anybody have history with the SWFA SS 10x?

I was initially looking at a bushnell LRS 10x42 and most people said spend the extra bit of money on one of these

I'd like to hear /k/'s response before I cash out though

it will only be mounted on a Howa m1500 in .308 hence the cheaper optic and relatively low magnification because it's only a .308

honestly I first came across the idea of a fixed 10 from the movie Shooter because it's on his r700 (pic related)

I know a movie would be thinking what's cheapest and looks most tactical, but then I thought about it and realized a fixed 10 isnt a bad idea because you dont need to stress about FFP or SFP in a drastically cheaper yet still high quality level of glass

Do NOT buy from Bushnell; I'm telling you.

I've owned 4 of their products, both times they broke/factory defected, both times I got a replacement, both times they sent me slightly less fucked up versions. The cunt from the MAC had a bushnell scope and it wouldn't hold zero.

I had a BTR-1 and TRS25.

Do not buy from Bushnell. Literally anything else is a better choice.

Only a .308? If you're any kind of a shooter you're going to push the limits of 10x in a hurry.
>>
>>28362979
10x is perfectly fine for everything .308 can do. I rarely dial my 24x past ~12x even at a thousand yards. I'd rather easily spot my splash and stay out of mirage than have super mongo magnification.
>>
>>28362979
I have a 7mm rem mag for anything above 600, 308 starts to hit it's practical range past 600 and can be pushed to 1000 however not practically, I usually shoot it upto 500

>SWFA 10x
so fucking cash for how much it costs, it would be worth your money at twice the price

Get the SWFA, you won't regret it. Beats the living fuck out of anything else in it's price range, let alone many things above it.

Not OP, but why are they not better known?
>>
>>28364663
They don't market to try-hard tacticool faggots.
>>
>>28364895
always a good thing although if theyre so good I'd like to see them stay
>>
>>28365136
They have been around for a long time and will continue to be, the SWFA SS line are the old (I'm not kidding) Tasco scopes that were contacted for US Mil. The design is solid, and SWFA has not skimped on the production quality, in fact you could say they enhanced it with their now available side parallax and the mil-quad reticle.
>>
>>28365183
wow, that's definitely not what I expected, ah well I'm not one to be picky on brands because that's slightly idiotic, but that's definitely a brand I didn't expect to hear :D
>>
>>28363016
I like having 32x available for self-spotting. It does get annoying when the barrel heats up, but otoh I don't have to buy and lug a spotting scope around.
>>
If they where available in Canada I'd have 2 or 3 of the swfas
>>
>>28362442
Everyone at snipers hide suggests this for a great first optic. But here is a question for the optic crowd, what comes after a SWFA SS 10x? Assume im looking to get further out with 308
>>
>>28365890
I've always been a big leopold guy, their upper ragne stuff is fantastic, but it really depends on your budget, you could go a nightforce or even a S&B

however before that I'd move away from 308, it really is on it's last legs by 1000

go a 7mm rem mag or a 6.5cal rifle
>>
>>28365926
Yeah im not doing reloading so a 308 platform makes more sense when you compare loaded match availability and cost.

Just would be hype to punch paper at 1000 sometimes
>>
>>28365183
>the SWFA SS line are the old (I'm not kidding) Tasco scopes that were contacted for US Mil
Reminds me of a story
>Talking with my vietnam vet grandpa
>He loves giving me advice about shooting, I love getting advice
>Tells me the best brand scope in the world is Tasco
>Show him my 3-9x42 SS
>He's tickled as hell over it
Now if only the damn gun it was mounted on was worth a shit
>>
>>28365970
Something to chew on if you ever tire of .308, depending on what your local stores stock or if you order ammo online. 6.5 Creedmoor is far better suited out to 1k (and beyond) than .308 and with Hornady pumping out the hype train fir it, match grade ammo from them is ~$1/round which is often a better price than 175smk loaded match .308 by a few tens of cents a round.

All that and its only a re-barrel away, no new rifle needed.
>>
>>28366001
Im looking at the Ruger precision rifle so caliber swaps arent quite there yet. Even looking online im seeing 175gr 308 match for $0.70 compared to $1.12 for the cheapest 6.5. Even Federal Gold Medal Match is $0.94.

Unless im missing something .308 is still cheaper
>>
>>28366027
$0.70/round is a steal for loaded sierras snap those up assuming they are not something like the perfectas or ppu non-smk 175s.

Good price for FGMM as well usually see it hovering in the $1.20-1.50 range.
>>
>>28366001
You can also reload it with some loads that are insanely cheap and accurate. I am a huge 6.5 creedmore fanboy
