Any owners of 1980s-90s Norinco 1911s on /k/? I'm looking at one that's been mildly built into a target gun. Supposedly they have the best metallurgy of any 1911 but the prices are still pretty rock-bottom.
Guy will take $425 for the gun with Bo-Mar sights, full-length guide rod, adjustable skeleton trigger, and target grips. Pic isn't the one I'm looking at.
>made in china
I'd do it. At that price range you're only looking at RIA, Citadel, Para Ordnance, etc. so it's not like you're losing out on much by going Norinco.

Kinda triggers my autism seeing someone soup-up a import b& firearm like that, but to there own I guess.

The metal these things are made out of is top-grade tool steel. They destroy the mill cutters when gunsmiths work on them.

They're good steel, but if you're damaging inserts or endmills on one, you're doing something wrong.

I bet you didn't even center that tailstock

Nigga I rebuilt the head on that thing. New conical roller bearings and races.
My first girlfriend was the sciencey type, so for her birthday I made a repair part for her telescope with her birth date stamped into it.
OP here. This is the gun I'm getting if it checks out tomorrow.
I really wanted a more streamlined gun, so I'm torn between putting GI sights on it or getting the slide milled to fit that Bo-Mar correctly. The correct installation has the right sight installed in a flush pocket instead of on top of the slide.

Actually a nice gun. Sights are slightly larger than a stock 1911, and the one I shot worked 100% with any round we put through it.
Keep an eye on the upper lugs on the barrel, and budget replacing the barrel now. The stock barrels eventually round out their locking lugs, and eventually it damages the slide. A stock Colt barrel drops right in.

what the fuck china
I'd get it and put some GI sights on it.

The barrel softness doesn't cause the problem. The fit of the locking lugs does. You just notice it earlier on the Norinco barrel because it's softer. A replacement barrel will eventually get ruined if the gun isn't hand-fit.

I paid $450 for mine 6 months ago and it's stock as fuck aside from the grips.
Mags wouldn't drop free when I first got it but some massaging of the trigger bars fixed that.
I'd say you done damn good.
