Depends on what you call a tank but,

1. mobile artillery.
2. armored personnel transport.

Because we have been fighting COIN operations exclusively for the last 20 years and mostly for the last 50, so what a first world military equips its infantry with has little bearing on how we operate.

in short, tanks will stay around for a very long time. with each AT measure, there will be countermeasures. Syria's using 40+ year old tech. New stuff is fucking awesome.

If you look closely you can see the crew member(s) jumping out of the tank that is dramatically blowing out fire. That is the point of American tanks. No one said they can take a TOW to the side (at least no logical person) and keep on trucking, but they have great protection (especially with DU inserts that the Americans only have) and great crew survival rates. Also, you think that the Arabs are good tank drivers? A tank is only as good as its crew.

Wire-guided missiles have an IR flare up their arse that the launcher keeps track of, and based on the missiles location compared to location of the target gives course corrections via the wire. Shtora works by disrupting the launcher from seeing the missile and thus it begins to give bad move commands that eventually steer the missile off course

Same ammunition storage as in T-72. Assuming crew compartment gets penetrated by antitank weapon... results will be just as spectacular. Only difference between T-72 and T-90 in practice is level of armor protection and potential anti-missile systems when it comes surviving hits.

You should watch that recent Jabhat Nusra video from Syria

They had simultaneous footage from a GoPro on a T-72 and a quad rotor drone, filming the T-72 & a BMP-1 assault a small village, held by Assad troops, surrounded by a berm.

The T-72 was hauling ass across this open field, the defenders behind the berm had time to fire one RPG which narrowly missed. There was no time to ready, aim and fire another round before the T-72 burst over the bern and was in a position to kill anyone still standing there with coax, so the defenders retreated to a cluster of buildings

The T-72 fired at one of them and most likely killed everyone inside and then started spraying inaccurate but scary coax everywhere, while moving around. Keep in mind there is less than 100 yards between the infantry and the tank at this point.

The defenders kept running

The moral of this story is, that it takes fucking balls of steel to face down an oncoming tank on open/flat terrain with a shoulder fired weapon. You're probably only going to get one chance to hit it before the tank kills you. It's one thing to read a weapons specs and see test firings on video, it's another thing to actually have to hit a fast moving tank that's spraying MG fire when you don't have much cover
