Even though they're still good, there was a time when Arsenal was pretty much the top of e line for AKs. Back when they had the SGL series that were basically professionally converted SAIGA rifles. Which are manufactured in the same factory as military rifles in Russia.

So yes, as a base rifle, they are some of the best. How good of a converted AK it is depends on who's doing it. And ever since the sanctions were placed on Russia, they have not been imported. So the price has shot up.

I'm not sure what you mean by converted, but as far as price is concerned I think $580 is about on par with the market, certainly cheaper than a new Century AK.

My both my DDI/WW made 74 and my converted saiga are great.

DDI is about to release their brand new AK74s though which are looking really good.

Interesting, I have only heard bad things about about that company but I guess they are hit and miss, not unlike century. How do you like the 74 overall? Do you have a 7.62 AK to compare it with? I'm curious as to how the round feels/performs.

My M70 on the bottom is in 7.62 and I also have an SKS. I like both rounds but prefer 5.45 over 7.62.

Waffen Works is not DDI. DDI bought what was left of WW after they went out of business and really turned things around. They make some really good AKs at a mid range price. Also, Century has actually been pretty decent since 2008.

Looks like they haven't threaded it yet, hasn't been converted to take standard AK hand guards, not sure if bullet guide has been installed. When it comes to SAIGAs that haven't been converted by a well known company such as Arsenal, you want to examine it to see what all has been done and what still needs work.

I personally don't deal with SAIGAs that haven't been fully converted and don't mess around with the process myself. But if you're looking for a 5.45 AK and have a somewhat limited budget, there's very few options compared to the 7.62 offerings. Know what to look for and check the rifle before buying it.

To answer your question about the muzzle. Saiga's muzzles are not threaded. You can just get a FSB that has the threads. I bought a bulgy parts kit to convert my saiga.

Unfortunately I have experienced century shittyness first hand (pic related, heavily canted sights, literally 0 headspace)

They made it right in the end though, I've had about 800 rounds through the unfucked one J&G sent me, headspace holding within tolerances, even within the optimal range specified by HK

My furniture is actual Russian furniture, not the bright purple stuff from KVAR. You can generally find it for less than $100 on ebay.

The unfortunate part of the rifle in the OP is that the rear of the rifle is much easier to convert than the front. To fully convert the front you need to press off the gas block and FSB and press and pin on new ones. You'd also need an actual lower handguard retainer and a new gas tube.

Just make sure that the bullet guide has been installed before you get it.

Also bear in mind you are going to need to modify it to take the standard plum 74 handguards.
