Looking into buying my first gun for home defense. I was thinking about

http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/411551209/500+1218.5+SYN+SHORT+STOCK

I would plan on putting a shell saddle and a tactical light on it, would that be wise? I was also looking into handguns but they are more expensive and I don't have a CCW permit.

I would like an AK or AR type rifle but I live in an urban area and am afraid of overpenetration.

Also sometimes i'm drunk in my apartment at night, how would I go about defending myself when i'm all fucked up? It's legal right? I mean i'm not retarded but I don't know. I figured shotgun would be better to not miss while shitfaced, but i don't want to like half-rack the slide and fuck my shit up.

#4 buckshot or 00? Or something else?

Overpenetration is BS. Anything that will kill a person will penetrate through multiple walls. Deal with it and don't miss.

You are right in that shotguns are difficult to operate compared to rifles in a high stress situation or when you are tired, groggy, or drunk. Shotguns are especially difficult and slow to reload when compared to rifles or pistols.

Standard 00 is probably best with a shotgun.
>>
>>27904846
>my first gun for home defense

and you want a shotgun ? hello ?

go to your local gun range and take the $100 intro class get good info get to shoot many different pistols revolvers

then buy a good S&W 38 shoot it for awhile and if you still like guns you can trade it in for a good semi-auto
>>
>>27904924
Shotguns are objectively better for home defense situations than handguns, especially if you're like OP and don't know wtf you're doing.
>>
>>27904924

I've shot a few pistols, 9mm and .45 but never a revolver. So you're saying i should buy a pistol instead of a shotgun even for home defense? I don't live in a real bad area but it would be nice to get a concealed carry permit and be able to take it somewhere if I need it.

What pistols would you recommend? I have a budget of about $450. Someone said the SD9 VE was good and cheap for what you get. What about the kel-tec pf9?
>>
>>27904940

>objectively more recoil with a handgun
>objectively lower capacity than a handgun
>objectively more complex manipulations than a handgun
>objectively requiring two hands to fire and operate

Yep, shotguns are better in every way.
>>
>>27904945
>What pistols would you recommend?

take the $100 class

$450 won't go very far because after you buy the gun you will need a minimum of 5 trips to the range shooting 50 rounds to get familiar with it and that will cost another $200 or so

start with a revolver easier to learn unless you're already a gun nut get a nicer semi-auto
>>
Get an H and R protector, its a perfect 870 clone for a cheaper price becuse it's assembled in England, not the US.
>>
>>27904973
if you have to take more than one shot in an HD situation, you fucked up, and a shotgun will kill or stop someone if you hit them anywhere, handguns may not instantly incapacitate the threat, and capacity is not an issue, if you have to reload in an hd situation, again, you fucked up
>>
>>27904973
kek. Load the round and pump it. And when you're a newgunz like OP, using two hands is usually a good thing. All I know is that in the dead of night during a potential break in, I'd feel a lot better with my shotgun. Easy to load, easy to fire, hard to miss.
>>
>>27904846
>Afraid of overpenetration

Buckshot and slugs both overpenetrate. M193 was rejected by NATO because it didn't go through barriers. Your choice.

Shotgun it is then? How is the 500 I posted in the OP? Good for the price? What do you faggots recommend for modifications and ammo type?

What kind of gun do you faggots use for defending your home at night?
>>
>>27905118

Didn't realize I said "you faggots" twice in that post
>>
>>27905118
500 is gtg, but you can get a 590, which is the same thing, but you can mount a bayonet to it, to increase defensive capabilities

>>
OP, get a Glock 20, load with JHP +P.

Put in night stand.

You probably won't follow this advice. But in 5 years you'll understand, once you learn about the superiority of 10mm.
>>
>>27905147

Is a sling good or one of those straps that goes below the pump action around your hand?

Do pistol grips help reduce recoil or aid in pumping capabilities?
>>
>>27905231
in my limited shotgun experience
>never used a sling with a shotgun
>never used a forend strap
>pistol grips hurt your wrist when firing high velocity loads, but help you stay on target with follow up shots

imo the magpul stock has the best angle for your wrist, and if you are gonna get a pistol grip stock, get a knox specops stock

#4 buck
Anything even birdshot will overpenetrate. An AR will only overpenetrate in one path, a home defense shotgun will overpenetrate in a cone of death.
don't get a pistol grip only shotgun

Spend $20 and get a keyed doorknob for your apartment closet too. No one will give a shit and it's fully reversible.
>>
>>27905310
There is.
+p simply means over standard pressure. Some cartridges have a +p standard as well so +p+ is used to refer to the ammo over even the +p pressure.
>>
>>27905587

10mm is already like 40000 CUP. Don't be a fucking retard.
>>
>>27905118
I use a 500 myself. Pistol grip, retractable stock, and a flashlight mounted.
>>
>>27905587
+p would be extremely unsafe in 10MM, it would probably kill or maim you
>>
>>27905587
Show me some +p 10mm then.

He's probably just some faggot nogunz, but I have seen full power 10mm boxes labeled as "+P" before. It's wrong, but it's been sold.

Supernova, buy once cry once. They aren't even that ugh more than a good 870 or 590
>>
>>27905723
As have I.
Doesn't make it true, though.
Elite Ammunition used the +p but had this disclaimer, denoting that it was full strength stuff as opposed to the general watered down 10mm Lite that is sold by others.

>EA recognizes that SAAMI does not officially list a +P rating for 10mm. EA does though to stress the fact that these are full power 10mm loads and recommends both higher rated recoil and firing pin springs.

180 grain jhp over 6.5 of 231.
Definitely over pressure and pretty good at knocking over steel plates and bowling pins.
>>
>>27905809
Yep

"Standard" 10mm being weaker than proper 10mm pisses me off to no end.
>>
>step 1: get a rifle
>step 2: master it as you master your life
although in your case it seems evident that we need to add
>step 0: master your life

America is not a nation of pistolmen. America is not a nation of shotgunmen. A rifle served your fathers and it can serve you too, if you are man enough to take it up.

GOT IT, LOVE IT.too damn heavy though.
>>
>>27905849
So you loaded some hot 10mm.
Swamp Fox had nuclear loads, they still weren't +p.
+p is a SAAMI spec, and they don't have a rating for +p 10mm as it's considered unsafe.
Nice load though, might have to give it a try.
What gun are you shooting it out of?
What kind of velocities are you getting?
>>
>>27905853
Me too.
Underwood 10mm has always been my go to for store bought ammo, and they're in my home state so it's only a day away when shipped.
>>
>>27905966
+p is not a SAAMI spec. It simply means that the load is outside of normal SAAMI pressures.
>>
>>27904973
not to mention going deaf
>>
>>27905966
Ruger Blackhawk. Not a clue on velocity as I didn't have a chrony at the time.
>>
>>27905542
>Has the Arcus 98DA

t-thanks anon for not leaving out my gun

n-nobody believes me that it is good.
>>
>>27904846
The Mossberg is a fine choice. Definitely put a light on it, fuck the side saddle. Load it with some good #1 buck.
