I got out after 5 spent a year as a civilian, went into the Reserves for the surge got out after 3 years as SGT, spent another year as a civilian, joined the NG for a tour in Afghanistan...ended up in Egypt instead, did three years there as a SGT and in that time they couldnt update my promo paperwork so at the end of that contract I signed up with the Reserves again...which reset my date of rank, but as soon as I met requirements I made SSG and I am on track to pick up SFC when I hit TIG.
Also in some MOS's its normal to see SSG's at nearly 20 years due to the retardedly high points (not in my current MOS)
