So I've been looking through some stuff recently and am quite confused. I know the RC-135, EP-3E, and RC-7B all perform ELINT missions and potentially other EW missions but I really do not know much more about the area. First of all what is the difference between ELINT and SIGINT and secondly what is the difference between the Army, Air Force, and Navy platforms for these missions and why do they vary so much from service to service?

ELINT can be from any electronic device that puts out an electromagnetic signature. This can include microwaves, generators, etc. SIGINT is limited to communications systems. These are often electronic but could include things like carrier pigeons or eavesdropping on oral communications.

Came to post basically this, not going to post anything specific to platforms, capabilities or missions on fucking 4chan. Interesting and fun topic, but loltreason.

Also these food captchas are hard. Is cake bread? Is that chicken or fish in the deep fryer?
>>
>>27915896
Ok then could I ask whether there were distinct missions for the various platforms or if the differences were more due to service and the platforms available to them at the time.

If you could answer that without violating the espionage act that'd be very appreciated.

Also, yeah captchas are a bitch

Why do you ask?
>>
>>27915932
You prob should just wiki search each plane with public data to see whats out there. No one could tell you anymore than what you can google about. Look online @ wikipedi

I keep trying to skirt a line between general enough to not fuck up and specific enough to be useful.

I'm just going to go with no.

Cake is bread
>>
>>27916060
Yeah probably the best way to go... Thanks though! Don't wanna be cliche as fuck but thanks for helping the chair force with it's very important peacetime missions.

Which I say with a mixture of seriousness and sarcasm just for the record... Which is to say we all know who does the real ELINT collection for the country ;) but still thanks for what you do.
>>
>>27916106
You like Navy elint platforms better than airforce?
>>
>>27916083
Yeah sorry I can't be useful, a lot of overlap in ELINT platforms and anything that can differentiate them outside of airframe specs (and I don't know that shit, worked more on the payload side of this conversation and other platforms, but like I said, overlap) shouldn't really be on the chans.

Vague sooper secret squirrel faggot from above.
The shit they do with subs is way cooler, hands down.
>>
>>27916122
I mean I would guess that Air Force platforms can simply collect more due to their altitude but Navy platforms can get access to more sensitive stuff simply by virtue of the fact that it's not always easy to know if they are present... For the other guy that is. I have literally no clearance yet though and I have no idea how accurate this is.
>>
>>27916130
All good just hope one of these days I find my way into some sort of intel analysis billet or something and I can actually do some of this stuff for myself...
>>
>>27916160
ELINT planes and satelites don't tap cables and deploy UUVs for harbor infiltration though...
>>
>>27916179
Not what I was talking about. Lol
>>
>>27916171
Good luck, ELINT in general has been sort of dead since the soviet's fell, but it's probably going to start seeing a little more focus with China releasing more new systems aand Russia getting uppity.

COMINT is a fun field and has definitely been the focus in our current conflicts.
>>
PARPRO missions were a lot of fun, We would go up into and around the Sea of O and mess with N.Korea China and Soviets all on same mission. They were joint Navy and Air Force. Being Navy (P-3) we we the bait. You can look up PARPRO in goodle these days, 40 years ago thy would lock you up for saying the word outside a secure space.
>>
>>27916719

there are still words that you can't say outside a SCIF.

>>27915932

both of those answers are correct.
