I did a lot of research on best gun for home defense and came to the conclusion of 15+1 rounds of .45ACP

I considered a wide variety of factors

Does /k/ agree? It's my only gun at the moment

Got the red dot and silencer but honestly prefer the gun without the red dot / silencer

Do like the weapon light though
>>
make sure it don't squish
>>
>>29479968
They're good guns, and you can run .45 super through them. But the best gun will always be the one you're good with

>inb4 squishy squishy
>>
>>29479968
solid choices all around.
>>
>>29479968
Good choice.
And you didn't grab a shit poorfag light.
10/10 op. That gun will serve you well.
>>
>>29479994
>>29479980
I actually read about the squishy thing

Mine is 100% firm but I would never hear it up to test it out, as heat can irreversibly change the properties of a polymer
>>
>>29479980
>>29480024
Has anyone been able to replicate the squishy?

Think I read about someone who boiled theirs and it permanently deformed

But if you ask me who the hell boils a $1200 pistol in the first place? These guns we own aren't indestructible (except Glocks maybe)

We need to care for our guns
>>
Does anyone know if the FNS also suffers from squishy squishy disease?

Don't tempt me anon
>>
>>29480140
Squishy was an anomaly in the first place, but the answer would also be no because the FNS, being striker fired, does not require any mechanisms in the grip (besides mag release I guess). It's engineered differently and, consequently, is even sturdier than the FNX

Been think about getting a optic capable pistol in .45 but can't justify the $1k+ expense of a FN-X and I can't get a suppressor in my state. For that reason pretty sure I'm gonna buy pic related Sar k2.

The FNX45 doesn't squish, in that ONE video he left it in hot direct sunlight for more than 24 hours.

FN saw it themselves, took his model and replaced it, replicated it and fixed the plastic, fuck off

You could put 15+1 rounds on target faster with a 9mm than a .45

You could also fit about 20 rounds into that magwell. 23 with that tumorous base plate. The slide cut, sights and threaded barrel are great but the capacity which is the only anyone ever mentions isn't impressive at all

That FNX 45 was out of my price range, so I got this instead. 13+1. It also doesn't have any safeties on it and naked hands feel a bit better on it.
I would have gotten the FNX though if I didn't have a bill coming in recently that fucked me up.

Great guns.
>>
any thoughts on fnx45 vs fnx45 tac?
>about $4-500 price difference
>i dont plan on using a can
>i have an rmr i'd like to use it n the tac
>tac model is cooler
>>
>>29479968

That's also my current plan although I don't own an FNX45 yet. If 15 rounds of .45 ACP don't stop the threat it's time to break out the 590A1. If 9 rounds of 00 buck don't stop the threat it's time to start praying.

>>
>>29480282
I think it depends on your home. If you want to just bunker down in one room then I guess a rifle is fine.

If you want to check around the house, or if you are waking up to it, you may want to use a handgun. If you have a lot of small rooms, and tight hallways, a long gun may be a bad idea. With a pistol you can open doors, work a light/laser one handed. Either way, having something is better than nothing.
>>
>.45ACP
nah.
>>
>>29485936
just buy the 45
there's no reason to get the tac if you're not going to run a can. just have the slide milled out for an RMR
the point of the tac is to have a gucci $2k suppressor platform
>>
>>29482417
Lol all the fnp line had unsupported barrels till they fixed it
>>
Hopefully when it gets confiscated after u use it by a corrupt police force it isnt lost or missing parts.

u guys need to be more practical
>>
Surprises me how many people insist on a rifle for home defense

Seriously round a tight corner in your home, much easier with a pistol

Even more surprising is people who would use a shotgun. Enjoy your 5 shots with pump stroke jams in between

>>29480208
It's too late, it's already begun to rust
>>
>>29490644
Im more concerned about over penetration
>>
>>29490697
.45acp has horrible penetration, a standard 230gr round is barely going 800fps.

Which is why it's good for home defense.
>>
>>29479968
Ya dun gud, OP. the FN .45s are one of the best fighting pistols on the planet. Nothing to make you feel warm and fuzzy at night like a quality double stack pistol on your nightstand.

you're supposed to make a thread when you do this, you'll get more (You)s
>>
>>29482715
People always say that, but I notice no difference is shoot ability between the common calibers. I think this is only an issue for manlets.
>>
>>29491064
Please stop repeating this meme. A 230gr FMJ will go like 25-30" and hollow points go about 12-18", just like all other calibers. And in the Box O' Truth's tests, the 230 FMJ deflected the least out of 9mm, .40 and .45 when going through auto glass. What is not going to stray off course when hitting bone: a 230gr bullet or a 124-147gr bullet? Think hard, homo.

Oh, and standard hollow points in .45 nowadays are going anywhere from 900-1150 fps, depending on bullet weight. Please stop the ".45 is slow" meme."

>>29491159
penetration != deflection. .45 will be stopped by a hard, non-brittle target before 9mm and .40, because it's slow. of course that isn't relevant in your typical drywall shed.
>>
>>29491159
>>29491159
.45acp does have horrible penetration but it's not necessarily a bad thing

The frontal area is much higher than 9mm, the velocity is much lower.

Which penetrates a wall deeper? A mouse shot out of a cannon at 10,000mph or an elephant shot out of a cannon at 5,000mph?

They both damage the wall, the elephant actually does a lot more damage, but the mouse penetrates deeper.
>>
>>29490644
>>29490697

.556 is a light round that tumbles on impact. They make cartridges that are designed not to overpenetrate by fragmenting. They can have lower inertia and penetration than pistol rounds.

Nothing beats a pistol against someone who has hands on you. Put it against your gut and fire away.

But carbines are much easier to shoot. I wouldn't count on a woman without practice under stress being able to hit shit with a pistol, and definitely not a child. And would you shoot past your family or friends with a pistol?

Wear a sling for retention. If you are in close quarters, clamp the stock under your armpit. If you need to use the sights for long hallways, put the stock over your shoulder. Kick, muzzle, or buttstock the fucker if he gets the jump on you.

There's a reason world class CQB and hostage rescue teams use carbines and not pistols
>>
>>29491222
Dif anon here, I can see some of your points, but I can say for certain that I wouldn't even try shooting past loved ones in any situation. Home defense is a somewhat different scenario than being on a swat team and clearing rooms with 5 other guys behind you, so the needs of a hostage team and a home owner are going to be different. Shooting quickly at point blank from retention would be very important to me, as would having a free hand to open doors or to grab a small child to move it out of harms way. Obviously a rifle is a better fighting implement, but I'd argue that specifically for defending yourself in your own house that a handgun would be a better option

>as would having a free hand to open doors or to grab a small child to move it out of harms way

Oh yeah forgot about this. Opinions are fine and everything, but I hear this a lot. You don't need to hold a carbine or even a rifle with two hands. A pistol does not manage recoil and trigger pull with weight, and it does not have a stock or a sling for support and points of contact.
>>
>>29491330
>Home defense is a somewhat different scenario than being on a swat team and clearing rooms with 5 other guys behind you, so the needs of a hostage team and a home owner are going to be different.

A swat team has considerations you don't have. But you don't have considerations a swat team doesn't have.

>Obviously a rifle is a better fighting implement, but I'd argue that specifically for defending yourself in your own house that a handgun would be a better option

Defending yourself in your own house isn't fighting?

Would you feel more confident if your intruder had a rifle and you had a pistol?

Would you feel less confident if he dropped his rifle and drew a pistol?

Can an Fnx45 shoot .45 super?

Or is it bad for the gun?

Considering getting a .45 that can handle .45 super
>>
>>29492258
The XD,XDM and XDs will and thats according to Springfield themselves. Both glocks and XDS are used for .460 conversions.HK USPs and Mk23s will eat it just fine.Just Google FNX chamber support and find out
>>
>>29480140
The FNS has a reinforced lip around the magwell, the polymer is thicker around the opening where the mags insert. The FNX's I've fingered seemed to have pretty thin walls but not as thin as the glocks (compared because they are the standard).

I have an FNS and love it. For the price you can't go wrong and I bet it'll be your new favorite poly striker gun. The FNX is awesome too, probably one of the best .45s feature/capacity wise. The 9 was the one that had squishy issues (supposedly due to a bad batch of polymer)
