It's not a mystery steel. It's 8CR13MOV, which is for all intents and purposes AUS-8.

It's not the best knife around for the money IMO, but if you like Emerson designs and don't want to spent 150-200 bucks on a knife it'll scratch the itch.

154CM is a totally different league of steel than 8cr13mov. It's like comparing VG10 to CPMS30V, or ZDP-189.

As for Emersons being overlriced, sure. But most nice knives are overpriced when you start looking at their actual capabilities objectively. There's not really all that much you can do with a 20 dollar knife you can't do with a one dollar bix cutter, and a 600 dollar Sebenza is not objectively capable of much more than a 40 dollar RAT 1.

But trash? Nah. Emersons are big goofy chisel ground "tactical" knives, and for what they are they're perfext. They are unapolagetically ridiculously macho, like if Cold Steel were self-aware.

They perform just fine for the casual bullshit almost everyone uses their knife for, and they are strong contenders in a dick measuring contest over who happens to be carrying the coolest knife.
