Hey /k/, I'm looking for an entry-tier pocket light. Will the Streamlight 66118 do?
>>
I like my Microstream. 35 lumens is plenty for any sort of tasks close at hand. 65 would be plenty good.

However, the size/shape being a pen doesn't really interest me as I have the light in my back pocket... may bend or break sitting on it.

I think I may move up to the Protac 2L

TLDR If you are ok with the pen shape go ahead, Streamlight stuff is good

Used this at work as a welder for 2 years straight getting rained on with hot sparks, and took it camping a shit load.

10/10 still works great
>>
What about entry-tier pocket knives? Any recommendations there?
>>
>>27958615
Any kershaw. I dunno if a griptillian would really be entry, or mid to high tier, but the griptillian mini is fantastic.

fenix e05

Pretty much any kershaw on amazon. I have a flash II i think. Ive had it for so long i cant remember. $25 so if it gets lost or breaks then its no problem to replace.
>>
>>27958615
Just about anything kershaw. Avoid tanto blades and half serrated blades
>>
>>27958384
if thats the one you can charge with usb, its great. i use it almost everyday

>>27958711
Two aa's. The microstream uses one.

Spyderco. I used to be a big fan of the Benchmade axis lock, and I liked the Kershaw torsion bar too. However, I broke a torsion bar after 6 months or so, not sure how but I flicked it open and heard a snap and there went my spring assist and the more I handled the Axis lock the less I trusted it.

Its speed and smoothness is awesome, and I think alot of reports of its failure are unfounded by people who just want to hate on benchmade. However--- there is one commonality for most of the dislike-- the omega springs. The locking mechanism itself is solid, but the shitty piano wire omega springs are the only thing that tension the lock. If they fail, the lock is more or less useless. When my Kershaw torsion bar broke, the liner still worked fine (however this isn't a surprise since it has nothing to do with the spring assist)

I used to hate Spyderco, but the more I decided I liked simpler knives the more they grew on me for their liners, spine locks and the the Paramilitary 2's compression lock-- it is much better than the axis for a quick high end lock style IMO. Also their blade shapes (outside of some of their stupid ones) with the leaf style are very easy to sharpen

Can't go wrong with any of Kershaws liners and frame locks (I enjoy the Blur for about 60 bucks). For Spyderco the Delica.

For super entry-tier, I loved my Kershaw OSO Sweet for 15 bucks. The Cr13MOV or whatever the cheapo chinese steel is doesn't hold an edge great, but it is easy to sharpen and soft enough you wont chip it doing things you shouldnt really be using a pocket knife for.
