So I understand if I want to add a detachable bottom metal to my remington 700 I need to have the stock inletted. My question is, can I use the magpul detachable bottom metal? What makes it different from other dbm?

style plus enlarged ambi release tab

But could I use it if I have the stock inletted?

Just buy a magpul 700 stock and DBM setup

I would, but I'm currently on a budget, and can only afford the bottom metal and a few mags right now.

Firstly, having the stock inletted would almost certainly cost you more than a complete, new Magpul Hunter stock.

Second, it's doubtful that everything would line up correctly and be secured correctly (height, torque, alignment) with your screws.

But couldn't I inlet the stock myself with my dremel?

Seekins or Badger M5 DBM.

getting your stock inlet well (aka not just using your dremel) costs as much as, or more than, a Hunter stock.

you risk damaging where your pillars sit in your stock. the bottom metal should be bedded eventually, but while i'd feel comfortable bedding the action to the stock even with just a dremel, pillars and bottom metal are in my opinion something better left to the pros.

i gave up and bought a secondhand AICS 1.5

shouldn't have bought a remington brand money sink.

Magpul stock - $279
CNC Inletting - Around $95
I should know. My business does it.

I put a badger ordnance DBM on my 700P. Inletted it myself with a dremel very slowly and it came out awesome.
