Is this defective? How much of a gap should a handgun have between the slide & frame?
Also never buy a gun online if its from a shop in Louisiana, Florida, or one of those other sweaty balls states. They come pre-rusted because they don't store them properly. I may be able to talk the sales retard into a return/exchange just based on that.
Pls respond

Don't fire that, OP. The slide could literally fly off the frame and come back into your face. The gap is a sign of increased wear and defectivity.
>>29209103
no it isnt
Before selling my M&P I did see that gap before. I've read up on the M&P forums and found out that it's normal.
>>29208955
It's dumb, but normal.
>>29208955
I had an FNS with the gap problem last fall. I sent it back to FN and they refunded my money, said I was lucky I didn't blow my hand off. I'm still not sure why they didn't just replace the gun. I used the money to buy a Glock.
>>29208955
This is called slide peening. Google it. Scary stuff.
>>29209122
Yep. I saw the gap and immediately thought "M&P". It's fine OP, you bought yourself a fine gun. My roommate has one and loves it.
My FNX has the slide peening problem. Literally never had a problem, aside from an unusually high amount of fire spraying out from under the slide onto my hand. I just wear gloves when firing it.
>>29208955
Anything under 2" is an acceptable peen.
>>29209136
>>29209173
Are you guys bullshitting me? I can't tell if this is trolling.
>>29208955
I've never seen it that bad. I would call up the manufacturer about getting an RMA done PRONTO. That thing is a ticking time bomb.
>>29209245
What gun is it? It looks like an M&P. If it is it's fine they all look like that. If not slide peening is a thing, so stop shooting it.
>>29208955
>>29209088
Should have bought a glock.
>>29209274
Appears to be a Glock brand glock.
>>29209157
I have a M&P shield and I can confirm, the gap is so big that I can see the next round in my magazine
Yeah, I know a guy with an M&P, it alarmed the hell out of me, but apparently is normal.
It's fine OP
>>29208955
All FAMAS have that feature it's fine OP.
>>29209274
FNS
The light coming through is exaggerating it but it's still quite noticeable.
I'm going to visit a few shops and compare it to others, if it's an issue I'll contact the manufacturer and try to swap it or just sell it & buy a new one.
>>29209385
If you wear some gloves you'll be fine.
Jesus dude, I've dealt with enough fucking aspies today.
>>29209385
>>29209136
FWIW, Palmetto and everyone else seem to have the FNS 9mm on clearance/closeout right now...
>>29209433
Palmetto has the FNS 9. And it's being closed out because they're discontinuing it due to the slide gap problem.
probably safe. I wouldn't like it because of all the grime and shit that get in the frame but w/e my G19 has a slight gap too.
>>29209433
They're dropping the .40s&w ones, everyone is and that's every brand. Won't even be a caliber pretty soon.
The 9's have never been on sale except the shitty 2 tone ones. They've always ran $100 less than a gloock.
>>29209448
wot.
Do you actually have a source for that or are you just being retarded?
>>29209611
Sorry, typo. I meant "Palmetto has the FNS 40."
>>29209628
But do you have a source on the FNS40 being discontinued?
>>29209330
Differen't anon, but here's a pic.
Put on a plastic face mask at the range and run 350 through it to be sure though.
>>29209641
It's not being discontinued, FN is still gunning for police contracts plus the 9/40 conversion kit is one of their selling points. .40 is just being dropped by a lot of stores because it doesn't sell well except in more popular brands.
>>29209733
It's just more expensive 9mil with a little bit more recoil.
I can see it for police work, kinda, but .357 sig should win out for LEOs, mil, secfor.
>>29209755
It's typically 5 less rounds. I'd rather have the ability to shoot 5 more fuckers twice, 2 holes of 9mm does more damage than one of .40 plus double the chance to hit a vital.
How retarded would it be to hammer the slide or bend the frame? What typically causes the issue, bent slide or frame?
Also apparently the issue is normal, I compared some images. The pic I took makes it look 3x worse because of the way the light comes through, but it still pisses me off I don't want dirt to get in.
>>29209245
It probably is. Go somewhere else if you are actually worried and want real answers.
>>29209245
It's bullshit. That gap is common on polymer striker fired guns, although OP's pic is a bit extreme.
>>29209811
To modify the frame? Very retarded. Take it to a gunsmith to look over if you're genuinely worried, you don't want to break or bend the rails and permanently have it failure to battery.
>>29209881
On the subject of dirt, I wouldn't be worried. My M&P has sweat, lint, the occasional hair around it constantly, just take a can of dustoff to it every once in a while.
Oh my god you idiots are retarded. The slide is locked into the barrel. It doesn't fucking matter how much gap is between the frame and the slide.
Jesus fucking christ.
