New gunfag here. I'm looking to put together the least expensive rifle/optic package in a .308 bolt-action for hunting. Inexpensive but not shoddy and cheap, I'd like it to last a few years, and would appreciate your expert opinions.

Savage 11
Like the hog hunter with decent scope should be around $600.

How about a long eye relief scope? What would be your recommendations?
>>
>>28393621
Not buy one, unless it goes on a pistol
>>

the axis 2 and ruger american are fine out of the box. And at that price range, they are hard to beat.
if you want to start complaining about this or that or want this little thing or another, the price point climbs up there.

Savage with a Burris scope -- the latter runs about $150 at Opticsplanet.com.
>>
>>28393399
>Less than $300
Savage Axis XP -- works fine but the scope isn't worth keeping.
>$300 to $500
Savage 11 Trophy Hunter XP -- the scope is actually half-decent. Surprising really.

You'll get a lot of recommendations for Savage because they make cost-effective bolt-actions with good accuracy. The Axis rifles are typically 1 to 1.5 MOA while their higher-end options are typically 1 MOA or better.
