Head injuries are quite dangerous, but not necessarily fatal. Recovery from catastrophic brain damage is entirely possible, as long as you can be kept alive long enough to heal.

It takes time, though. You won't be "absolutely fine" unless you're a reptilian like pastor Tim here.

The human body is a funny thing. You could get killed by a single shot from a dinky .22, or you could get fucked on full-auto with an AK and get to die of old age.

I am half convinced modern medicine uses some sort of magic. I had to have a central line placed for chemo. Central lines for anyone who dosnt know are a tube that goes from outside your body to sitting right above your heart. Anyhow they went in my jugular and somehow got this little tube all the way to my heart. Modern medecine is amazing.

The difference with Phineas is that the rod was not a high velocity projectile. Bullets tend to create expanding cavity wounds, plus the damage caused by the bullet rotation.
