Way to guard that Rhino!

good job!

seriously though, when is somebody just going to start cloning the fuck out of that thing and reintroduce them to the African wilderness.

we've been cloning bulls for years (bull riding), cloning a rhino shouldn't even be a challenge.

both of them definitely respect that rhino and are fully aware that it could kill them if it chose to.

.308 was the main export caliber of the West during the Cold War.

Slav allies got AKs and supplies of 7.62x39mm.

Western allies got G3s/FALs and supplies of 7.63x51mm.

Wasn't there some serious discussion about cloning and growing extremely endagered species in the States and just letting the real ones die from Africa?
>>
>>29468749
if there was, the only decent ethical argument would involve the introduction of a non-indigent species to a new environment (see pigs, pythons, cane toads, and rabbits). plus this would be an extremely effective means of reviving the white rhino population (especially since that one specimen in the pic is the last of it's kind).
plus the cattle industry has been employing cloning for various purposes since they cloned the sheep.

As for the rodeo, no animals are harmed any worse than they are out on the range (barring accidents involving cantankerous bulls). the individual events in the rodeo are all based directly upon the tasks required of those who manage the herds (usually called cowboys).

Its a free public range 20 minutes from where I live where you can shoot anything you want (minus tannetite and 50BMG) with no range officers and rarely any people. Hate on it all you want, but I had a ton of fun shooting shaken up ginger ale cans on the second and third berm. The benches are higher than the range so at 25 or 150 yards you are still shooting down into the berm.

>why the g3 is so widespread in Africa?
It's cheap to buy. All their hand-me-down Commonwealth L1A1s are finally worn out but only Brazil makes FALs anymore, however Turkey and Pakistan crank out G3s for pennies, and Northern Europe is dropping 7.62x51 for 5.56x45 so there's lots of surplus G3s available. If they want to stay REAL FUCKIN' NATO they have to go with the cheapest option, since they can't afford large numbers of SCARs or 417s.

The point of BRs is that their larger caliber rounds are ballistically superior in every way (power, range, speed, and accuracy) than the rounds commonly used in modern assault rifles.

>>
>>29469960
The .308 is way more powerful. You don't see people going elk or bear hunting with the old Soviet round, as a general thing.
>>
>>29469942
The fluted chamber just puts a few lines on the case; they're just cosmetic damage. The lip of the ejection port dents the fuck out of the hot case wall as it ejects; that's where the real problem comes from.

The port buffer is a chunk of rubber riveted to a metal shell that clamps over the top of the receiver. You can see one in pic related, and on >>29468042

/Googles the stats

7.62x39 = 35.6 grains case capacity driving a 123 grain bullet

.308 = 56 grains case capacity driving a 150-180-grain bullet

They're in different leagues.
>>
>>29469960
7.62x51 is a full size round, comparable to old bolt action rifles.

7.62x39 is an intermediate round. Much more comparable to 5.56 or 5.45

It's an assault rifle round vs a full power round. The 7.62NATO has a much further effective range owing to it's flatter trajectory and higher velocity. The downside being that it's heaver, bigger, and harder to fire rapidly. Basically the battle rifle vs assault rifle argument that's existing from the beginning.
>>
>>29469960
night and day, 7.62×39 is a intermediate which behaves like a slightly milder 30-30 while 7.62 NATO/.308 is a full power rifle cartridge designed to replicate garand food 30-06's performance in a smaller package

Not a problem senpai, left handed operation of the rifle with supporting right hand on the charging handle is not a problem, in reality it feels like it's more on top than the left side so you aren't even doing any reaching even with the rifle shouldered and pointing straight downrange.
I think the HK slap is even better with lefty stance.

But then again I'm a guy who thinks that lefties have an advantage on kalashnikov ergos.

Safety is pretty meh even with right hand on grip, I hear it's meant ton operated on the supporting hand and not with thumb. Lefties hand reach over the gun with right hand or break grip hold and use index finger.
Conversions to lefty safety are available as even Germans did it to their soldiers.

Some of the grooved grips are right handed and even those don't feel bad on the left palm but when you switch to right hand it feels right.
Again you can change grips how you like.

Jambo /k/, my name is Chad Jomo-Grorno.

I'm a 27 year old American Bruddah (African Enthusiast). I draw poverty and disease on my tablet and spend my days not eating and experiencing health defects (diarrhea, starvation AIDS).

I train with my sharpened twig every day, this superior weapon can shoot straight through a wet tissue because it kicks ass, and is vastly superior to any weapon on earth. I earned my twig license two years ago, and I have been getting better every day.

I speak Swahili fluently, both the hibbity and the bibbity accents, and I write fluently as well. I know everything about African history and their complete disregard for civilized life, which I follow 100%.

When I get my African visa I am moving to the Republic oif the congo not to attend a prestigious high school and learn more about their magnificent culture. I hope I can become a dirty water collector or a diseased ridden youth.

I own several loin cloths which I wear around town . I want to get used to wearing them before I move to Africa so I can fit in easier. I have unprotected intercourse with my elders and seniors and speak Swahili as often as I can, but barely does anyone manage to respond.

Wish me luck in Africa!

Thing is I want a new stock and hand guard before it gets in (the stock stuff looks horrendous, but it's the only model with the barrel I want and the welded rail).

The stock is no biggie, but with the short cocking tube, what do I need to look for to make sure I get one that fits? I would prefer wood furniture if that matters.

It only applies to the slim plastic ones, and in the US those are very uncommon in 33 length. Wood ones are GTG even on heavy-barrelled PTRs, as are the wide forearms in 33-length.

Rarely. PTR bought most of it a couple years ago. Your best bet is Ebay or Gunbroker, or find somebody that will ship from the EU.

It's made by a company called CCOP.
Same OEM as the 1-6x PA, Millet, and probably Vortex has as they're all Chinese factory tubes. Pretty good glass on it considering it was < $200.
Mine came with Millet flip caps.
There certainly are better scopes out there that give better clarity and quality, but I quite like this one for the price.

All still manufacture the G3 family. Nigeria and Saudi Arabia may have slowed to a trickle but they still manufacture alot of parts.

The FAL is only produced by
>Brazil
>USA
>Argentina - slowed to a trickle - mostly producing just parts

G3's are just flat out easier and cheaper to
produce, and G3 production = HK33/MP5/etc production

>>29469778
I wouldn't touch a turk .223 HK or .308 HK - Century C93's are usually g2g and at worst need a little gunsmith love and some parts from HK parts - overall much cheaper
And Turk HK .308's, while decent, do not hold a candle to PTR-91's.

Hold out until he turk's start importing semi auto G41's if you can (Modernized HK33 that for some unknown reason lost out to the inferior G36)
G41 features:
-Bolt Hold open device
-Forward Assist
-Dust cover
-Port Buffer (shell deflector) integrated into front of forward assist assembly
-1:7 twist barrel
-uses AR mags
-folding carry handle
-Better, easier to reach mag release (no paddle mag release) because AR mags

Turkey is the only country in the world producing the G41
>>
>>29469942
>fluted chamber problem
It's called a tumbler - cleans it right the fuck up

>>29469878
>Dents
The reason why G3 brass has a shorter lifespan is because on ejection the brass hits the back of the ejection port - denting the brass.
Dented brass in this fashion can be reloaded but you are realistically looking at 2-3 less reloads per case (good cases, with proper trimming can usually last around 10 reloads anyway so it's not a super huge issue).
Port buffer or German brass deflector

Now guys I have an issue - I have a newer PTR-91 with Paddle mag release and the welded top rail (because fuck claw mounts).
Port buffers cannot be mounted onto welded top rails - unless they are cut up and welded onto the reciever (not about to weld a port buffer on my shit when on some guns they can knock brass back into the action)

My main goal for wanting a buffer is so my brass doesn't fly all over the place, isn't a range hazard, and stays close to me so I don't have to scour a range for my brass, and for the extra life it offers my brass.
That leaves me with only 2 apparent options -

1: Rail mounted brass catcher
or
2: Late issue German style welded on brass deflector - can stick on thin rubber padding to the inside of the deflector

Is there any other way for us guys with welded top rail PTR's?
Are the plastic port buffers made anymore - it seems like that would be an easy mod to work

If you're not able to afford a FAL, you prob can't really afford 308. The cheaper made g3 is far from the zenith of battle rifles.

>>29471161
Having shot enough HK's and PTR's from either shoulder:
It won't be bad if you just tilt the rifle sideways and ratchet it with your right hand to charge.
Locking it open is another story, and you better have the right arm strength to open those rollers so you have to be manhandling it.

Getting an extended (read HK11) charging handle is a fucking must for you.
And don't even consider buying a G3 style unless it has the paddle mag - the button release blows even for right handers - so that leaves you with retrofitting an older HK/PTR with a tac latch or buying a brand new welded rail paddle mag PTR (I have one it's fucking great - paddle all the way)

Aside from that an ambi selector, but they are easy to find.
>>
>>29471473
That's actually an incredibly good idea - lefties could attach a ratchet strap to that also.
Just be advised if you've never handled one without the plastic - they are fucking sharp and can cut you up - wrap tape around that shit

I own both - a full sized PTR-91 with welded top rail, and a Imbel 16" Para
Believe me I by no means think the G3 is better. Economies of scale is much less for the G3 series which is why it will continue to be produced and fielded

The FAL is more ergonomic and infinitely superior in carbine form and as a suppressor host, and optics mounts are a no brainer.
The G-3's strength is as a full sized rifle and as a DMR - those who cannot get a welded top rail have to get a B&T

Both use HK tooling so it's a crapshoot. PTR-91's now have all the features you would want out of the box (except a brass deflector/port buffer).
The turk guns are too expensive, for that kind of money I might as well push a little further for an HK91
