Here is how to efficiently kill people with the K-BAR:

Warning this video might not be for sensitive people. It is not graphic or anything but Mike explains things really too well...

I've actually been thinking lately about picking up a KA-BAR.

Is the KA-BAR brand KA-BAR the best, or are there better ones?
>>
>>28923417
Camillus comes pretty damn close, but most examples you'll find will be pretty beat up by now; Ontario makes one (that I'm fairly certain has a NATO nsn too) that isn't too bad, but seems pretty rough around the edges by comparison. If you want the most consistently good all-around product available I would go with the Kabar branded ones myself.

Also, would you prefer leather or synthetic?
>>
>>28923548
I haven't decided yet, but I like the look of leather better so I'm leaning towards leather.
>>
>>28922983
Big Boss.
>>
>>28923598
get the kabar d2 steel/kraton handle
best kabar will last the longest
kraton handle will never shrink and get loose
>>
>>28924139
Maybe I just don't know enough about knives, but
>paying $175 for a knife with a serrated blade
seems like an unwise purchase
>>
>>28924266
101 on amazon
if you're one of the 'combo edge is useless, serrations are for plebs' autists, then please ignore my posts
it is by far the best traditional design kabar
>>
>>28922983
Y'know I really like Mike but he's isn't organized enough when he's making his videos. Good guy though.

Is it true what he said about why the Ka Bar has that dip in it next to the handle?
>>
>>28924324
Like I said, I don't actually know a lot about knives... but it seems like serrations would make it somewhat difficult to sharpen in the event you'd ever want to do that.

Am I wrong?

I'm a bit of a poorfag, so if I'm going to drop that much on a knife, I want to be sure it's going to hold up awhile.

Kabar is gud
>>
>>28923011
I want this for no particularly reason, much less a good one.
>>28923417
Personally I'd go with
http://www.amazon.com/Ka-Bar-Straight-Knife-Leather-Sheath/dp/B0018RH23C
unless you know you can use the full 7 inch blade. I have the full size and it's rather unwieldy for most tasks.
>>
>>28924368
Not that guy, serrations are harder to sharpen and d2 steel is harder to Sharp's than the typical 1095 you see on most kabar but the d2 extreme is one of the best mkii types around

If you are a poorfag get the Ontario 498 or the sp1, the 498 is rougher than a kabar but its still just as functional and the treatment they put on the handle will make it hold up to the elements better, though its not as pretty

I have an sp1 and the grind is surprisingly perfect, it came well sharpened too, maybe better than the 498 would have, the handle is nice and nonslip, i expect it will hold up pretty well but i got it with the intentions of making a new one for it

The sheath is OK but not great, kabar sells sheathes separate and i believe the kydex leather and nylon sheaths will fit any kabar type, they would be a good investment for the money you save with the Ontario
>>
>>28924358
>Is it true what he said about why the Ka Bar has that dip in it next to the handle?

There's abundant fuddlore that fullers have anything to do with bloodletting, which they don't. He is correct in saying that there's nothing to that.
>>
>>28924619
You're right they aren't to let blood out, its to break suction so the knife doesn't get stuck as easily

>>
If you're getting one as a collector go for it. If you want a knife for innawoods/operating operationally there are a lot better designs these days.
>>
>>28924807
Pretty cool anon
>>
>>28924368
you wont be disappointed if you do buy it.
the serrations aren't hard to sharpen and will only require sharpening very seldom. you can get a rod sharpener from the hardware store for <$10, you just run it over the serrations in the event of burrs/cracks/damage which again probably will never happen
the nature of serrations aids in edge retention, they are not a pain.
D2 is harder to sharpen but it's not a big deal. lots of people act like knives are magical things that no man can master, it's just a piece of metal, don't be intimidated.
>>
>>28924783
>>28924807
How long can one use that for if they know how to properly sharpen it?
>>
>>28924915
forever
>>
>>28924915
Not him but my grandpa used his through a war and a couple decades hunting and camping, as long as you take care of it you can expect it to be usable your whole life

His was more narrow because of how much was sharpened away over the years but that's mostly cosmetic

There are better knives depending on what you want to do with them but kabar are time tested

>>28924915
It's been through plenty even had the tip chipped and it's always sharpened back up eas I'll and consistently. The point isn't a drop point like they advertise anymore but it's pretty stabby. It can go through a shitty sedan car door with no damage. I'd say withat proper care I could get buried with it.

Mike has like 1000 videos and some do suck and it is hard to find the good stuff. His sort of secret war stories are pretty good:

http://counterterrormikemah.blogspot.com/2012/06/crappy-vietnam-war-stories.html

He talks more about killing people with the KA-BAR in his chapter 2 - O video there.

He is going to San Pedro Sula, Honduras for a vacation or something so that should be pretty good. That is one of the most dangerous cities on Earth so he should have a lot of fun there! :D

Camillus Ontario pilot survival knives are much much better then the ka bar. Just saying I have had both for over 10 years and I've has the same pilot knives but every ka bar fucking breaks. Piece of shit

Would not recommend the newer ka bars unless you just want a cool looking knife. They are not full tang and therefore not very indestructible. The Becker bk-9 is an extremely solid knife would reccomend/10.
>>
>>28929015
Glock knives are mich better then Ka-bars. I use mine last may long weekend to chop fire wood because I forgot my fucking axe. Also used for food prep which consisted of a bon fire with an old tool box on top with the lid open proped up with a metal piece and then we put a chicken on top wrapped in tin foil... was a long fun very intoxicated weekend!
>>
>>28929151
I prefer the condor Hudson bay knife. Sometimes the finish is a little rough but with a moded Handel that has a hole at the bottom of the grip for a hand wrap and some re grinding the blade a bit the knife is perfect. I can even widdle with it if I hold the stick and the knife in between my legs if I really wanted to.

I haven't used mine as much as I should, but I do like it

Compare the prices for a new KABAR vs a WW2 issued one with the vast majority of the original finish and original sheath, it is significant, which means lots of people do.

it's still a shit knife, issued to grunts, made by the lowest bidder, and approved by some bureaucrat counting pennies in a war.

Collectible war memorabilia prices doesn't mean shit for quality.

And unless you are actually fighting with it, a hunting/bushcraft knife is way better.

Enjoy your meme.
>>
>>28932402
>made by the lowest bidder

Kabars were made by practically every major knife company in the US.
