Been confused but this stormtrooper in the movie pulls out the anti jedi weapon which is deployed ready for use.

Then he spins it around into the same position??? What was the purpose of spinning it around from a weapons standpoint if the weapon is already deployed? Is this an implication like the old west where they spun their weapons around during battle to psych out the enemy by blowing their minds?

This.

Also, he deploys it out, away from his body. He assumes the Jedi is a major threat, so he spins it around so its in line with his forearm. That's how you use a tonfa-style weapon.
>>
I mean, if you're looking for realism in a Star Wars movie, this seems like a minor point.
>>
>>28373889
This! Two stock blaster JJ is a fucking retard, and the new Star Wars sucked Wampa rectum.

Actually, this one makes sense. Every piece of documentation says the E-11 is a good rifle. Hell, it eats up the new Battlefront pretty well. But Stormtroopers themselves can't hit shit.

The folding stock solves this. The stock gives stability and accuracy, the Stormtroopers don't use it and therefore are inaccurate.

It's a tonfa. You're supposed to have it held up against your forearm to block blows. He lengthens it, and spins it around to put it in the correct position. Looks fancy and superfluous, but it's just a cool way of deploying it correctly.

Hmm ive been through police training with the PR24 and was never taught to spin it about like a baton to increase its effectiveness?

If anything twirling a PR24 or tonfa based weapon results in a lack of control and opens the user up to a windo of attack while the twirling takes place.

Kylo uses a cracked crystal in his saber, which makes the blade unstable and I guess it gets too hot, so he has exhausts to vent off the excess heat from the core
>>
>>28374612
There's a couple theories on that, one is that its exactly what Plageius did to make Anakin such a powerful Force Sensitive, which apparently transferred to his children (and their grandchildren).

Other theories though, say that Midichlorians aren't responsibile for the powers, they're just a byproduct or attracted by it. As such, they're good indicators of force capability, but generally do nothing otherwise. This would also partially explain why no one cares about them after the first movie.
>>
>>28374580
This is a guess, but he probably uses a cracked crystal due to there being a lack of good quality crystals.

It could also explain why the First Order uses the crystals to power they're replacements for turbo lasers on ships. They might be not high enough quality for a saber, or there's an impurity that makes them power suitable for lasers/shipborne blasters.

>Why is stormtrooper armor white?
So the best of the best can be seen in all their imperial glory on the battlefield, obviously.

That commander in their shiny not-mando variant was obviously shiny for the same reason.

Also because economies of scale and the First Order might be using legacy equipment and/or can't afford to retool the production/can't get a new suit that's better enough to make retooling the production lines worth it.

>Zero protection
All the shots into it we we see in the movie were either from fuckoff powerful weaponry (bowcaster, Han's DL-44) or were shot by characters with plot armor into center mass at close range. Could be more of an M1 pot philosophy, if they get shot they're toast but keeping the shrapnel off will keep them combat effective.

>Not filtering toxins
That's a resource intensive feature to add. Why give everyone the ability when for less time and resources you can have a special NBC corps?

Also so the MCs would have an excuse to hide in the not-smuggling hole from the people that tractor beamed them, Just Like In The Originals!!1!

So plot, essentially.

Apparently the Clone armor was white because Kaminoans only see in UV, so they saw nothing wrong with it when they mass produced it. Later war equipment had camouflage. Palpy probably figured his peacetime army would look better in all white like the fresh and shiny clones.

>>

Not that guy, but if I remember correctly, vibroblades are just bladed weapons that vibrate fast enough to block lightsabers. Think High-Frequency Weapons from Metal Gear.
>>
>>28374929
>that you can just build one
That's where they come from, they're all assembled by hand.

In fact, it's an early part of Jedi training to be able to assemble your own, and when you do it becomes yours.
>>
>>28374891
I forget where it was from, but one of the books I think said jedi used the force to regulate how long a light saber extended. also I've always assumed that they used the force to get a sense for where the blade of their lightsaber was, seeing as how it would otherwise be weightless and impossible to feel where it was, and you would probably decapitate yourself twirling it around like they do.

Yeah, if you consider "effectively" to include force throwing, surpa force strength, deflecting blaster bolts and all the other plot powers. Otherwise, not really.

>Shitloads of training to not kill yourself?
Yes, but any old idiot can do it if he wants to.

I think the reason nobody's running around with the things is that it's easier to train with "conventional weapons" that don't horrifically mutilate you at the slightest fuckup, and there are literal millennia of cultural indoctrination of "only force users use lightsabers"

>but lightsabers have training modes

Yes, but lightsabers are still considerably less forgiving of fuckups in battle than a vibroblade or what have you would be.
>>
>>28374929
They're all handmade by the jedi that use them, stolen sabers notwithstanding.
>>
>>28374929
Except for the crystal, the components of a lightsaber are easily acquired just about anywhere. It's the act of assembly and properly combining the parts that turns it into a proper lightsaber. The Sith Rule of Two allowed passage of that knowledge, and a well-trained Jedi knows it as well. Ren probably only got half the training needed before he went and built his own, and got lucky that it was functional, and didn't just explode.

The bigger thing with the crystals the Jedi used was that those particular ones resonated with their finders in the force, which gave a more personal attachment to the blade than a Sith's.
>>
>>28374947
>Vibrate fast
Yes, for inflicting horrific wounds.

Lightsaber blocking comes from a mineral called cortosis that's tough to get. Weave it into your blade and blamo, lightsaber katana can't just slice your sword in half.

You're probably thinking of Jacen's Vongsaber, that used a little gravity lensing creature he'd attuned to as the focusing crystal. Most variable-length sabers just used a multi-crystal interchange mechanism.
>>
About the crystal thing. Red crystals were artificially produced by the Sith becuase the Jedi owned the planet that all the other saber crystals came from.

The reason that Ren uses a cracked red crystal is probably because the method for producing them was lost at some point when the Empire fell apart, and it's probable that the Jedi destroyed all traces to the planet that the saber crystals come from.

>because anyone can pick up and use a light saber.
Anyone can pick up and use a lightsaber, but it is the combination of precognition and formal training that lets it be useful on the battlefield. Otherwise you're just that idiot who brought a sword to a gunfight and gets shot dead.

>>28374228
>If they find out that a stun baton works pretty well for deflecting lightsabers, why not use it just in case?
Because if the lightsaber user is a regular person that lacks precognition, then he's fucked if you just shoot at him with your gun. If the lightsaber guy is a force user that has precognition, then normal people like you are at an extreme handicap and it would be extraordinarily foolish to engage them in melee combat.

Either way you're better off staying at range and shooting unless your are some kind of best-of-the-best grandmaster who is skilled enough to overcome all the bullshit ways a Jedi can cheat the laws of physics in a fight.

I would believe that if the First Order just had a small fleet of ships that was continuously evading the grasp of the Resistance (or is it the Republic and their "Massive fleets" that are never seen?). But then they revealed their fucking PLANET SIZED SUPER WEAPON that is larger than anything ever seen before and capable of destroying neighboring solar systems by firing lasers through hyperspace.

That's the sort of thing that is achieved by super powers with near unlimited resources at their disposal. (INB4 Snokes rips of Palpatine even further and is secretly the leader of the New Republic).

Han - Doesn't really give a shit
Chewie - Just kind of likes her.
that old bar owner with the glasses - wants to use her most likely, is just social networking.

No, but he's doing blindfolded blaster deflection with only "stretch out with your feelings" and TKs the torpedoes. Just because they don't use the same powers doesn't mean anything. Luke had no reason to even try it in the movies before that point.

Or are you going to try to claim Anakin's natural force progression allowing him to fly a craft normally impossible for humans to manage isn't similar?

It was explained pretty extensively in games that people using it don't count in for the lack of resistance after striking a target and end up chopping off a leg/foot/bodypart in the after swing.

Think of how a person chopping wood with an axe for the first time, but with the ability to phase right through a limb.
>>
Here's my personal opinion on the movie
Good:
+++Literally everything about Ren in general, he was fantastically acted and portrayed an emotionally stunted autist well
+++Like seriously Ren was the best part of the movie

The eh:
=The Republic not really doing much at all
=The Resistance using decades old ship designs
=This is a neutral thing because you could reason the Republic having a tenious peace with the first order (pre-not-deathstaring) and equips the resistance with arms and firepower in addition to military commanders (essentially how the USA used rebels in afghanistan), explains the resistance still using shitty X-Wings
=Han dying was pretty obvious

The bad:
-Finn being raised and indoctrinated from birth only to turn around in 5 seconds and murder hundreds of the people he worked/trained/lived with (ex: the tie fighter hanger scene, the chase on jakku, suggesting fucking gassing stormtroopers)
-Hey guys lets do that whole planet buster thing again but BIGGER
-Why does the starkiller base have literally no standing fleet?
-Why does the first order have no tie bombers or tie interceptors?
-Why does the resistance have no Y-Wings or A-Wings?
-Even with the above explaination, why doesn't the resistance have any frigates or light capital ships?
-Rey magically becomes great at literally everything (her knowing about ships is justified, being a super great pilot and becoming fantastic at force use in 5 minutes is silly, if they do something with her in the next movies this could shift to positive)
-SNOKE THE SMOKEY FUCKING SNAKE
-SERIOUSLY
-HIS NAME IS SNOKE
-IT'S WORSE THAN SHEEV
>>

>Use the force, Luke.

It makers some sense when you take into account how terrified he is of the First Order once he has that "holy fuck we're the bad guys" moment during the village slaughter, since he has a good idea of how big they really are and what kind of firepower they have.

1 is the worst because it's unnecessary. Nothing in it is important to the saga as a whole. 2 and 3 aren't great, but at least the story is relevant and a decent base a better director could've worked with.

>>28376306
No but, 1 builds the world and shows the greater universe of Star Wars better than the other movies really did. The contrast between Naboo and Tatooine, the slave vs royalty thing, those were all cool to see.

It was a decent movie with decent acting and decent plot. 2-3 had crucial plot details but had terrible acting, terrible plot and terrible fucking everything.

The fact Vaders backstory is he is an easily manipulated whiney bitch who murders children because he thinks he is the good guy because some dude who says "UNLIMITED POWER" told him to is a sin against cinema and humanity as a whole.
>>
>>28376369
>they were good movies

They are okay movies if you watch fan edits. Episode 1: The Phantom Edit is actually one of the best movies in Star Wars and could ride alongside the OT easily.

3 is pretty much unsalvagable.
>>
>>28376422
That worldbuilding could've been done literally any other way. The entire plot is Palpatine tricking Gunray into creating a scenario that gets the current Chancellor voted out and him voted in as sympathy. You can literally cut the first one out and nobody will miss anything.

Your argument implies the Star Wars is about politics, the empire and the Jedi. It is not.

Star Wars is a story of the Skywalker family. Anakins origins as a fucking slave, his freedom from slavery, and his antics as a child are, yes, crucial. George fucked up the next movies so it doesn't really matter.

>>
>>28376482
And it still, SOMEHOW, was better than the shit fest that is Anakin SkyStalker in Episode 2 and Whiney Fuckface with no Moral Compass in Episode 3.

Seriously, he's creeper thristing on Padame hardcore but she was feelin' it low key so they eventually hook up. He was borderline going to rape her.

Seriously, rewatch Episode 1. It had a cool as fuck villian, Qui-Gon Jinn was a great character with good acting. Darth Maul was fucking cool even with an obviously gimmick saber. Action overall was okay, acting was okay, pod racing was pretty cool. It was an okay movie. Could have been done better, but wasn't bad.

If Episode 2 and 3 were more like Episode 1, that trilogy would have been much better received. Instead we saw a bunch of politics, a bunch of droid production facilities or barren wasteland planets with fuck.

The only reason people enjoy episode 2 and 3 is because there are actual battle scenes which are okay. Wookies destroying Droids are cool, and "EXECUTE ORDER 66" is one of the best things in that trilogy, if not all of Star Wars, but all the small little gems are burried SO FUCKING DEEP under useless shit that it's hard to enjoy those films.

And then, yes, they butcher the back story of movies greatest Villian.

he was direct, sardonic, no-nonsense and a really angry motherfucker. he was arguably less of a bitch than lucas ended up making anakin. i kept getting the impression that adam driver was channelling xavier bardem as anton chigur a lot of the time. like the weird intonation to the voice, and the 'where is it?' part, like bardem's 'where is he?' questioning in the trailer park.

no, ren was fine. the rest of the movie was pretty mediocre though.

>also, Jar Jar Binks
>fuck everything even tertiarily related to that character with a rake

Episode 2 was actually better for me. Battle scenes didn't seem so small-scale and childlike, clones were cool.
>>
>>28376535
Her flashbacks imply that she's the sole survivor of Kylo Ren's murder-tantrum, but that still leaves her being something like 7 when she gets dropped off on Jakku. What they should have done was make her fight with the two goons trying to steal the droid more vicious and one-sided. It'd sell her fight with Ren better if the first time we saw her fight was a brutal beatdown instead of a brawl.

Plus it's really hard to care about anyone claiming Rey is a Mary Sue when R2-D2 has been in every single film.

>>28376518
I read that the biggest issue with the actor's appearance is when they revealed his face, that him looking like a regular, even goofy, person would have had more impact if we hadn't seen his face until his confrontation with Han.

2 and 3's failings were solely because Lucas wrote and directed them. The story itself was salvageable, the actors did what they could with the dialogue and childish directing.

Maul didn't really do anything in 1. He was there to be a cool setpiece fight, nothing more. It took the Clone Wars series to really build him up as an interesting character.

I have no issues with the story itself. You can easily tell the story of Anakin being manipulated and pushed to the Dark Side, how the "chosen one" can be malleable like any other person. The story isn't the issue. It's the execution, and it's all Georges fault.

Pic related is like "Holy shit Star Wars is fucking badass" and then you hear Anakin bitch about how sand is coarse and rough and gets everywhere (but not like you) and you want to hang yourself.

>>
>>28376732
His Jedi training was severely incomplete, as his lightsaber demonstrates. More likely than not he stormed off at some point in his training and that's when he fell in with the Knights of Ren, they fucked around for several years, then came back to wipe out the new Jedi. He likely needs the other six to be a really effective force.
>>
>>28376651
the prequels are fucking amazing in conception and fucking bad in execution. anakin's path to the dark side should have been one of the greatest dramas in cinematic history, all of the ingedients were there (his mother, smug bastards telling him they couldn't interfere with slavery and lecturing him from their ivory towers, all that shit) and instead it fucked out into ass-poor emo kid god awful bullshit. from a director who had kurosawa as a major influence. i don't know fuck.

the best portrayal of young vader in the cinema was the kid in looper. search your feelings, you know it to be true.
>>
>>28376749
>His Jedi training was severely incomplete

compared to rey, who had none. it's not an argument you can win.

>More likely than not he stormed off at some point

that's exactly what happened and why luke left. that's in the movie itself. however, his training was continued by snoke, and rey had no training at all.

remember, he can stop blaster bolts and eat bow shots. it's just a bit silly.
>>
>>28376765

Check the wikipage out, and then go and download Phantom Edit and Attack of the Phantom.

He takes a bad movie and makes it good, man. He still had to work within the limits of what was there, but he literally found a way to make those movies good enough to recommend to people.

My problem is I haven't found an Episode 3 edit on the same level yet. A lot of fan edits really suck and can even make Episode 3 worse than it already is.

The most popular explanation is she's a skywalker that trained at the academy, Kylo came and fucked shit up, and killed everyone but her. kylo then turned on the rest of ren boys, and she was ditched on Jakku.

Neither of which have anything to do with lightsaber battles; he might not even be that versatile of a Force user, just someone who has a really good trick up his sleeve.

Look at his fight with Finn, despite clearly outclassing Finn he keeps showboating and manages to get himself injured.

>Neither of which have anything to do with lightsaber battles

the force lends precognition and mental strength to its adepts, remember? and he is so powerful he can stop blaster shots. with the force. and the people using those blasters. and just make rey pass out.

but then apparently rey becomes a total force user in the space of one scene. whatever.

>>28376909
>Luke wiped her memory. and she was fucking 5 years old.

but i thought we knew nothing about her past life?

so what you're saying is that despite having stopped all training at the age of five, and having never used her training for the next decade plus, all of a sudden she could out mind trick a guy that was not only a skywalker but had received years more training and had been using the force his entire life. ok. sure.

>did you see all those visions when she touched the lightsaber

maybe she was just a psychic? and again, you've someone who hasn't done shit since she was a kiddy and can't remember it even if she did (your theory) suddenly trump some guy of the same lineage who has been doing it his entire life. to the level that he can do shit that not even luke or anakin ever did.
