrels, a PAS-13, a rangefinder, and 7 mags for my primary.

My gunner doesn't trust nutsacks, and if he shoots through his starter belt before I can get to him than I've fucked up, the AG should never be more than 25m to the left of the gunner.

We picked up an ammo bearer recently, I'm interested to see how much he can carry.

As a gun crew, we really have no business using our M4, making people fall down is meat gundam's job, and he excels at it.

If you want a good SAW/ 240 set up look at this example.

What's fucking funny about this is that all the gunners in my weapons squad and the saw gunners in my PLT migrated to a set up like this about 3 months into deployment.

>>29637821
The AG has the mags for his M4. Ours would do two of the 3x low profile shingles and everything other piece of real estate on him was for the gun. Our AG would have 5 mags just of tracers for marking. That's the AG's job is to keep the gun fed and find offerings for the blood God.

Anyone got an opinion on these packs?

I want to get one as a hydration and general "stuff" carrier for this summer because I'm spending the next 2 months in the woods for field work.

Is it as good as their other products/ is it worth it?

I'm kind of skeptical of its usefulness because there's no internal organization pouches or hip belt.

The only real redeeming factor to me is it looks cool and can expand alot.

It's way to small to need a fucking hip belt.you are miss interpreting how small that pack is. If you put enough weight in that pack that you would need a hip belt you are doing it wrong.

I suggest if you are doing wilderness shit and need a backpack with a hip belt that you get something designed for backpacking.

The flatpack is just a jansport schoolbag with compression zippers.

Got a THE pack on sale. Not massive (40L range), but it's expandable and packs down nicely. Very comfy with the frame insert too

Hits the sweet spot between a Jansport and an actual 60L+ ruck. Accepts a hydration bladder of course (amongst other great features)

You could getchu a DMPS AR-10 with 20 round mags, then build a plate carrier or chest rig to magnify your combat effectiveness with your raifu. You'd fit in with anybody if you could reach out and effectively touch some baddies at a klick with your primary weapon.
>>
>>29642291
I've considered doing an AR-10, but the price of the gun is likely a little out of my league right now. Wouldn't sticking with a 5.56 be an easier option simply for ammo/mag/parts commonality, faster follow-up shots, and lighter weight?
Also, I've got tons of 5.56 and AR mags, but literally no .308, so that would be a chunky investment for ammo alone.
>out to a klick
I would never consider myself a good enough shooter to pull that off without missing. Out to 500-600 yards is probably the max I'd push the gun if need-be.

It would, and you can get an AR15 with a 20 inch barrel, bipod, and a 4x32 acog or 3-9x40 scope and be able to reach out to 600 meters easily depending on your ammo, but I get the vibe that you'd like an all around, broad spectrum carbine/rifle. Am I correct?

2.5-10 power scope is what I'm thinking. Pic related, what I might build this summer if I decide to stick with my idea.
>broad-spectrum carbine/rifle
Sort of. I've been through several different kinds of rifles, calibres, and lengths, and through experimenting with range time and dry-fire practice clearing rooms that I'm perfectly fine with a 2.5 power on the low-end, and that I have no use for an SBR or carbine. I actually find it harder to shoot with the 1 power versus the 2.5 power within 50 yards. The liklihood of me having to clear rooms is extremely low, and its not like I wouldn't be carrying a sidearm anyway in such a circumstance. Might consider building a 10.5" upper just for such a thing.
I find the DMR type stuff suits me best. Not big on shooting close-in nor on precision long-range. Mid-range, sitting to the rear, suits me best.

I can dig it, and I can appreciate that you've already got yourself a solid philosophy of use and you're not trying to add a bunch of bullshit to your rifle that you don't need. I would say a build like your pic related would be a solid start and maybe adding a picatinny folding bipod to perfect your DMR role and weapon. Once that's done, if you're not looking for armor carrying, a chest rig would be your best bet to platform off of for scouty/reece activities.

Gunstruction doesn't have Atlas bipods or anything simple, so I didn't include it.

I recommend this as well. I've had mine since Afghan 2005. It was once run over by a 7 ton, and once run over by a tank. >A2 is too long
I'm 6'3" with ape-arms. The most comfortable ARs I've ever held had A2 stocks. Not a fan of collapsible stocks anyway to be honest. I always keep them at full-length. The Tavor and FAMAS have lengths of pull longer than an A2 and I find them to fit me very nicely.
>18" still has exceptional ballistics [and] looks better
You aren't wrong, but I've thought about it a fair bit (not to sound like a dick). To make a long story short (including several factors), if I'm going longer than the 16" I currently own, its going to be a 20".
If I do find the extra two inches not worth it, I could just have it cut down anyway.
>>
>>29643235

I would definitely and infinitely advise looking at better quality rigs than the USGI Fighting Load Carrier or Tactical Assault Panel System (both of which I have been issued and used) since they are complete and total garbage. Regardless of who you go with, manufacturer wise, I would definitely advise a rig with MOLLE webbing so you can customize your rig to you and you alone. Also would not recommend snakememe camo. Amd once you've perfected your chest rig based off of your individual needs, train with it, then train with it, then after that, train with it some more. And once you think you've finally mastered your rig, train with it even more.

Pic related is my kit, am considering attaching one more stacker 2 rifle mag pouch that I have 3 available of.

yeah then it looks fine to me. my radio is set up similarly. i just don't use a lapel mic. I'm going to get a PTT and a headset eventually.

you should look into general purpose pouches then. if you can get a single blue force gear ten speed mag you could use that it would stretch and hold your radio. im sure anyflapped single mag pouch would hold it.

Yea we can have gear but getting guns is hardish.
I already found a bouch i like by Zentrauron. Pic related. It should fit the radio just right.
I might copt it some time soon.

>>
>>29649847
i'm not an expert in any way but that's a bad idea unless you have a dedicated battle buddie. Wearing a radio on your back makes it impossible for you to fuck with it without taking off your plate carrier and putting shit on your back makes it inconvenient to wear a pack or rucksack.

the kinds of people you see with radios or other shit molled directly on their back are usually operating with a team and not going very far. usually they are entry teams and need the front of their gear for other shit or their big ass milspec radios are too big and have to be mounted back there.

with a small hand held like a baofeng or Motorola it's pointless to move them to your back.
>>
>>29649847
It complicates things by requiring a remote for changing channels and setting now. You also have trouble accessing it to change batteries.

A lot of people will put the radios on their front and then run a remote antenna on their backs. Some people will run flexible antennas across their backs (if you ever see a soldier with a bunch of clear tubing all over the back of his MOLLE, that is what that is). The most powerful solution is to keep using a whip antenna, either folded in to the shoulder or on a remote on the back.

Are Team Wendy CAM-FIT Chinstrap Retention System worth the dosh

Any recommendations for an MSA tc 2000 Helmet Liner and chin straps? My issued ones are fucking pretty caked in grime and shit of the day.
>>
>>29651817
I like Ops Core. I know some people who got the full helmet liner setup and it was really nice. You could leave it unbuckled and turn your head over and it wouldn't fall off. I just got the replacement straps and a set of GI pads and think it held up really well. They are a 10/10 improvement over GI straps, especially if you're using NODs.
>>
>>29651817
TW Cam-Fit is absolutely worth the money compared to my Ops-Core liner.

The OC system uses a plastic headband instead of an insulated aluminum cable loke on the TW system.

The TW chin-cup does feel a little bigger than the OC chin-cup, this helps stabilize your helmet and suck it down onto your head more.

>>29651859
The Dial-Liner kit is a massive improvement over the GI system, but the TW system is a little easier to install.

since i'm cheap, i took my regular GI straps, and got rid of the H thing and crossed the back straps making it into a pseudo X nape, it's decently comfortable and works amazing with nods

>>29652063
Whatever works for you. I like the upgraded straps because the adjustment buckles don't shift at all, and that was a huge annoyance for me with the GI straps.

If you're .mil, I'll mention that we used those same IR strobes, but had a wide Velcro strip on the helmets and then put a wide strip over our strobes to kind of sandwich them in there. Really kept them secure.

Those issued lights always bugged the shit out of me. I ended up just going with a cheapo headlamp with the band tied down with 550 through the helmet screws. I found it didn't get caught in shit and was just as useful for white/red light. Never had much use for the IR feature.

No I'm talking "vintage" WWII surplus or issued gear I find on eBay. M41 jackets, M37 shirt and trousers, HBT shirt and trousers, etc. I like the way it looks much better than modern tactical gear and the shirts/jackets go pretty well with jeans.

nobody denies that. but one of these patterns is from the 90's and one from 2008. guess which.
>>
>>29652515
Believing this picture. This is either a troll or somebody too stupid to change out their socks and/or air their feet out. No boot is in an of itself responsible for that soggy tenchfoot mess.

I know a high speed tacticool operator who had never deployed. He thought he was hot shit because while us plebs were on deployment, he was getting badass shooting classes. We all went to JRTC and by the end of it, he was a near crippled mess because he didn't take care of his feet (I guess they don't teach that in the carbine courses). Moral of the story is that you have to take care of yourself.

Any decently made boot will work. Put aside the fanboy arguing and remember to find a good fit, wear good socks, change the socks out as needed, and to air out your feet by taking off the boots and wearing flip flops if possible at a camp site.
>>
>>29652579
I remember some people drooling over it, and i'm drooling over digi flora.
No matter how much people butthurt or give facts about it, it won't change my opinion. Besides why can't people accept variety? Olive drab, woodland, multicam mix is pretty boring
>>
I'm looking for a "tactical" pack. Lots of pouches, molle loops, hydration pack insert, etc.

How is Condor? Any other brands/models I should be aware of?
>>
>>29652860
For a outdoors daypack, some decently proofed offering from a camping store will do you just fine.

For a light daypack, a military oriented camebak like a LOAD or MULE will work.

If you want a full on 3-day pack, nothing wrong with the GI pack. Tactical Tailor and LBT also make good day packs.

The thing about packs is that you really shouldn't be buying the in order to strap a bunch of pouches a shit to the exterior. If you know ahead of time you're going to be putting that much stuff in a pack, just size up and buy a bigger pack.

My advice is to not go looking for stuff to put into a pouch that you have but to make sure you have everything you need without a bunch of extra weight.

That being said, I suggest you get a compass and put it on a tether and stick it in a pouch. My baofeng UV5R also fits in mine but not with extended battery.

You can also fit 2 H&H compressed gauze and a SWATT tourniquet in one if you really squeeze that shit in there. Just dont use SWATT as your only tourniquet.
>>

reference as in common patterns. No one wears that shit.

what's the most practical way to transport your gear around to where you go to shoot?
armor, helmet, guns and ammo are bulky as hell and I end up loading like 5 or 6 duffel bags into my car to go shooting. just wondering if there's a better way, maybe one big bag or box that you can just store everything to grab and go
>>
>>29659650
Tac gear in a sturdy plastic storage box or duffle, guns in their cases, ammo in surplus .30 cans.

I need to get me some pelicans for my gear and favorite guns... But I can buy so much ammo and more guns instead. Tis a dilemma.
>>
>>29659209
recently did a test on the AR500 armor, hit it a couple times with some 556, the spalling is REALLY bad, the coating is pretty meh

considering my work sells ceramic plates at 140/ea, id rather buy those and save the weight (and i buy em at just above cost so bam)
>>
>>29660049
Any decent steel plates out there that's don't have awful spalling issues? Ceramic plates are very much one and done and seem to break easily. Also, what is a good budget plate carrier?
>>
>>29660049
Spawling is only bad after 5+ rounds. At that point any ceramic plates would have already become dust.

life isn't worth a $60 difference between steel and ceramic.
