What do you think of Rock Island 1911's? Reliability and quality, that kind of thing. A large amount of people are happy with it, but I'm also finding a few people saying they get jam often. Anyone here have actual experience with the RIA 1911?

yeah, mine works just fine. some faggot might come in and say they're all garbage and none of them will ever make it to 500 rounds. but I've put 2500 through mine so far and haven't had any issues.
>>
Just bought one yesterday, already put 100 rounds through it. Only 1 failure to extract but that was due to the magazine. Get a Wilson Combat 47 or 47d magazine and you're golden. Congratulations you've bought the best budget 1911 on the market. Those people who say it jams are probably using the stock mag.Just bought one yesterday, already put 100 rounds through it. Only 1 failure to extract but that was due to the magazine. Get a Wilson Combat 47 or 47d magazine and you're golden. I'm gonna order one tonight (the 47 is on sale). I did a ton of research on the pistol before buying and cannot find anything bad about it

I like mine, about 1k rounds in and hasn't failed on me yet, and eats JHP's like a champ. The grips look and feel like cheap garbage though.

I'd say worth the price if you just want a beater gun to dick around with.
>>
>>28396816

Is it the plain one or one of their "tactical" ones that the add a different trigger and sights onto it? I found one for $500 in their matte black finish and one for $570 for the one with low-profile sights, different trigger, and different hammer.
>>
>>28396859
>$500 in their matte black finish and one for $570
you're getting ripped off. they're $400 guns.

I have a normal GI model, but the guy I bought it from added a beaver tail, skelontized trigger and hammer, and better grips. basically everything you would get with the tactical version, minus the ambi safety and sights.
>>
>>28396889

Gotta keep looking then. I was offered one for $400 2 years ago, I figured they went up in price. Glad I asked.

>>28396844

I'm still looking for now. I've been thinking of getting a matte nickel one, but I don't know how the finish would hold up. No OWB carry here and they're probably too big for IWB, so it would most likely never be carried.

>>28396845

That's pretty much what it would be. My buddy bought a Para Ordnance 1911 for $550 and let me shoot it. That's when I learned 1911's are the most comfortable guns (that I've shot so far) and wanted one for myself. I heard the grips are meh, but I can always replace them, so it's not a huge factor.

Fit and finish is a little less than say a kimber colt les baer. But it'll shoot accurately and reliably.

For about half the price of other 1911's, it shoots well and will put a smile on your face.
>>
>>28396807

Good goy
>>
>>28396967

I don't care much for the finish quality. The nickel looks nicer imo and it'll be strictly a range gun. I just don't want to have to be trying to correct jamming more than I do shooting. I just wanted to get some opinions from /k/ before buying it.
>>
I like mine
>>
>>28397038
Nah its good to go for reliability.

The earliest models had some issues, but RIA has outstanding customer service. Mine is a gen1, it had some feeding issues. RIA admitted the magazine catch was likely the reason for the failure to feed. Sent me a new mag release and all the problems went away.
>>
>>28397101

I like yours too.

>>28397113

Awesome. Maybe some did haveproblems and the people that complained online would rather complain vs. work with RIA and get it fixed.

Ive had 2, the citadel 1911 and the RIA tactical m2011. Immediately swapped the grips with kimber grips and the mags for kimber or Wilson combat. Finish wears pretty fast if it's a carry gun, but overall they're a good gun. Both my tactical and the citadel eat 185gr jhp no problem, but for the first 100rds they had issues with winchester white box and magtech. Maybe its the ammo, but the tactical is my nightstand gun due to it having night sights. All that aside, I like RIA for the value and suitable quality. They're no tack drivers, but 2-3" groupings @25yds with a rest isn't bad.
>>
>>28397249

That's what I was looking for. Looks like it's going to be my next purchase.
>>
I bought a tactical right around 2 years ago. I shot it more than anything else in 2014, I think total round count for that year was over 14k. I replaced the recoil springs and put in a new guide rod. Also the factory mags suck.

With better magazines reliability is 100%. It was not unusual to put 500 or more rounds through it in a day.

Also, I replaced the rear sight with a mount and fastfire 3. Works great but you have to do some fitting. The rear site dovetail is not a true Novak cut.

RIA thread is the best budget 1911. It functions very reliably. It just doesn't look at pretty as others.

You might be able to find a used Les Baer for right at $1500. Barring that, a Dan Wesson.

I've owned a few Armscor guns. They're a great bargain for the ~$600 they cost but let's not kid ourselves, they're a budget gun. They can't compete at $1000, let alone $1500.
>>
>>28398620
>buy RIA for $400
>throw $600 of hand fit parts into it
>enjoy 10/10 tack driver for less than a lesbian bear
>>
>>28398646
All that work to replace everything except the bare receivers and you're still dealing with the various shitty tolerances machined into them, a shitty finish, and cast receivers. You might as well build it from scratch using a Fusion forged frame/slide kit at that point.
>>
>>28398382
Buy an RIA, then replace parts up to your budget in wilson parts.
>>
Get one. Shoot it allot. Don't modify it.

Save money for your next 1911 set up exactly how you want it.

This. They are great budget 1911s, the only stop I make getting below Remington or Springfield. Don't piss away money on it though, your better off getting something that's been built and fitted with the cool guy parts you want. Finally bit on an MC Operator after years of putting one off and couldn't be happier for the cost of entry.

Picture fairly related, far left is an RIA Tac II 10mm. It's a meme/bear gun only. Fun, but like most RIAs a little rough around the edges.

> INB4 potato pic

I have A1 FS Tac II. I have about 950 rounds through the gun and no problems at all. I love it as my first 1911 although I have shot a couple 1911s before. My only complaint is the ridiculous amount of grease they come packed in but that's understandable since they get shipped from the Phillipines.
>>
Great budget shooters.

>>28396889
>they're $400 guns.
They're typically found in the $300 range. Like 350
>>
>>28399191

This right here. They're parts aren't outrageous in price for the quality, but their pistols GOD DAMN
>>
>>28399478
>Don't modify it.
Why not? I mean, it's a basic 1911, but the wood grips you get in the box aren't extraordinary. Also, whar everyone else says, the RIA mags are kind of mediocre, get some Chip McCormick or Wilson Combat mags, then the gun runs like a dream.

I would kinda wanna get one in .40 and put a ReCover grip/rail on it just to have a weird gun.

other than grips hes right
they dont make good custom setups cause the base gun is mediocre
all that money spend on a trigger job would be better off going into a higher end 1911
>>
>>28401778
Change the grips to your liking and buy Wilson mags.

Grips and mags will work on other 1911s in the future.

DONT buy a bunch of high dollar parts. You'll need an experienced 1911 smith to fit them and then you'll still have a 1000 dollar 400 dollar gun.
>>
>>28402707
I don't even like .40 that much, I just feel like it'd be fun to have.
I'd rather have it in 9mm if I was gonna carry it (but I wouldn't).
But I wouldn't put ReCover grips on a carry piece either, god that would be bulky.

>>28402836
>>28403534
Woah woah, I'm not talking about any crazy shit here, just maybe different sights or something.

To me, an RIA would be a gun to just have fun with and for fooling around (not that it isn't a great pistol for it's price point, but I can think of way better guns for defense or target shooting for just a few Benjamins more).
