In a single optic like a red dot or magnified scope you have TWO knobs, one for elevation (up, down) and one for windage (left, right)

With iron sights like those on a standard M-16 or an AR using military iron sights the front sight post is like a screw with a locking mechanism, you move it up or down for elevation and the rear sight moves left and right for windage.

Irons ARE less accurate than a good optic, but you can hit reliably out to 300 yards on irons alone.

Can anyone identify my scope problem, as I turn the elevation turret to a higher elevation I can hear it ratcheting, but when I'm turning it downwards it is still slightly ratcheting but is smoother like it is stripped on the inside.
Is scope fucked?
