Subahibi spoilers.

With that out of the way, was this in the original version or has herkz meme'd us?
>>
Explain why you write SubaHibi with lower-case H. It is a combination of two capitalized words, Subarashiki Hibi, just like any other shortened title such as SukiSuki or SakuSaku.
>>
>>17574882
By Sekai Project 2030.
>>
>>17575188
Japanese doesn't have capital letters or spaces in the first place, so there's nothing really wrong with typing SubaHibi as subahibi. It's just less confusing for English speakers that use the shortening.
>>
>>17575567
I see no Japanese in this thread. You do?
>>
>>17575188
Who gives a shit. Contain your autism.
>>
Suba Hibi has Yuuki and Yuki as two recurrent characters. Imagine if arunaru translated it instead.
>>
arunaru did nothing wrong
>>
>>17574863
Imopara 2 has entered beta testing and Sorcery Jokers has entered scripting.
>>
>>17575627
I doubt he'd translate them both the same, since it would confuse who the characters are. It's just when there's only one Yuki it doesn't really matter.
>>
>>17575658
No, he simply hates double u with burning passion.
>>
>>17575684
Constantly complaining about a missing u is just as weird. Seriously, it's pretty creepy how much you care about this.
>>
>>17575706
You wouldn't want to be called Anonymos instead of Anonymous, would you?
>>
Is the White Album 2 translation shitty or full mtled?
>>
>>17575717
This is some next level autism. Just give it up, you won't convince any VN localizer to change their localization choices ever. And it's not like everyone doesn't have their personal preferences either. So, it's best to just let it go, unless you want to seem crazy.
>>
>>17575725
You would be complaining too if they renamed the character from Yuuki to Jane. You just don't realize that this is exactly the same.
>>
>>17575743
It doesn't matter about Yuuki or Yuki in English, because without the Japanese characters in the writing the names have no meaning anyway. Romanization can also be handled different ways, there are no rules set in stone as much as you wish there was.
>>
>>17575725
It is better for all of us because it establishes precendent that proves that people do care about name choices. It might force them to think more about localizing names in the future wich is a good thing even if you and i care little in this particular case.
>>
>>17575767
>It might force them to think more about localizing names in the future
It won't. The translators have their own opinions and they won't bend to nitpicking, because they'd set a precedent for just bending to any complaint someone could come up with. That kind of thinking is restrictive.

>even if you and i care little in this particular case.
Which just shows most people don't really care that much. It wouldn't surprise me if they already wrote Yuki-anon off as some random nut or troll. Acting up like he has doesn't make his argument any more compelling. Why would they want to encourage such behavior of whining and twitter stalking translators just to nag them?
>>
>>17575779
>It wouldn't surprise me if they already wrote Yuki-anon off as some random nut or troll.
Pretty sure they already do. Kouryuu himself gave his thoughts on the matter and his response is basically "But Yuki means snow!".
>>
>>17575779
You trying to stick nametags on everything wich is not the best way to handle discussion. ''Bend to nitpicking'' can be sold of as listening to your core audience. Wich from PR perspective is not a bad thing. In the end of the day constant conplaying on twitter, forum, 4chin or w/e else is bad. The less people complaying about your merchandise the better it is for you. Even one ''nut or troll'' can have enough negative infuence on your image if he never shut up and persistent enough.
>>
>>17575826
No, the response is Yuuki and Yuki are two different names. Kouryuu (Koryu as written by arunaru) didn't even react to any of the arguments. He just came and said that translators = gods and their preferences must be respected. That's understandable in a fan TL group, but is complete bullshit in corporate setting.
>>
>>17575841
The thing is that both of those names are translated as Yuki in the professional field, much like how Yuuri was translated as Yuri for Yuri on Ice. It's one of the three valid ways of romanization.
>>
In the end what looks more cute: u or uu
>>
Thanks to Doddler I'll never read Rei and Kira.
>>
>>17573342
Could anyone please answer this?
>>
>>17575848
>professional field
Romanization as used by the Japanese themselves, and people who religiously go by what bullshit they think of, is not what I would call "professional field". The Japanese don't understand romanization.
I don't watch fujoshit shows, but isn't Yuri a slav (russian)? In that case, Yuri would be correct romanization, even if it's written as ユーリ and has long pronunciation in Japanese, because the slav name is supposed to be pronounced with a short u.
>>
>>17575888
Both of the main characters are named Yuri. One of them is Russian (ユーリ) and the other is Japanese (勇利)
>>
>>17575830
> In the end of the day constant conplaining on twitter, forum, 4chin or w/e else is bad.
Not when it's obviously one very obsessed person doing it. Which it very obviously is in the case of Yuki-anon.
>>
>>17575830
>Even one ''nut or troll'' can have enough negative infuence on your image if he never shut up and persistent enough.
I hope no one is delusional enough to believe this. Everyone just starts mocking or ignoring the person, because they get sick of hearing about it. It's just like when that one guy kept complaining about the new Satoko sprite in Higurashi. They're just a pest.

>>

>>
>>17576036
Not an argument.
>>
>>17576036
>>17576023
Romanization has nothing to do with Japanese.
>>
>>17576046
Adding this: If you think for even one moment that Japanese are capable of using latin alphabet (Japanese alphabet->latin alphabet is romanization, if you don't understand), then look through this thread.
https://boards.fireden.net/a/thread/151859826
It's not natural for them. It is something foreign to them. They have their own alphabet, just like we have ours.

So has anyone gotten far into Subahibi's English TL? I've seen some complaints about some slight errors near the beginning, but is there anything major that might impact understanding the plot?
>>
>>17576927
I'm nearing the end of the third chapter, and I haven't found anything major yet. That said, I don't have Takuji's voice on, so I can't really check his lines.
>>
>>17576950

Adding in the Backerkit total to date, the crowdfunding for Subahibi is up to $117.7k, so it shouldn't have problems reaching the $120k stretch goal before Backerkit closes at the end of the month. Seperately, Subahibi today reached a peak of 134 concurrent users on Steam, although once again much of that is going to be Kickstarter backers so it is hard compare that number to other titles. Review wise, there are 21 English reviews on Steam to date, 10 that appear to be by Kickstarter backers and the remainder being from new purchases on Steam so it has made some new sales to English community. In addition, there are 76 non-English reviews (nearly all Chinese), so it has been finding some traction with a Chinese audience. Of the 97 overall reviews, just one of those is negative so I would think people actually playing through the title are generally finding the patch, nevertheless I'd be curious what proportion of buyers have downloaded the patch as Steam achievements from other VNs have generally suggested plenty of individuals who purchase longer VNs don't end up actually playing through much of the VN.

Sakura Sakura is up to $12.5k, so it has reached the half way point of its $24k goal with 15 days remaining. It has been averaging a few hundred a day recently, so it will need to get a decent boost relative to its progress thus far during its final stretch in order to reach its goal. That said, it seems likely that they'll manage to get over the finish line, even if it isn't by all that much. They seem to be looking to increase their PR reach, as they put on Twitter they'll be doing some sort of interview with some game site. Although even if they reach their goal, they'll probably have a hard time making much of a profit considering the wide array of physical goods that would be created in small numbers, and the title doesn't seem destined to be a big hit on Steam down the road.

Looking back at W Happiness a month in, its running Steamspy numbers suggest between 1-2k on Steam (more likely closer to 1k than 2k). They will of course be complimented by strong looking sales through the MG store, and the title was likely a success for MG, although it will likely be a considerable dropoff from the original (but that is something that always would have been expected).

>>
>>17583102
MG is currently trying to shift the demographics of eroge so they can eliminate nukige all together. They will deny this by saying they still license nukige but this is a cover; they are thinking long term and stopping all at once would lead to outrage and bankruptcy before their new preferred customers are ready. It is up to us to stop their villainy.

Nah, no way MG could do that even if they wanted to. I don't expect anything but 18+ yaoi or otoge to sell well for MG. Aksys has been licensing a lot of all ages otoge. Ozmafia got enough to get a hard copy, but that's only because it got a footing on Steam, something MG can't really rely on. Even then, it's probably still not comparable to Rance VI, which doesn't have the benefit of Steam and is sex heavy enough to be considered a nukige by the market.

>>
>>17586510
But why would you do this after you announced the release date? That's retarded. What if something goes wrong, like what just happened?
>>
>>17586708
Considering what we know about Sekai's project management then it is not so surprising.
Without going far into the past or looking at physical reward problems from Kickstarters, two fairly recent releases both had problems and delays
Wagmama - delayed just before release because they found a memory leak
Chrono Clock - rushed out the door at 84% edited and also late
>>
>>17586898
The uncensored art situation for Chrono Clock is also incredibly embarrassing for Sekai. Sekai didn't even try to get the uncensored art for the game, which was proven when they were straight up called out on it by Mangagamer, who showed off the uncensored CG for Hapymaher immediately after Sekai confirmed their release would retain mosaics. It took Sekai nearly half a year after release to patch in the unfinished editing and to put in the uncensored art.

This sounds kind of retarded. Unless you don't announce a project until it's basically done you can't realistically give a timeframe.
>>

>We want to provide quick, high-quality translations with no delays
Quick and high quality for translations usually means picking one or the other, otherwise the work is rushed and sloppy. And how do they plan to know exactly when something is read to release by the time they announce it? They don't sound like they know what they're doing. It sounds more like fanboys who always complain about translations suddenly decided they knew how to run a business.

One of the things we disliked the most is when a title is announced but no time frames are given. There’s nothing more frustrating than seeing “Coming Soon” for six months or even longer.

I'm sure this is taking issue with others, be it the long times that MG/Sekai see or the time frames with Sekai not holding up, but this seems like an impossible ideal to uphold more than a month or two out. Programming time tends to be quite unpredictable thanks to custom engines that are often barely held together even for the Japanese release, not to mention the difficulties that often come in getting an engine to work outside of a Japanese locale, even if the translation and editing finish on time.

>To us, having paid patches is the equivalent of day-one DLC. Basically, content that was originally in the game was removed in order to be sold, and that’s just not cool. Why should you pay extra for a part of the original game? You’d get the content free and clear if you purchased the untranslated version, so our mentality is “don’t charge extra for the complete product.”

This is an obvious dig at Sekai (and to a lesser degree Frontwing). Few are fans of such patches, but they do seem to be profitable considering that when given the choice between off Steam release or paid patch people seem to prefer paid patches, and paid patches have been quite successful at increasing the average pledge of Kickstarters while maintaining a cheaper Steam price. Nevertheless, the industry has been somewhat moving away from paid patches thanks to Steam policies treating free patches as mods, so they aren't going to be alone there.

How exactly is it grasping at straws? At no point did I say that it's a bad translation. I like the translation and I like the localization. But that doesn't mean there are no errors. That's why I've been posting what I've found.
You can see in the picture that he reacts to the fact that she used satsuki for May. Having "if you use the old calendar" when you use the new calendar in the TL is ridiculous.
A = new way to say something
B = old way to say something
Person 1 says B.
Person 2 points out that saying B is unusual.
They changed the first part, but kept the second part as is.
>>
>>17593503
How do you think they should have translated it? It seems to me this is a cultural reference that doesn't translate, since we only have one word for May. In a book this would probably have a footnote explaining it. Regardless, the gist of what they're saying is still there. It's certainly not an error.

By the end of the day these threads are still , even with shitposting and off topic posts, mainly about upcoming/new releases and news and events related to them.

The VN threads of /vg/? A complete and utter mess. Even relative to /jp/.
Those threads are as if you were to compress just about all of /jp/, then sprinkle some Reddit in there, into one never ending chain of threads. An entire board's worth in one chain of threads.

I've really never understood the point of those threads very well. There's a dedicated board for VNs, /jp/. And yet people would rather all cram together in one single chain of threads all huddled up together. Than to make use of an entire board about VNs. Because apparently /jp/ is just that "yucky" and yet they make use of all the /jp/ memes and jokes. Even outright remaking old /jp/ infographs and whatnot while erasing any mention of /jp/. Basically bringing /jp/ with them into /vg/ while still claiming that /jp/ is too messed up for them or whatever other nonsense they say. There's a special kind of irony to that.

But it also feels really inefficient. Trying to discuss a lesser popular title when a much more popular title is taking all the spotlight is nigh pointless. And since everything is always in one thread frequent spoilers from titles you may not have gotten to yet are always posted, though I've gotten the impression that the typical frequenter of those threads don't seem to mind spoilers much. But it's really hard for me to see any advantages whatsoever to forcing all discussion into a singular chain of threads as opposed to utilizing a dedicated board capable of housing however many threads needed just about.
I mean just about the only reason VNs were even moved to /vg/ in the first place was because Katawa Shoujo threads pretty much outnumbered every all the other threads of /jp/ combined at any given time because for some reason they just needed that many simultaneous threads. And dealing with that may very well have been a good idea, but I still have never really understood the point of having all VN discussions there. Even on /vg/ Katawa Shoujo isn't in the same chain of threads as the other VNs. Though if the people frequenting the VN threads really despise /jp/ that much for whatever the reason I guess that they're simply better off not being here. That said, I do feel like /jp/ lost a lot of its life blood with the creation of /vg/. And not even simply in regards with the VN related topics. It's like /jp/ fell in relevance a bit and had a drop of varying degrees in most of the topics on the entire board.
>>
>>17595045
>There's a dedicated board for VNs, /jp/. And yet people would rather all cram together in one single chain of threads all huddled up together.
It used to be the case that people would post threads in /jp/, but people would call them EOPs, shitpost in their threads, and tell them to go to /vg/. Which they did.
>>
>>17595100
People are still called EOPs even in /vg/ though and there's rampant shitposting.
Besides anything new and or popular will get shitposted. Shitposting still calms down with time however.

So I really am baffled by how that little was enough to make all of them scram.
>>
>>17595045
>I've really never understood the point of those threads very well. There's a dedicated board for VNs, /jp/. It is the mix of lack of population while still wanting active threads. The /vn/ thread has maybe 100 unique IPs posting per thread which is not really enough to sustain spreading across a whole board if you also want some activity in your thread. Even /vn/ itself has times where it is hanging around page 9 or 10 during more quiet times.
In the end /vn/ ends up being one of the most active places on the net that talks about VNs (though that does not mean it has good quality discussion) and that is why people use the thread. Some people just like to have their post replied to within a reasonable time frame or be able to discuss something years after a release and still get a bit of discussion out of it without waiting a day for someone else who cares about it, though I don't personally mind myself.

>>
>>17594509
>>17595440
>>17595506
The meaning is already communicated in the current translation. The second sentence which refers to the old calendar shows the poetic intent behind the first sentence. I honestly don't see what the problem is. Knowing that she used a different word for the month isn't necessary and it isn't worth jumping through these kinds of hoops to communicate it.
>>
>>17595556
The second sentence tells of the poetic intent that the first sentence was supposed to convey, but doesn't. It reads more B saying that May can be poetic if you use the old calendar (which doesn't make sense in English) rather than saying that A was saying something poetically.

If I were to give it a go, I would have A giving May a very poetic or fancy description like "month of emeralds" or "Maia's month" with B replying that even if you make May sound sorta poetic, it doesn't change the fact that it's dreary.

The English pc patch compared to the DS for Tsukihime has an age difference. Last time I checked Prism ark wasn't happening because Aroduc needed Doddler to fix up the tools more (not even sure if they are fully complete with all the extra work Doddler recently has done on them and aroduc might be too proud to use his work now after the Baldr mess) and Bunny Black 3 wasn't happening because the extracted scripts read like ass making them tedious to work on and Aroduc didn't like the game as much as the first two. I remember him asking for others to help in some blog post out but no one came forward.
Oh, and obviously him doing Bladr Sky isn't happening because Sekai. Though he could still secretly do Force I suppose to undercut Sky if he wanted, just I think he said he gave up on that before because of blue screen problems due to the engine being ass with modern Windows.
I expect his translating days are over for now, unless he is rusing everyone and doing a super secret project on his own now he doesn't trust anyone.

><TakaJun> I want to kill myself for putting my real name in the games when I first started playing eroge

I miss TakaJun. I wonder what he's doing nowadays.

But I still do that, should I just kill myself?

I don't see how you could be doing that. There are very few translated eroge where you can put your name as the protagonist - https://vndb.org/v/all?q=a&fil=tag_inc-203.tagspoil-0.lang-en.olang-ja&rfil=type-complete.minage-18&s=rel&o=d
Unless you mean putting your actual name as part of the translation team in credits.

Giga themselves is releasing Modern OS-compatible versions of the old Baldr games, so he might go back to that.

Was talking about To Heart 2 in this case but I remember doing it on Toushin Toushi 2 too.

How would you translate these messages? Not sure where in the game they show up.

355("p \"ここ1\"")
355("p \"ここ1-1\"")
355("p \"ここ2\"")
355("p \"ここ2-1\"")

He doesn't like half the shit he works on. Didn't like Kamidori, didn't like Baldr Sky.

The pleasure of being cummed inside.

So maybe something like
CumLove 1-1
CumLove 2
CumLove 2-1
CumLove End
?

Doddler's work can't be used as long as he's agreed to and abiding by Sekai Project's contract terms.
>>
>>17607790
Only thing that would affect is baldr force, and that's been mostly hacked for years.
>>
>>17607729
I think there's a difference between being critical of and not liking it. He mostly speaks fondly of Kamidori in his review of Amayui and of Kamidori itself. I can understand that working on it might have been a nightmare, so maybe that's more of it.

Could always "leak" it.
