Who wants to learn how to load a muzzle loading rifle?
Thompson Center Encore 209x50
This is not the way to load all black powder firearms, it is only A way for inline rifles. Other type of firearms will be different.

First figure out which bullet you should use,
My rifle has a 1:28 twist
I also like a flat trajectory for better long range accuracy.
I choose pic related, because Thompson recommends them, but I also get great accuracy with these.

Next is powder
The pellets are convineient because no measuring, but they cost more than the powder.
And you need to read your owners manual to know how many grains of powder to use.
Most rifles go upto 110 grains. But the encore and other magnum rated rifles can use 150 grains.
Accuracy will change depending on load.

The last component is the primer
The 209 shotgun primers are easy to use compared to the number 11 percussion caps.
My fat fingers have problems getting the percussion caps on the nipple. There are tools to help.

Lurking, need to learn this for deer season.

It also helps to have a shit ton of patches, cleaning jags, pipe cleaners to clean out the nipple, and a box to keep all the stuff in.

Inevitable you will get a cleaning patch stuck in the barrel
Spend the $3 and get this little bitch to remove the patch,

Black powder is measured by volume not by weight.
You will need a powder measure

Pyrodex pellets go in the barrel a specific way.
Notice the end with a bevel is darker and the grains are larger.
According the manufacturer this is to aid ignition. So the beveled side goes towards the breach.

Load the powder
Believed end toward the breach
Flat end toward the muzzle
Stand to the side.
If you are loading with the rifle but on the ground point that shit away from your face.
If this is your second shot the, potentionally there could be a spark in the barrel that can ignite the powder.
So point it in a safe direction,

Follow the powder with the bullet in the sabot
If using a round ball you will need to wrap the round ball in a patch. You have to figure out which size ball and a correctly sized patch,
Pointy end of the bullet towards the muzzle.

This ramrod is made specifically for conical bullets
Don't use it on a round ball because it will damage the soft lead, and a flat spot on the lead ball will decrease accuracy. They make adapters for your specific bullet.

This ram rod fits over the top of the bullet to prevent damage.
Firmly purse the bullet against the powder.
Don't leave a gap between the bullet and powder because pressure.
Don't throw the ram rod down the barrel and pound on the bullet because damage bullets don't fly straight.

Thanks
I was beginning to wonder

Get the battle buddy out of the way,
And keep the rifle pointed in a safe direction.

Forgot to mention
Many states won't let you have a loaded weapon in a woods before or after hunting hours,
For muzzle loaders you can have the powder and bullet in the barrel. But you cannot have a primer on the nipple or in the breach.
Remember to unload your guns when claiming into or out of a tree stand.

A dirty barrel will decrease accuracy so clean between shots.
I got this cleaner and its slippery stuff in Water.
So when it ran out I just replaced it was mild soap and water, no reason to waste money
Wet the patch, put a jag on the ram rod and send it down the barrel.
