why isn't 6.5 Grendel more popular
it is super easy to convert a 7.62x39 AK into a 6.5 Grendel AK
>>
>>28086466
What benefits does it offer over 7.62x39?
>>
>>28086466
It cracks bolts in ARs
Its a mid range cart, and AKs cant into accuracy.

Seems like 6.5 Grendel is to rifles as .40 S&W is to pistols.

Slightly better ballistics but less capacity than 5.56 but not as good as 7.62

At what range? seems like you would need a longer barrel and a heavier bullet to match and the case would limit the ultimate size of the bullet.

Who knows?
Like 6 years ago Wolf was supposed to be releasing cheap brass and steel cased 6.5 Grendel "soon" but that never really happened. I don't know if its even on the market yet since I haven't checked in so long.
Bill Alexander is a gigantic cunt so that probably has a lot to do with it.

>>28086489
>It cracks bolts in ARs
Thank god the Mutant exists now.

>>28086483
The case length and OAL let it seat super long ogive bullets. That means they have really high BC.
You can have a load with near 1:1 recoil characteristics to 7.62x39 but it'll be suitable for hitting targets at 600 yards+ with less drop than most .308 loads.
>>
>>28086586
What a godawful analogy. Those aren't comparable at

>>
Huh, I just ordered a 6.5 Grendel kit from Alexander Arms that should be arriving any day now. I'll be sure to let you cücks know what I think of it
>>
>>28086524

You can't swap barrels on an AK nearly as easily as on an AR. It would be much easier and cost effective to build a new AK from a kit.
>>
>>28088748
The fun part is 6.5 bolts that aren't just modified bolts are usually made of higher strength steels to avoid cracking. It's still an eventual trouble spot.

Until you decide to redesign the whole upper it's going to be an issue because the bolt can only get so big otherwise
>>
>>28088869
Like 5.45x39?
>>
>>28086466
6.5mm Grendel's main selling point is having better long range ballistics than .308 in a smaller package, not many people actually need that so they instead go with less expensive and more available ammunition.
>>
>>28086466
Changing an ak barrel requires nearly as much effort and equipment as building an ak.

I'm not sure why no one has built a high quality ak in 6.5g, makes some sense outside of the accuracy meme. It takes good qc, but an ak could be built accurate enough to take advantage of the cartridge.
>>
Does Grendel use a regular AR bolt like 5.56, .300blk and .50 Beowulf does?

Does it feed from normal STANAGs or do you need special 6.5 magazines?

How does it compare to .300blk?
How does it compare to 6.8 SPC?
>>
>>28088802
Wolf steel case and brass case 6.5 grendel is on sale at sgammo, 7 bucks a box of steel case
Only thing that made me consider getting an upper for it
>>
>>28086466
>it is super easy to convert a 7.62x39 AK into a 6.5 Grendel AK
>drill and press out trunion rivets
>press barrel out old barrel
>press in new barrel
>head space
>rivet

What part of that sounds at all like fucking 'super easy'?
>>
>>28088802
So you realize that you're entire first paragraph was a waste if time that you could have Google in 5 seconds. That wolf has been out for a while and AAs management of the cartridge is exactly what it needed to become standardized.

The real issue is that there are very few rifles chambered for 6.5G, especially bolt guns because even though every bolt action in existence comes in .223, some people can't seem to get their heads around the idea on an intermediate 6.5 in the same rifle. It's a shame because it really shines in bolt actions
>>
>>28089010
There's rumors of a howa mini action 6.5G coming out sometime next year, but yeah

the only boltgun option is apparently taking a 7.62x39 CZ527 and having a custom made 6.5Grendel barrel put on it
>>
>>28088943
>Does Grendel use a regular AR bolt like 5.56, .300blk and .50 Beowulf does?
HA. No.

>Does it feed from normal STANAGs or do you need special 6.5 magazines?
It can. I think a 30 round AR mag fits 25 rounds. Some manufacturers started selling Grendel specific mags though there really wasn't much different.

>How does it compare to .300blk?
There isn't even any use comparing them.
.300BLK can't produce equal muzzle velocities with similar weight bullets to 7.62x39. 6.5 Grendel however can, and it does so with bullets with massively superior drag profiles.

>How does it compare to 6.8 SPC?
6.8SPC was designed primarily for fragmenting and barrier blind OTMs fired from an M4. It provides ideal terminal performance out to 300 yards from a short barrel while still totally plowing through barriers. Doing so with an OTM instead of a typical bonded or all copper bullet means that the volume of the permanent cavity is still huge.

All of these are designed to excel in different niches as intermediate cartridges.
>>
>>28088943
No, uses a 7.62*39 bolt face, so new bolt.

special mags required.

better than both at long range because of ballistic coefficients of dem 6.5 bullets. .300 wins at subsonic, 6.8 has more energy inside of 400 yards or so, but not by much.

Compares mostly with 6.8 in most cases, but is the best long range round you can fit in a stanag mag. IMHO would be the perfect standard issue round, but since that ain't happening is prdtty pointless. If you want a little more punch for hunting .300blk wins on parts commonality. If you're going long range, why limit yourself to an AR15 when it's big brother/daddy or a bolt gun gives you much more capability.

Those seem like they could be fun, but I mostly hunt with .223 and .308. Mostly because I have cheap, light guns I can bang around in the woods with without a fuck given.
>>
>>28089107
>hunting

I just want to hang out the sunroof of this junked fan sitting on my property while mag dumping and yelling about nazis before Shia lebouf dies . Then I can tell my dig there's a hatch on the floor board
>>
>>28088943
No, special bolt.

STANAGs bodies, yes. Needs a different follower.

Its optimized for range. Its a 1000 yard round for an AR platform. BLK was created to match 7.62x39 in an AR platform, 6.8SPC was created for better terminal ballistics (with more recoil) out of an AR at general combat ranges.

>>28088925
5.45 is maybe one of those.

>>28088926
Grendel requires a 20+ inch barrel to reach its full potential, and still falls short once you step up to a .308 platform that has been rebarreled to 6.5 Creedmoor.
>>
>>28089192
>STANAGs bodies, yes. Needs a different follower.

Nope, it fits, but the mags swell after 5 or so rounds and don't feed worth shit. 6.5 mags have to be a little wider internally or they don't feed.
>>
>>28089245
I've never heard of that before, thanks for the correction.

The point is that there is little point in making the change to Grendel when there are other options that do the job better.
