Sakura Sakura isn't off to a great start, but if it gets a modest average of 600 per day starting from the 30 mark, it will succeed.

As for Subahibi, the 120k stretch wil probably be made with even a lower than average final rush. 180k is pretty unlikely on the other hand.
>>
>>17507590
>Lucky Dog - Possible iOS released based on the ongoing text only fanTL

Maybe one day...
>>
>>17507663
I'm glad that if they don't hit the 180k stretch goal, they'll at least be translating the manga the game would have been based on.
>>
Have they still not given a date for SubaHibi? The end of August is like 11 days from now
>>
>>17508526
They won't release it until the Kickstarter is finished and they have time to allow people to lock down their pledges in Backerkit. They decided to make it a 25 day Kickstarter (instead of the normal 30 days) so it would end with a handful of days left in August, and thus they are probably aiming for a release at the very end of the month.

Chapter 5 when?
>>
>>17508941
I will give them $500,000 if they remake it as 18+.
>>
>>17508941
>MG still not admitting that shittipara was a mistake
Literally auticstiŅ obsession.
>>
>>17508941
Never.
They really should just give it up, but if they are going to keep pretending that it might happen they would be better off just launching a proper Kickstarter over the current funding method. With that then the people who really do care could get some nice merch out of it and if it fails then they can finally throw in the towel without dragging it out for the next 5+ years.

>>17508959
Might be Minori that is the one that keeps pushing it and MG is complying since they probably aren't losing much with following along.
>>
>>17508973
>they would be better off just launching a proper Kickstarter
They're still 450k away from the goal for chapter 5. I don't see Supipara raising that much on kickstarter given it's not a popular title. Add on kickstarter and reward production fees and it makes the goal even higher.
>>
>>17508959
MG really has nothing to lose here though. If minori wants to continue with it, they just put it up and continue onward.
>>
>>17508991
If they fund it chapter by chapter there might be a slim chance. Adding in physical rewards (maybe include some some other Minori stuff) helps bump up the amount people will put towards things.
Is far more likely to go somewhere than relying on more sales of Minori titles. We are only where we are now because eden* ended up a surprise success and it has still taken years.
>>
>>17508526
They're doing an AMA on r/visualnovels tonight so they might say something then.
>>
>>17509015
Now that chapter 2's fully translated we won't hear much until the $350k goal is reached. minori isn't supposed to even start development on chapter 3 until then. So we've got a few years with no Supipara.
>>
>>17509015
>MG really has nothing to lose here though
They still wasting translator time on this shit no one cares about instead of something more popular. Fuck Minori and their obsession with Supipara.
>>
>>17509089
Like >>17509060 said, after chapter 2, there wouldn't be anyone wasted on Supipara for years so it doesn't really matter.

Chapter 2 was always going to be a thing anyway, so the faster they get it out of the way the better.
>>
>>17509089
>wasting translator time
Chapter 2 was originally part of chapter 1 in the Jap release from what I remember reading so it wouldn't surprise me if it was done at the same time just locked behind the goal.

>>
>>17508941
They should really make the later chapters of Supipara 18+.
>>
>>17509221
Just make the scenes as lewd as modern minori and it should sell pretty well.
>>
>>17509293
even with lewd it would still be a shit game.

Doesn't stop the dozen other shit games with lewd from selling well though.
>>
>>17509165
>This was before even the 1st editing check.
An editor isn't going to catch incorrect translation. Their job is to make text flow well in English, not make sure the text is accurate. This sounds like a fuwanovel project.
>>
>>17509344
>fuwanovel
Too soon.
>>
>>17509344
However, as editors make things flow better it will be unnoticable for readers and perfect localization.

At least publishers seem to think this way.
>>
I finished the rest of Higurashi since chapter 5 came out and the new version of 6 still isn't fucking out. Fuck MG.
>>
SukiSuki never ever
>>
>>17509017
A Supipara KS just isn't going to make 150k on KS. In any case, since 150k is what minori's gross profit needs to be, a KS project would need to have a goal bigger than that to reach it. Relying on other minori games is a better strategy, even if it relies on those minori games being surprise hits.

>>17509089
The translator is a minorifag. It's not like MG is forcing him.
>>
So I just finished Kara no Shoujo and want another VN. All I ever hear about G-senjou no Maou is praise but I tried playing it a few years back and was bored out of my mind playing through the character routes. According to Sekai's biggest shill (seriously, what the fuck is wrong with that guy) they're fully in-tact.

Whether or not you believe that is another thing altogether.
>>
>>17511052
Yeah...I'll believe that when I see it, not when some shill assures me it's gonna happen. Like they'd actually tell him if they were gonna cut content anyway.
Lolis in general are a touchy subject, but then you have Reina, who looks like a goddamn 6-year-old. I doubt the whole "b-b-b-but they're really trains, guyz" excuse will work if the shit hits the fan, and I can't imagine any sane company would open themselves up to that risk.
>>
>>17511195
The deep weeb crowd doesn't give a shit, the shallow weeb crowd is dumb trendseekers who might buy "that edgy pedo game", and if it blows up into Rapelay 2 then they'll get sales off that.
There's no downside for them.
>>
>>17511214
>if it blows up into Rapelay 2 then they'll get sales off that.
No, if it blows up into Rapelay 2, I doubt Valve would allow them to keep even the all-ages version up for sale. Depending on how bad it got, it could damage their relationship with Valve, which could potentially be a deathblow to SP, seeing how little they've invested in their own distribution platform.

I doubt that any of that will happen, but that's why I think that they'll cut content. Even the mere risk of that happening is too much.
>>
>>17511297
Valve does not particularly seem to give a shit, since they've hosted explicit porn on-site before.
And again, Valve benefits if it becomes Rapelay 2 since they'll be getting sales.
>>
>>17511304
Gaben doesn't really seem like the type to factor in political correctness, so I agree with this. Some chaos will inevitably occur though, since a some people under Gaben do factor in political correctness, such as with the Hatred incident.

I can't help but worry somewhat about Steam after Gaben is gone now that the topic is brought up though.
>>
>>17511304
No, they host patchable porn. House Party was already taken down, which I think is the only one with explicit porn without any modifications to the steam files.

Sol Press is such a disappointment. Any hype they had around them seems to have dried up. They don't sound like they know what they're doing business-wise and them not understanding how proper translation works is even worse.

Literally an amateur fan TL group that one day decided they'd become a localization company.
>>
>>17513578
>Literally an amateur fan TL group that one day decided they'd become a localization company.
That also describes Sekai Project. They did start out fan translating School Days afterall.
https://web.archive.org/web/20100208202055/http://www.sekaiproject.net/
>>
>>17513988
They admitted to almost sinking from the start, but they lucked into a meeting with the people behind Clannad and Planetarian and convinced them to give localization a try. Honestly, it was a miracle that saved them.
>>
>>17514020
Thank God for Sekai Project.
>>
>>17514040
Thank God for dovac's smart tablet or whatever it was that got their attention in the first place.
>>
>>17514040
I don't know, in an alternate universe where Sekai failed and Nekopara went over to MG instead, the Steam market might not have crashed and burned from being flooded with crappy OELVNs that devalue everything and the added income might result in more lucrative licenses, or at least the same licenses as SP but not as bad.

Baldr Sky might have already been released and Aroduc might not have to hang himself at least.
>>
>>17514078
The Steam market would've flooded with OELVNs anyway, since there were plenty of garbage ones that released that Sekai never published.

Kickstarter has resulted in some things being translated either for the first time or retranslated to be better than before, like Muv Luv. Sekai started that trend by kickstarting Clannad and Grisaia.
>>
>>17514096
And a trend of endless delays and broken promises.
>>
>>17514078
It's hard to say. I abhor Sekai, but the successful Clannad and Grisaia were a factor in making the VN industry more willing to go to the West in the first place. Well, the Steam boom probably would have happened anyways, and that would have helped convince some companies to start going into the West (like Alicesoft), but without using Kickstarter, big names like Muv Luv and Dies Irae would probably still have eluded companies like MG and JAST.

Also, while MG probably wouldn't have thrown as much money onto the OELVN industry as Sekai has and there would be less such titles around, its standards in OELVN's aren't much higher than Sekai's. They are willing to sell Sakura games so long as they do the QC after all, and they were perfectly willing to be a third party seller for Dharker Studio titles.
>>
>>17514078
As soon as Steam opened the floodgates and began allowing everything, a flood of low quality OELVNs was inevitable because they were selling and they require relatively low resources to develop, something that would have been true with or without Sekai.. Additionally, the flood of indie titles with relatively low budgets was hardly limited to VN, the effects were just somewhat more pronounced with VNs thanks to them being easier to create than other genres.
>>
>>17514078
Have you taken a look at DMM or dlsite?

True that some localization companies have an image/brand problem because of mixing good titles with shovelware EOVN. But that doesn't excuse the distribution platforms (like Steam) from accepting any kind of kusoge.

>>17514127 Well, what he said.
In Steam the effect is doubled, since you have people who just collect games for the hell of it, without care for its quality.
>>
>>17514145
While it's true that Steam's own policies were probably the biggest reason for the rise in OELVN shovelware, I feel like SP helped too like you mentioned from mixing in good titles with OELVNs. The added press and publicity they had combined with their mixing might have spread the idea of making OELVNs further than it would normally do. The idea of "if this guy can make it, so can I" attitude that comes from being featured.

MG was also very open with the OELVN titles, being the former hosts of the Sakura games and Dharker Studio titles, but there wasn't an impact with them either. I admit, it is probably because it was pre-Steam boom and if they continued hosting them until the Steam boom arrived, the same thing probably would have occurred too.
>>
>>17509165
That is so weird. I would have written the first as "so by the way, could that be you?"

The other one is confusing at the end and I can understand the mistakes. But this is bad though.

I don't know. The shit with Kohaku in Tsukihime was fine with me. I think it depends how the issue is treated.
>>
>>17521026
When they say every backer does that count the $1 tier? I'd buy the game instantly if I could.
>>
>>17521218
Kohaku indirectly kills Makihisa, Akiha,
SHIKI, a bunch of random people, and herself, and you are fine with that?
>>
So what are the chances of Subahibi hitting it's artbook stretch goal? Needs about $27k in 4 days.
>>
>>17521470
Of course not because the $1 tier doesn't give you the games. The minimum for both was like 50-60 dollarydoos.
>>
>>17521477
Why would I feel bad for Makihisa the child rapist? But I wasn't referring to any of that, but rather Kohaku's backstory of being sexually abused, similar to Sakura's. The two games present similar material in a different way. Tsukhime is actually kind of tasteful about it, keeping it within the bounds of reality, not giving you too much detail about it, and mainly dealing with the psychological aspects of it; on the other hand I felt like F/SN was just trying as hard as it could to make me disgusted until I eventually just stopped giving a fuck about Sakura at all. From what I know of MLA it looks like it's more like the latter situation, but of course I'd like to be wrong about that.

They seemed to imply all backers would get it, like the ones who didn't get a key would have a chance to buy one early for backing the project.

There is going to be overlap between the SakuSaku and Subahibi markets, even if some would play only one or the other. As a lesser draw, you also have Ne No Kami part 2 also coming out the 31st. Although if Little Busters is released on time, that would overshadow all the end of month releases.

I suppose that companies trying to get a title out in a given month may lead to the end of the month often having a relatively crowded release schedule. The same thing happened last month with MG and Sekai releasing relatively big moege a couple days apart.
>>

I can't blame them. It's not their fault that there are legal problems. I do understand what you're saying about people being obsessive about the issue, though.

W Happiness obviously had way more hype behind it than Wagamama. I wonder if the crowded end of August release schedule is why they opted not to do a late August release this time.

They are releasing Fashioning Little Miss Lonesome on September 8th which wouldn't really conflict with the other titles at the the end of August, but seems to be more a result of them wanting to have a large enough preorder window on their website while having preorders go up as Otakon started.

Both ero scenes in Alternative are straight garbage.

>>17524180
They probably think fans will do it anyway, so they might not feel the need to bother. Plus, like they said, they're busy fulfilling other rewards from the kickstarter.
>>
>>17524000
Of course. It is the worst kind of censorship. When the reader will feel like "So why was this changed?".

Usually it also means most prudes ask themselves why it wasn't censored because it is too extreme. And suddenly you realize you just went and upset everyone, instead of limiting yourself to one group.

Only with censorship you can actually succeed in pissing everyone off. The opposite of making everyone happy.
>>
>>17524141
>>17524142
I prefer this to the 18+ original, probably because I was never a big fan of tentacle porn shit anyway. It righteously removes most of the "this is porn" feel from the scene and leaves Sumika's descriptions more up to your imagination, making it much more terrifying.
>>
>>17524180
They could do that really easy as you just swap the CG in their project and rebuild. Then just use patching tools to create a patch.

>>
>>17524331
If I remember correctly, changing images for MLA was done through hooks, like translation itself.
Engine and archive are fucking nightmare to work with. I tried to reverse-engineer it for Chronicles translation, and while it turned out to be possible, its just too much effort and too annoying to do. Hooks work well enough, so I gave up.

Space Live could be the next game to be released. I wonder if they will wait for Fashioning to be released before announcing preorders. The two of them seem aimed for different demographics even if they are both going to be on steam. Kuroinu is also likely, but Kouryuu probably would have mentioned it if they were releasing it soon.

Supipara Ch 2 could be the next VN after those two since it's pretty short and easier to script than some of the other titles currently in scripting or about to be in such. Damekoi and Sorcery Jokers are longer, Bokuten is Bokuten, and Retarnia is a gameplay title. Sono Hana might finish before Supipara Ch 2 though, if only because it has a dedicated programmer.

There were a number of technical hurdles with Prism Ark, almost all of them have been solved. Writing a decompiler for the binary script format (not easy work by the way) allowed altering of game scripts, which as a result allowed fine control of text and font metrics, which solved the existing text display issues. He did a number of exe changes in order to correct text display issues at choices, which were written up in a blog post. Tools were written to convert to and from the game's own custom image file format, as well as tools to both pack and unpack both of the game's archive types. This all works. It's done. Literally the only outstanding issues is automatic word wrapping and character spacing in the backlog.

The last time they interacted, Aroduc gave his team a deadline of one week to get shit done, or he'd give up the project. Yeah the project was not moving, no one was doing any work, that's a valid complaint, but you could say that about the translation too. At the time, it was almost a full year since Aroduc last touched a translation. Still, he said things were going, so they did the work. From the point of his ultimatum, it took two weeks from that point to finish the script tool working on it full time over that period. Aroduc fucked off after his week was up and never came back, even though he was being updated on the work being done. Doddler made a clear effort on twitter to communicate the work that was done when it was finished, but to no avail. He continued working on the game past that point to fix other text issues, but never got a reply.

You can call that abandoning Aroduc if you really want, but that's not how it looks to me. Several hundred hours of work were sunk into technical work on the project as well as the time that DxS and Tolrin spent editing and debugging. The game is in a position where translation is the majority of the remaining work. You can have your opinions on baldr sky if you want, but in the case of Prism Ark, Aroduc was the one who abandoned his team.
>>
>>17524833
I really hope it adds a option for that though and not just forces it as long as it's installed. An options is what they should have put in from the beginning.

Only thing that is really some kind of DRM/anti piracy is the steam API. I can't imagine they are putting anything more than that on it(they didn't for the original steam release) and it shouldn't really conflict with changing the .rio files as the API stuff is mostly embedded within the exe file.
Give me some working tools and I could probably do it myself fairly quickly if it is just a simple CG swap, but it seems there aren't any readily available for image re-insertion.

>>
>>17527609
It's Dovac's fault for never offering fair or reasonable terms, but DxS is deep up Dovac's asshole, so instead, he blames Aroduc for making him lose face with Sekai Project and costing him time and money.
>>
>>17527609
Dovac's offer basically was like "you will work for free on two releases, and if you don't meet deadline for any of them, you will owe us compensation money. You will not get any assistance with all-ages release. You will not get schedule extension despite your detailed explanation why current schedule is impossible. You may not work with any other company while under contract with us."
This is nothing else but scam, and Aroduc had no other choice than rejecting it.
>>

Anyone know where I can torrent Muv Luv Total Eclipse VN? My google-fu is not cutting it
>>
worth waiting for the official muv-luv release? I thought unofficial translations have been available forever
>>
>>17531242
The original translations were passable, but it has a lot of the usual Ixrec problems.
Alternative will be out in less than a month so if you can wait then you might as well wait. In the mean time you can play Extra/Unlimited, since it is already out, or something else to pass the time.
>>
>>17531242
On vndb someone from Degica stated that the fan translation was so full of errors that virtually every single line of text had to be revised.
>>
>>17531257
>Ixrec problems.

say no more. that's kept me from vns until i started hearing about all the translations coming out soon. i'll probably check back in a few months to see what vns to start off with when it all gets translated.
>>
ixrec is one of the greatest translators to ever grace the scene

I will not allow you to read all-ages crap.

the fuck are you on about? TE is not 18+
>>
>>17531257
>>17531279
Didn't Ixrec do Cross+Channel as well? Will that ever get a good translation?

>end of September.
Guess I will have to finish the VN without the patch. I want to finish it before the anime.
Although when I have finished it, I probably won't care about the patch anymore, so it's rather sad.
How can programming a patch take this long anyway?
>>
>>17529930
I'm annoyed it's taking this long, but at least I won't have to decide between Subahibi or DI, I should be done with Subahibi by the time this patch comes out, if ever.
>>
>>17531822
Probably because the patch itself is low priority.
>>
>>17532072
They shouldn't give low priority to something people have already paid for.
>>
>>17532490
It's low priority to them because you were stupid enough to give them your money already.
>>
>>17532490
Most people don't care that much about the 18+ patch

Get out, Sekai Project.

Russian translation of Fata Morgana is interesting. With that and the Chinese TL of Remembering How We Met, that confirms that MG is getting non-English translations.

Said Russian translation probably won't sell well though since they are so known for piracy. I doubt MG went out of its way to commision it. Chinese tl is useful since the Chinese make up a huge bulk of Steam sales as can be seen with Sekai's sales. I'm a bit curious if Chinese tl for non-Steam nukige is worth it.

I don't know what is more surprising: a hyper niche VN getting localized or Sakura Game giving any amount of care to one of their translations

I don't habeeb it

So when is https://vndb.org/v14556 getting announced then?
>>
>>17507589
https://vndb.org/v21385 was released this week by SakuraGame.
>>
>>17534952
Is it MTL garbage like the rest of their catalogue?

Yes. Mixed reviews.

i wonder if sekai or mg have had talks with orcsoft before, they have a number of titles that could do well

Sayooshi never.

Look at the cartel acting like fags because one of "them" dared to translate a silly nukige.
>>
>>17535501
They're joking.
>>
>>17512627
They've posted the translated AMA answers from SCA-DI on the Kickstarter page.

Luckily they're not actually here, I bet HemoImo is just some meme passion project by Cafe.
>>
>>17535501
I think they're more shocked by SakuraGame than it getting an official release. SakuraGame is known for dumping dlsite nukige on steam at an incredible rate for a few dollars, intact with full sex (but covering genitals with emoji + uncensor patch available), with translation from japanese to chinese and then machine translated from chinese to english, making it barely comprehensible and completely unreadable. Very likely the whole thing is a strategy to legally sell porn games to users in china. The strategy is working too, some of their titles sell in excess of 100k sales. Their existence is a slap in the face of anyone who actually cares about the games and translations. The only reason this particular game is getting a real translation at all is because cafe was already working on it and was in contact with the devs.

It's a pretty sketchy business, if anyone convinces valve to pull porn games off steam, it'll be them. They also propose to businesses over twitter: https://twitter.com/SakuraGame2017/status/892208709580931072
They're cold tweeting to random companies and individuals and offering them ~30k to give them their game. Check out their message history, it's crazy.
>>
>>17535149
This looks awful.
>>
>>17537465
Ah, good old chinese business.
Their whole country works like that.
>>
>>17537465
On the bright side they are setting the standard of charging 2 dollars for machine translation games. So others need to put effort into translations if they want to ask for more than 2 dollars.
>>
>>17534851
Russian translation was done for free by fata morgana fan. It was made official because said translator really respects Novectacle and contacted them on his own. Therefore it wasn't comissioned and wasn't some business decision. Also one week discount was made specifically with poor economical situation in russia in mind.
>>
>>17537635
Why bother with good translation if selling mt-ed games nets you more profit? I mean for the time you spent to translate one game - you can sell 10 MT-ed nukiges to chinese.
>>
>>17538767
at some point nukige market will be saturated
>>
>>17539243
I don't believe that solely because chronic fappers never can get enough.
>>
Subahibi probably won't make its stretch goal.

>>17539243
Theoretically, yes, but you need to release an inhuman amount of nukige to do that. Japan releases dozens a month.
>>
>>17539811
>Subahibi probably won't make its stretch goal.
Can't they get extra funding through backerkit?

SCA-DI's AMA answers were posted. He's interested in localizing Sakura no Uta and Toki
>>
>>17539981
>Q: With Subahibi having some of the extreme content it does, was there anything the localization team or KeroQ was nervous in regards to bringing it over to the west?
>SCA-DI: Nervousness is all I felt. In fact, I'm still a little worried about whether everything will be alright.
>>
>>17539981
It's kind of weird that they didn't get the Subahibi translator to start working on Sakura no Uta already.
>>
>>17540244
The Subahibi translator was a fan translator Frontwing bought the translation from, so they can't really order him around or anything.
>>
If SukiSuki isn't mentioned next month I'm going to end it.
