What are historic guns like as an investment?
Say a genuine Nazi Luger with SS markings or something.
Most don't gain value.
Full autos are decent but take decades to be worthwhile to sell. Even then something could change which makes them worthless. Things like opening the registry or a total ban would wipe out value.
Unique historic guns are expensive as fuck and take decades to be worth selling. Your run of the mill German Luger with matching numbers, wooden mag, holster, bring back papers, etc are only going to be worth money if they were taken from someone noteworthy.
You can buy a bunch of AR lowers for $50 a piece and bet on an AWB that allows transfers on grandfathered guns, but that is a long shot. Could net you 400%, but also you could end up with 100 non-transferrable lowers.

A Nazi German Luger pistol with all parts matching, in good, original condition, can go for over $2000
The U.S Army trials .45ACP Luger pistol that still exists, like in your picture, has been valued at $1 000 000

Buying guns as an investment kinda feels wrong for me.
Guns are something to hoard, never sell, and love forever.

Collectors are willing to pay good money for a weapon with matching parts in good condition. That said it's a small market. I'd rather invest in gold or whatever.
>a genuine Nazi Luger with SS markings
is worth less then for example a pre-WW1 Marine Luger. Also not everyone is a naziboo, so that also can decrease the price.

Pretty much everyone knows about Lugers though, don't they?
Even the most hard-boiled soccer mom will understand the significance of a Nazi Luger, right?

No, these sorts of people will rather bring a Nazi Luger to a gun buy back for a 50$-Walmart gift coupon.

I don't mean as potential buyers, just that they'd understand the significance.

The man wasn't using hyperbole when he said they'd literally turn them in for 50$ in walmart coupons.

Well, most soccermoms will see Lugers (and MP40s) as 'Nazi Guns' (thanks Hollywood). You can call this significance. This doesn't mean they can recognize the guns potential worth.
