What should I look into if I'm looking for a gun to defend my home and family?

That it is functional.

How's your house laid out?
Im in an apartment with a spiral staircase to the master bedroom. Going down stairs with long gun is a no go. Also I'm a huge taget coming down.
12 y/o downstairs
You should be able to manipulate the weapon, including firig with one hand. Might have to push family members behind you.

>firing with one hand
This is so often overlooked as people choose scattergats for home defense. The ability to cover someone with a gun while calling for help is invaluable. Consider that speakerphone may be difficult to use after shooting inside without hearing protection.

Or in front if you don't like your wife.

I personally thik long guns are where its at for HD. Thinking an SBR ps90 with a cheap can with varmint ammo might be where its at.
Knowing the police could hold onto it for years sucks if I had to use it. Probably why I'm using a G19 with surefire for now.

I suggest you an SKS
Can't go wrong with an SKS

No disabilities? Make sure he/she is part of the plan, that's plenty old enough to have personal responsibilities in a bad situation.

AR15 works
>Might have to push family members behind you
Why?

If you're on the phone while shooting at someone you've done it wrong.

Why not just get an AR?
Not even AR shilling though, want slavboory, go for an AK74 variant, any high velocity intermediate cartridge is good shit.
If I owned guns, I would use an SMG. Probably a P90 for the mag capacity and penetration (I would listen for the burglar's footsteps and shoot through the walls). For backup, I'd use a 9mm glock with a compensator and the biggest magazine a glock can take. I need all the bullets in one mag because I don't know how to reload guns.
something in 410/45LC would probably work well
you get shotshells in something that can be used one-handed with practice

From this short post I'm convinced you have special needs and are most likely in the care of a mental institution.
