What plane should the Russians field to directly counter the Turkish F16s?

You are absolutely wrong. The Sukhoi is faster, bigger, and more maneuverable due to 3D thrust vectoring. Not to mention the R-77 is better than the aim-120D

I believe its the Sukhoi Su-30SM because despite being twice the size of a F-16 it can outmanuver it, thanks to its thrust vectoring, infact it can outmanuver any aircraft in the world, though I think the F-16 has better avionics. Which one would win in a dogfight? My money is on the Sukhoi.

The s-400
>>
Is it cheaper and easier to shoot down a plane with anti air system like the S-300 or 400, than to use a fighter jet?
A fighter jet is a fighter jet, made to fight in the sky, you need a good pilot for dogfights and fuel in the jet, but a crew with 3 different trucks that supposedly can see you on a ctr monitor, aim at you and lock on with a push of a button, launch a smart rocket with a pull of a lever and a turning of a key can do it while farting silently and examining who smells it with their peripheral vision while they do it, while the pilot is thinking about what if he is forced to eject out of the plane if things go wrong.
Does a good and solid anti air system beat a pilot duel in the air? I mean it is more cool and romantic to do it in the air, 2 pilots dueling and shit, but movies are just movies.
>>
>>28063750
That only works because in the past rules of engagement meant the superior force couldn't just blast anything that beeped on the ground.

In an all out war any SAM crew would be sweating bullets and hoping they were far enough from the emitters not to eat a HARM / relocating every few hours.

In a realistic Ru/Turk war scenario most of Turkish air fleet would be grounded by Iskanders and Kh-101 in the first 24 hours of the stand-off. ITT we're assuming if this somehow wasn't the case.

Turkey has the latest generation of ECM's and jammer's for their F-16s one of the only countries outside of the US to use AN/ALQ-178(V)5 which was delivered to Turkey under the Peace Onyx III program.

Turkey has already deployed their KORAL anti radar system south of the border.

>>28068214

>>28068419

The MIG-31 is the fastest military aircraft currently in service, but it's slower than the MIG-25 was, though it's commonly believed that the MIG-25 couldn't max out without destroying its engines.
>>
>>28070011
All things considered, MIG 31s would be virtually untouchable. It would be a very difficult task for the Turks to engage one successfully.
>>
>>28070320

It's not outrunning mach 4.5 missiles.
>>
>>28070353
Got to get within range first and unspotted. Not an easy task. They could be vulnerable to pop up attacks from down low but one can't seriously see that happening as the Russians will be playing it safe.
>>
>>28069057
>>28069204
As much shit as they get, they do have their merits. Just take everything they say with a grain of salt and fact check every claim they make.
>>
>>28070353
In a different incident, two MiG-25s approached a pair of F-15s, fired missiles at long range which were evaded by the F-15s, and then outran the American fighters. Two more F-15s joined the pursuit, and a total of 10 air-to-air missiles were fired at the MiG-25s, though none reached them.
>>
>>28071749
So what you mean to say is that they escaped the engagement envelope of the missile. We don't have any manned aircraft capable of outrunning the missiles we fling at jets
>>
>>28071788
I don't mean to say anything, I just brought up a relevant quote. But now that you ask, yes, considering the original point was about the difficulty to engage it on the first place, that is pretty much my point.

>What plane should the Russians field to directly counter the Turkish F16s?

None, against the Turkish F-16's the Russians can't guarantee they won't lose another fighter in a border skirmish. Could you imagine if an Su-35 was shot down and, western-sympathetic allies managed to secure it, and the U.S. managed to get their burger-greased fingers on its Irbis-E radar and got to get a close look at its avionics package and thrust vectoring engines? Russian Air Force brass would be on suicide watch, it'd be almost as bad as if they shot down a PAK FA.

Instead, they should just stick with lobbing these gnarly fuckers.

What is the reason intakes are separated from the fuselage?
I've seen it on many planes. Is it just laminar flow or is there another reason?
>>
>>28076434

It's still a grave blow when an enemy gets their hands on a weapon of yours and figures out exactly how it works.

If they know how it works, they know how to exploit its greatest weaknesses.

The boundary layer air tends to be bad to ingest. Easiest way to deal with it is with the separator plates you see on most aircraft - it keeps the boundary layer out of the intake. It is possible to design an intake that makes it possible to ingest the boundary layer (see the F-35's intakes), but can cause big problems if you don't deal with it right (see the early production F-111s)

The MiG-29 in no way shape or form, can beat an F-16, especially in BVR.

Watch the Wings Red October doc on youtube to find out how difficult it is for even the best MiG pilots to get a kill against real 4th gen fighters

The SU-35 doesn't have anything the west really gives a shit about.

Russia would be more worried of an F-16 taking down a SU-35 because it would hurt export sales.

Turkish F-16 Block 50+ machines are equipped with Exelis ALQ-211V9 EW-Jamming suite, APG-68(V)9 RADAR, AIM-120C7 and AIM-9X missiles.

Also they are supported by airborne 737 AEW&C systems and locally produced EW systems like Koral.

Russians have a huge possibility of being humiliated again if they ever decide to take out a Turkish F-16

The Russians made a habit of poking at British airspace with MiG-31's earlier in 2015.

The British ended up scrambling Interceptors a couple of times. Shit was pretty funny.

I know very little about turkey but they seem very strong from what I've learned. They have a pretty impressive domestic defense industry and many modern weapons. Russia would lose badly in syria if the turks were pissed off.

>whose emission spectra aren't even known
...to you lol.

It would be fair to say the United States penetrates Russia quite deeply. From interception of communications, measurement/signature intelligence, signals intelligence and so on.

They should stick with deploying and using the S-400, so that RC-135 aircraft can be entertained.
>>
>>28064344
in that instance, it sounds like the IADS was very exploitable.

Given the work by Israel, UK and US on breaking air defense networks by nonkinetic means, decisionmakers relying on IADS may overestimate their systems.
>>
>>28065882
you idiot, once it goes nuclear tactical nukes can be used and they would be effective against causing disruption in their radar and identification equipment. When they encounter Important engagements, they will use them as often as they can. Air power has more versatility in this type of warfare which is the one that will go down.
>>
>>28065882
Against the S-400? MALD-J, JSOW, TLAM, JDAM, HARM, and JASSM-ER.
>>

They weren't near British airspace, it was over the Baltic Sea.

RAF Typhoons were the NATO aircraft in rotation to police the airspace for the Baltic States at the time. IIRC the Typhoons were based in Estonia

Not that guy, but the S-300 and S-400 both are nothing to be sneezed at. Sidelobe suppression makes them almost completely immune to older-gen anti-radiation missiles, and dramatically reduces the effect of offensive jamming as well (though defensive ECM aboard the aircraft being targeted should still work).
