I'm starting to get a good amount of gold after sleeping with everything around me but it's not really doing much for my levels. I need to do some quests or dungeons but I'm not sure how I can sleep my way to victory with monsters that want to kill me. I tried putting down a bed and squeezing enemies but it didn't work. Is there really no way to kill enemies by sleeping with them? I tried branching out to party time quests and I thought acting as a high class escort and sleeping with people would work but it doesn't. Am I left with hiring a gay boy band to help me with party time quests and dungeons?

Having a go at making an AE86 NPC sprite and I think I'm doing pretty well considering I have no experience with pixel art. Front end is looking very nice, need to work out the slopes of the angles on the read though. Wheel hub looks a bit off. This is the image I was using as a guide.

Geez that is a lot of text I still have to read, but..
Just for those wondering, inv/cdata/adata/etc are not functions (yeah I know it looks like that).
They are in fact multidimensional arrays, for example, inv is named as such since it holds data about items. inv(7, ci) means value of position 7 for item in position ci...
Now, that doesn't make much sense reading it like that, but we happen to know that position 7 holds the weight for items, so in short: inv(7, ci) means weight of item ci.

For those wondering, you can find most of the definitions on the _init labels, in this case: *system_init

That makes enough sense, okay. Fixed-size arrays of fixed-size arrays? Makes much more sense than a function.

Um... I think I bugged out my adventurer pal I've been trying to wed.
I was tired of her wandering around so I leashed her while raising her affection through killing monsters while hired.
I came across her in town a month or so after our last meeting and now she is randomly flipflopping between stabbing me and wanting to have a nice conversation with me. I was very confused when I noticed the log mentioned her struggling with a leash.
I tried to use it again on her to release her, but it said she cut it in resistance. Should I hire her again THEN try to undo the leash or will it possibly fix itself?
She is 3 times my level and I don't want to be minding my own business only for her to go yandere on me.

It's better to keep your inventory slots for scrolls/potions/artefacts during extended dungeon runs, you know, things that either stack or are expensive.

the rarer ones are worth much more (bells) but all can be sold. if you think you'll ever do necromancy, maybe stockpile generic eyes or hearts, but they won't make good necro units - recipe scales with level and rarity of monster that dropped part.

Magic Device guy here.
Duplicane handles all your combat rods as long as you have 2 stamina. There is a drop in damage while using duplicane though, but I have been fine so far.
For everything else you can use draw and fill charge actions. Draw takes charges from rods, fill lets you recharge rods using the charges you took. But there is the slight chance on filling that the rod will explode.

No... you don't understand. THis is beyond all comprehension.

So I went to Palmia to get screenshots of this behavior. Taoliz the fox (female) has anorexia, eats random shit, beer and potions, and vomits all the time. I went to get a picture of her inventory, always empty -- just before this shot she ate a raw noodle -- and then this happened. She turned into a neutral blue baptist who can talk to me. A male blue baptist. I don't know what to do. I'm telling you all, for 10 years she didn't have any potions or food, but every single turn she wasn't disabled she would eat or drink something.

And now, on this day of all days, she became this. I haven't even saved yet because I don't know what to do. I'm gonna leave the house for a bit and think.

An explosive-breeder-type enemy like those in some other traditional roguelikes. +Fire immune if you can, so Meteor won't instantly solve it.
>>
>>17376988
The mod pastebin contains the Performaid Crab, an earlier creation that combines multiple gather + summon creatures/chaos + shadow rush, with a separate version that splits. It's not immune to fire, but it's the best "explosive-breeder" that I could think up.

The problem comes in with "divides by PV + DV" Now, with my stats i'm essentially a level 30 trash mob. My PV + DV looks to be about 220, because bad at game. That's pretty low.

Imagine you went from dealing 30k to 30k/220 = 136, that's how bad it looks.

I fired a panzerfaust X at a rogue wizard. I dealt 488 damage.

>Deals rnd(50) + Perception * 2 + Marksman^2 / 40 damage to single target
(This was before change, and according to wiki, so, grain of salt)

So I would deal, with my stats, minimum 0 + 188*2 + ( 65^2 / 40)
Which I had to estimate marskman on because of +skills. About 480 damage. Uhhhh... well, I was pretty sure they said rocket fire was one of the things that was changed. Let's try another special action.

My golden storm deals about 550 damage to a kobold. It deals about the same to a Minotaur boxer. About the same to a green dragon. Same deal against a black griffon, 4 times.

I feel like I've unlearned, somehow. It definitely says "elonaplus custom 1.70.1," where's the damage reduction?

SP-eating non-spammable skills are reduced by both resists and dv-pv, cool. Ano should check lategame scaling too if he likes balancing so much.

If people are annoyed by Ano rebalancing everything all the time why did people jump on Elona+ instead of one of the other Elona modded variants?

There is a whole lot of other things in +. Its just Ano is really half-assed when it comes to skill balance at times. DESU i think it was incorporated for a good reason. This is why I get so confused over the scaling.

Summon spirits were nerfed, so add some music ticket spawns. (But why nerf summon spirit? Now it's a useless spell)

Purchase price caps sell price (but fever mode auto-id's items on the ground, encouraging more diving)

Shops nerfed, but more gathering spots so you can craft more items to sell (but did they have to be nerfed that much?)

There's so much thought put into Fever Mode, I just don't know how so little thought is put into the linear (or low cap exponential) damage-dealing special actions

what's the point of oracle scrolls?
>>
>>17379707
Ok
It runs counteractively to the game developer's wishes, so posting in a thread about playing the game and instead cheating means you are not actually playing. The thin line between cheating and playing is constructed by a crowd of people who are all working, voluntarily, within the confines of a set of rules and allowed operations (philosophically known as a game). I don't mean morally wrong, I mean circumventing actions required for gameplay is opposing the spirit of a thread dedicated to gameplay.

It is mechanically wrong and socially unacceptable.

I like how you cherry-picked the last part of the post. You can cheat all you want! Just know that it's silly to suggest it to people who are trying to work within the confines of the game. To most people that is fun, and it's socially unacceptable to show rewards you got for avoiding the process that other people submit themselves to and bond over in a thread on a kerouacian greasepainting imageboard.

Hi there! The english wiki we tend to use is http://elona.wikia.com/wiki/Elona_Wiki. Nefian Fever was introduced in update 1.69, it happens on months not divisble by 3 between the 15th and about the 20th. Fire sprites appear on your clock. More loot in dungeons, stuff on ground is identified for you, music tickets in gold piles if high enough level, a TON of gathering spots. It's supplemental to a massive shop nerf.
>>
>>17379918
That's technically a single sprite that is placed over the clock. I wonder if a younger sister face with eyes on fire could be made to work without fucking the clock itself
>>
Nefia fewer is such a nice idea to promote active gameplay. I'm afraid that players will stop dungeon diving without this mode with time, though.

>>
>>17379854
I don't think the point was about all memory editing, I just see guys that disagree with ''players making use of dev oversight = memory editing stats''.

There was a guy talking about psychology, well everyone should understand that if there is any *in-game* way for players to get ahead faster, they will nearly always exploit it. Look at summon spirits in party time quests before the nerf for example.

It is the job of the dev to keep these things in check and from spiralling out of control, or better yet make use of it (someone said make exploit into an event). This is also a game that is for a large part about ''breaking the game'' (getting strong faster, finding new methods to be efficient at whatever you do) so players are always looking for ways to bypass their ''work''. But all of it still takes place in the game itself and not an external program.
>>
>>17379954
It just reminds me of a pretty big amount of bugs and unintended features from earlier versions that allowed extremely fast growth with passive gameplay. Its kinda cool to find all that stuff but it impacts gameplay in a way similar to memory/savegame editing, it spoils(not sure if its the right word, english is weird) players too much.

It is one of the few games I can make a party out of basically anything in the game I want, and allows me to give them their own in game personalities via tone.txt.
Just tons of rp possibilities in general supported by mechanics.
Also the main plot is just engaging enough to me it gives me a reason on top of everything else to keep playing when I normally get bored of open sand box games in like a week.

I don't know, but lately these threads have been filled with a bit of frustration and anger over the most trivial things like the definitions of "essential" and "cheating". Hopefully this will all pass and the threads will go back to 100% relaxing.

>>17379890
It's mainly because as far as gaming communities go the English elona player base seems small. If you ever are curious about something try the wiki others have linked (which admittedly takes time to update and is hard in some cases if you don't know EXACTLY what you are looking for). If it doesn't have/you can't find something just pop in the thread and ask. Most people are willing to help out.
Nefia are the lores name for the random dungeons that pop up on the map.

Ball spells > bolt > darts
Magic-typed (raw magic) damage is great but you'll need to specifically abandon magic dart eventually for better scaling spells (magic storm, ice ball against wet targets, meteor)

This always bugs me about the game though. Why is there a hierarchy of single target/line/radius that only gets better? I would think single target would excel against single target, but this is not the case, due to speed. Maybe one day we'll get feats for bolt/single target casters?

Ball spells have no range.
Fairies have no life.
I'm rather content with lightning/water bolt combo

Magic is ok if you go crystal spear or magic storm, but ultimately are inferior to pirmary elements if you debuff and wetten targets. Nether is reasonably good for selfheal though.
Also, its good idea to follow this >>17380409 anon's advice.

>>17380412
Nope. Wet is literally just being wet after standing in water or hit with any potion. That doubles lightning and ice damage, but halves fire damage.
Elemental scar weakens resistance to the 3 main elements(fire/ice/lightning).
Putting them together is very fun.

You can "easily" reproduce this as I've noticed, as adventurer NPCs will force restock their inventory when you trade with them until they get to a point there there's some sort of timer before they can do it again.
If the item they restock is a potion they'll get stuck in a loop of drinking a potion unless they lack an equipment piece, and well be restocking a new one potion once the last one has been drunk and/or timer runs out.

Suggestions would be helpful.
Cuteness is always the deciding factor.

Fox bro is kinda squishy but is cute and one of his evolutions learns Megid Flame. Flame Dragon does get that ability I believe, though.
There's also the new silver fox brother, but he's harder to get.
Exile, Itzpalt's god pet, has the unique ability to cast its three dart spells in one action.
You can always teach pets Crystal Spear for AP, or any spell you have at level 50+ if you have Elona Custom.

I'd recommend my wife but fuck you she's mine. Dark elea's not a bad choice but good luck finding one, much less one that's not (male).

You can change classes now with business card (won at casino). Pets have their magic based solely on Casting skill and main attribute for the spell.
Predator is okay. There are better choices but yours is pretty safe. Little girl wont learn magic until you get magic and another hearts for evolution, so better get some god pet and use her for melee with stave(for training con) weapon. MA training is tedious, so good luck. Maybe its better to hunt for Art of Martial Arts book and read it during bad weather/in snowy areas as long as you have plat to upgrade potential.

Maybe pick picrelated god, this tsundere will passionately watch over you, jure's heal skill is pretty nice both early and late, its easy to gain her favor and defender is pretty nice for melee.
Get as much equipment with 'chance to get extra attack' bonus and take everything from your hands once you get this. This will allow you to deal up to 8 attacks barehanded at once.
Once you learn attribute, use ice or lightning element and throw potions (ideally weaken resistance) at beefy targets.
>>
>>17381773
Thanks for the advice anon. Been ages since I played Elona, and I think last time I just used Elosnack to pick God, add back all the equipment slots, and went to town.

...
Of course that only lasts so long, since eventually you can't just run headlong into enemies and always expect to not die horrendously.

Been also considering for fun to do some Symphogear-esque builds. Maybe do one based on Kanade, or take advantage of Farmer's unique passive to do a Kirika build using a Scythe.

Gimmicky things are fun. Farmer also has all those kind of handy skills you'd get anyway, at the expense of having absolutely no combat skills to start with, of course...

The little girl was 459,759 from leveling, the fire dragon child's 99,286 and the defender's 189,479.

Got 2 spellbooks of wish back to back within seconds. It's times like this I really wonder about leaving investment of magic vendors at like 200 shop level instead of raising it to some high number if you have gold to burn. I know I was mass investing to raise charisma so it would at least be more in line with my other high attributes.

A lot of my spellbooks of wish I got off of my home vendors at shop level 20k instead of the rest of the magic vendors in all the towns of North/South Tyris and Irva. The town shopkeepers are at like 2k shop level for me.

I do see spellbooks of wish on them sometimes but I just wonder why the 8 at home seem to carry them more for me than the 17 other vendors found out in the world. Either this is some weird coincidence or there might be something more definitive going on. At any rate, yay for at least 100 more levels from wishing.

Wished for a lightsaber and a shield.
With the lightsaber (weight .6s) equipped with nothing in the other hand slot, melee was 2d5+1 x62.1 hit 93%.
Equipping the shield changed that to 2d5+1 x2.2 hit 68%.

>>
>>17382878
It's better than no benefit, but it's not as good of a bonus as a heavy weapon. It's in the middle.
The real question is "If you want to make a 2handing character why are you playing a fairy?"
>>
>>17382859
Full benefits of the two hand skill is not realized until the weapon passes a certain weight threshold. The log will tell you if a weapon is suitable for two hand style. If it is you'll see a greater damage multiplier than if it was too light for two hand. In other words, light weapons can benefit from two hand but to maximize its bonuses a weapon needs to be a certain weight or greater. More info can be found with the two hand article on the wiki:

http://elona.wikia.com/wiki/Two_Hand

While you can make a fairy be a pure two hand wielder and make it work, a non fairy pure two hand wielder would do more damage simply because he/she is not weight restricted. There is a damage boost to crit for weapons that weigh a ton.

There's a lot of ways to make money in the game but earlier on you probably won't make much. This changes though and earning potential ramps up the further along you are in the game since you have access to more resources and can spend money to make even more money.

In my case, I made my gold earlier on by collecting everything I saw on the dungeon floor in random dungeons/void and selling it. I also sold cooked food from the meats I would gather from dead enemies. The money from the items I was selling from junk treasure wasn't anything to write home about back then but it helped support me. I got more money from selling cooked food however. I used my gold to buy all sorts of things but as far as making gold goes the important purchases were scrolls of gain material and properties such as farms and shops. Between the scrolls, the resource nodes in dungeons, and later on pets, I had enough materials eventually to train up my crafting skills such as tailoring, alchemy, and carpentry.

My farms were cranking out produce and I would sell tons of cooked produce for gold to vendors in towns. My first stores I opened up were a magic store and a blacksmith. I would sell the junk I got from dungeons in them and got a bump in how much gold I was making through selling it in my own stores than vendoring. Much later, about the time I got a ranch, I opened up a restaurant/shop to sell cooked food.

As I practiced crafting stuff my tailoring skill got high enough where I could craft stuff in bulk to sell for a lot of gold. That supplemented all the other stuff I was doing. Keeping my shops constantly stocked with stuff, I eventually got to shop rank 1, Tyris's greatest mall. At first my shopkeepers didn't really move much inventory but as my shop rank and their skills rose that all changed.

Despite the nerfs to shops, they're still very good gold making machines even in 1.70. At the very least, the blacksmith and the food shop are very good gold earners at least in my experience. My magic shop doesn't make that much gold 1.70 but the fact that I can get spellbooks/rods of wish traded in and scrolls of gain attribute from it keeps me from closing it down.

As I said before, crafting is one of the way I make gold and I assure you it can be a very lucrative business. For instance, I have a brand of panties that I have the goddess of wealth, the shopkeeper of my blacksmith, sell. People are willing to pay top gold for panties in Elona. In my picture I crafted a seemingly unremarkable panty aside from the fact that its material is dawn cloth. Selling to a store vendor I would get 160k in gold. Having my shopkeeper sell it in my store however I was able to flip that same panty for 864k gold. So not only does this prove panties are very lucrative but even pet run stores in 1.70 are still worth it. Selling a bunch of panties I can get millions each day from that alone however I sell other stuff I craft such as beer. I also have a ranch which I get lamb from and sell premium lamb steaks in my food shop for lots of gold as well along with cooked stuff from dungeons. Junk gear from dungeons also gets tossed into the blacksmith.

Eventually you can build multiple streams of income and just make so much gold you have tons in your safe stored up. Currently I'm still going through my 44 million I have on hand but I have about 200 million waiting for me in my safe at the moment. I'm content with how much I make and I can think of plenty of things to spend it on. Could go for another round of growth scroll stacking so I can spend a lot of time in a dungeon leveling things without having to come up to visit a trainer.
>>
>>17383087
Damn, this is so comprehensive, thank you. Here's proof that food stores are still worth it and crafting isn't nerfed out of existence, rather, is probably the best source of income. Super cool, thank you.

>Changed how all types of player shops except for the goods shop work. Items types that the shop type specializes in will have a 1.2x multiplier on sale price and an increased chance of selling. Item types that the shop does not specialize in will now have a 1.0x multiplier, but have a decreased chance of selling. Changing shop types no longer costs money.
A general store has some sort of sale rejection rate, and specialized stores don't but only sell specific kinds of items, except that's gone now and any store can sell any item, but the store's specialty items sell for 20% more? Is there any point to a general store now?

What's the deal with the last god gifts being absolute garbage?
Is it even worth it to go for them?
>>
Few quick questions.
When teleporting it only puts you on "legal" spots right? I am planning to take house guests to a tiny island surrounded by ocean water and want to make sure I can't accidentally kill myself teleporting out if there.

Also is there absolutely any reason to have a general store now? I used to keep one since I only wanted one shop and was too lazy to change it. Is the rejection chance just flat out worse than the decreased sell rate of nonspecialty items if I want to sell everything in a single store?
>>
>>17384657
Crafting recipes are easily spammable, also the experience they give is directly proportional to the number of ingredients used.
>>
>>17384713
You know you can just use "Move a stayer" on the house board to move them, right?
>>
>>17384738
Yes, but I never want them to step foot in my actual house in the first place. My plan was to use the chair furniture ability to make a "meeting area" for guests to send us to the little island so if I'm not paying attention and hit the wrong dialogue option with a trick or treater or similarly destructive guest the damage is minimized. I want at least 5 times of impassable water separating them from anything flammable.
>>
>>17384774
Tiles not times. Stupid autocorrect.
>>
>>17384774
I see. But yeah Teleport will always place you on a walkable tile. There's no such thing as getting stuck in walls impassable water is just an unminable wall.
You could use lava too, if you wanted.
>>
>>17384774
Water tiles can be burned down like wall tiles. Once I accidentally destroyed most of Port Kapul's ocean while trying to incinerate a bard.
>>
>>17384788
You can also blast down absolutely any tile with MP breath, as far as I can tell.
I once used this to escape an arena battle since walking to the edge there lets you escape like in Hunting quests.
>>
>>17384785
Thanks for the info. Lava would be a nice touch even if it does make my home look like a castle of doom.
Lava can't set things on fire or anything can it? I doubt it, but I don't want to take any chances as elona has surprised me many times before.
>>
>>17384803
Nope. Lava, much like water, is just a fancy wall that can't be mined.
>>
>>17384788
Oh. Well that is seriously disappointing.
I assume you at least can't burn down the walkable tiles that make you wet right?
>>
>>17384819
Maybe? I'm not sure, you'd need to test it out in some dungeon fist. Never trust Elona to operate logically.
>>
So if drain/fill charge are a skill you can get, what stops you from infinitely recharging rods of alchemy/wish?
Is there a chance they stop working, like wells, or something like that?
>>
>>17384870
All rods have a chance of blowing up when charged.
Rods of wishing can never be recharged.
>>
>>17384870

>>

How so?
Don't skills need experience to increase based on their original value, not the after-enchantments value?
>>
>>17384965
You can get last reward only by personally meeting the god(dess)
>>
>>17385140
I know. That's why I need the wish.
>>
>>17385118
It seems after-enchantment value is the one which is used, in the end. Same for attributes - very fast training for drained attributes, since you need xp fo lv1>lv2 str, not lv200>201
>>
>>17385152
That seems weird.
The game stores the total experience for every attribute and that experience is directly linked to the actual level of the skill/attribute, so does it just give you a fuckton of experience when you take the limiting item off?
>>
So I've only ever worshipped Ehekatl, and I'm a magic-user. Is this passive mana randomization effect worth keeping or is this useless? I'd hate to leave her but I'm starting to get upset that I don't have the Kumiromi passive.

Noob question on beginning martial arts, do you dual wield claws? Does off hand have to be a tonfa? I looked over some of Kai's guide on starting, but does MA use the dual wield skill?
>>
>>17385374
Claws are not weapons, so they won't cause DW to be used.
If placed in the off-hand they will level the Shield skill, despite not giving the casting penalty of shields. I'm not sure if they actually get the PV bonus of Shield either.
>>
>>17385164
You need less experience per skill level for skills with their levels reduced by enhancements. Dont ask me how it works, i have no idea.? It worked for attributesx a couple of years ago too, dunno about now.
>>
>>17385224
Kumiromi doubles natural sp regen. how much sp regen do you get from regeneration spell?
>>
>>17385421
If Elona is handling attribute/skill modifiers by subtracting the level when a penalty is added and then recalculating what the total experience should be based on the reduced level I'm going to have a fucking laugh.
>>
>>17385454
You can laugh now, since its precisely the reason why equipment like last rewards from gods exist in E+.
It gives players more control over leveling, so i dont mind at all.
>>
>>17385454
It doesn't recalculate total experience, but the exp gained for a skill or stat is reduced based on the current skill or stat level.
>>
>>17385454
>>17385477
Oh, misread. In Elona, leveling up skill/attribute requires certain amount of expierence based on it's current level.
Technically you need 1000 progress to gain a level. And by gaining 40 xp ou get 4000 progress for lv1 skill or 40 progress for lv100. Those are not actual numbers, just an example to roughly show how it works.
>>
>>17385593
As the result of such way of calculating skill progress, for higher levels you need more and more experience per 1 progress unit, and due to rounding low xp actions stop giving any progress.
Its multiplied by potential before rounding down, but it still prevents many low xp actions to give any progress when skill levels are close to 2k cap.
>>
>>17385623
Well, they don't necessarily give nothing.
Rather, it rolls for a chance to give you one point. The chance is pretty bad but it's better than nothing.

This will now happen at 100% chance at skill level 50 and above. In addition to that, the skill will now also work on non-equipment items, identifying them [at random] with the passage of turns. Doesn't matter how many shops you have. You only have one shop rank(unknown shop, average shop, tyris greatest mall, etc) and no matter what shop makes a sale its sale contributes to the advancement of your shop rank. The shopkeeper who made the sale will also get sales exp as well.

>>17386238
No not really. You can train it fine without going that far. Wish spell gets harder to cast as it levels so to beat the difficulty curve to always cast at 100% success rate you need to level casting. Luckily, casting is one of the easiest skills to cap as long as you have access to the mage guild and a decent stream of gold coming in. All you need to do is spam oracle to cap casting and keep casting potential high enough for gains. So I was reserving nothing but oracle spellbooks from the mage guild for a period of time. Bought tons of them and due to having tons of oracle spellbooks to read and gain stock, literacy as a result leveled up while I was training casting. Last I remember reading oracle spellbooks gave decent literacy gains but there may be harder spellbooks to read which can earn you more literacy exp. Method is to just reserve those books then and read them if you're primarily trying to raise literacy.

Everytime I check in with a magic vendor I consider finding a spellbook of wish a jackpot but if I don't find one I consider wonder scrolls a consolation prize. Wonder scrolls are fairly common on magic vendors but it requires you to get huge stacks of them to luck out and get wish stock from. Spellbooks of wish, especially blessed, give the most wish stock and is guaranteed to give it so they're naturally the best source. 1 blessed spellbook of wish can give me around 50 wishes. While higher wish spell level makes it harder to cast wish, higher wish spell level helps you not use as much stock in casting wish. So it's alright to level the spell as long as your casting skill is good enough.

The majority of the rods of wish I have were gained from magic seed farms which produce rods. All rods that weren't wish or something I wanted at the time got dumped in my magic shop for extra gold and possibly a lucky turn in for a rod of wish.

Well this is going better then I expected, all things considered.

I might consider trying a different character build. Being a bare-handed monk is kiind of not that fun when it comes to fighting. My pets are like 90% of my damage output, and I really notice it during arena fights.

Considered trying a Kirika build from Symphogear, using the Farmer passive to make her have the highest chance to kill with scythes...

But maybe I'll try a cheaty-build and play a debug race, and see what happens if you roll around with the max of 2000 Luck. But that would also kind of get rid of the point of all the Luck boosters... Not sure, not sure. So much to do in Elona, I'm never entirely sure what I want to do!
>>
>>17386969
It looks like Wish actually starts gaining cast % with spell level around 1320 Casting, for the curious.
>>
>>17386982
MA damage output scales way off later on. It's a late investment though. Think of it as the magikarp of Elona. Once you evolve they will all be sorry.
Having said that, you could buy stacks of ofudas and throw those at enemies. That'd be an interesting playstyle.
>>
>>17387020
I know the wiki say you can buy ofudas at magic vendors, but i never saw any one up for sale.
All my ofudas were found in dungeons, and on the ground never saw an NPC drop one.

Incredible. 50 wishes from one book. Okay, read oracle spam oracle get enough platinum to keep memorization, literacy, and casting high. Tall order, but doable. Thanks!
>>
>>17387028
I have seen them, but at general goods vendors I think. They are semi-rare so it'd probably wouldn't be feasible without some way to either craft them or buy them in bulk.

That gives me an idea, how hard would it be to edit in an artefact weapon with custom sprites and effects? Similar to the Joker maybe, but more ofuda looking. You could swap the Joker sprite for an ofuda's, or maybe generic panties or sox, but that'd clash more with the names. I'm surprised there's not more touhou related weapons, other than the nightmare, and that's probably more of a jojo reference.
>>
>>17387020
I should probably learn to use Throwing things. Some enemies are either too fast to hit, or run away too much to get more then a single hit in.

And yeah MA seems to be really late game payoff. Seems in theory, it does more damage then anything else, but the damage range is pretty high.
>>
>>17387104
Remember that if you crit, it rolls the max.
>>
Think I'm gonna try another character for a bit. Playin' the Sendai Hakurei no Miko is kinda fun, but might want to try something a bit more simple then MA focused.

For the start of the game, got some advice? From what I read, the little girl you start with is actually weaker then a normal one, is it enough to consider getting one from the slave trader?

And what's a good second pet to aim for? Just another little girl, or something else? Cute girl pets only

I was gettin' pretty good at Gardening, but the main issue I had with Farms is the sheer amount of crops to harvest was actually a lot... and they would rot really fast, sometimes before I could consider cooking them. I guess most of that was because you can't use a freezer on a farm, and I never did buy a proper cooking furniture, and was using the portable one. Should I consider dragging one to the farm, or just stick a farm immediately next to some Town I'll pick as my base of operations?
>>
>>17387361
use a scroll of inferior material to turn a good cooking tool into paper so it's lightweight
>>
>>17387061
You don't really need to restart over a eimple weapon change, you can just start using the new type you want and it'll quickly catch up. The little girl you get is level 1 and you can buy them at around lvl 5, but I don't honestly consider it much of a different. They're very competent melee units once properly equiped. As for the darm issue I just leave a BBQ on every farm to quickly cook stuff I gather. Usually only need to rush for the lecchos, everything else doesn't spoil that fast. If it bothers you too much you can store them in a cooler. Which you should already have, and if you don't, go do the puppy quest on vernis right now.

For other cute pet girls, try getting little sister diaries, dog sisters, cat sisters, or pretty much or pretty much any diary. They're all cute.

Also remember you can make anything cute with custom sprites.
>>
>>17387361
Shouldn't your farms be close to your home then? Stick the freezer in your home and carry what you farmed to your house and stick it in the freezers if you need to.

I never even considered that. I always just instinctively sell every single scroll. Should probably hang onto some of these.

While you have a point, I tend to like to stick to character concepts, and using anything but hand-to-hand/throwing doesn't make sense for the character.

And ah they just start at a lower level, so not much of an issue. I've found one diary on an adventurer before, should probably look into them some more. Besides small medal trading I guess.

Custom sprites... hmm, good point. Should maybe look into that... I don't mind the paperdoll look for my own character, but getting some custom sprites would help keep all my pets organized.

>>17387418
You know, this is such an obvious solution, I'm a bit ashamed I didn't think of it.

Alright anons. I have personalities in tone.txt files for each of my pets/servants except Duraz the maid (male)

You go into \user\talk and make a copy of "sample.txt". Edit the ",EN" lines as you see fit. Then choose "Change Tone" on the interact menu and select the new text file.
>>
>>17387613
I just tried it and it extracted just fine (7Zip 16.04. It might be a RAR5 type file, if so make sure your archiver has RAR5 support.
RAR5 has been getting used more so people have been running into this issue since most don't bother to update their unzip program of choice.
>>
>>17387653
Thanks but I meant more like help putting the text on the sample into context. The sample had lines in english but it's not very clear on when each are used except for a select few.

For now:
Welcome: "Welcome home Master Bruce"
Dialog: "Would you like some tea, a hot water or perhaps... me?"
Night: "Don't do anything rash Master Wayne."
Insult: "You're nothing but a grown man wearing spandex"
Discipline: "You should take better care of yourself Master Bruce." (Not sure who's supposed to be disciplining who actually)
Meal: "Be sure to eat all of it, you need the carbs if you're to patrol all night once more."
Special?: "The Batmobile is ready whenever you neef it Young Master."

I have no clue for the rest, or they're meant for combat which I guess you won't need.

Altering the chatting lines in a talk.txt definitely adds new lines, but it seems it still uses the default ones regardless of what's in the file.

That old thread is pretty interesting.
Ehekatl

- wants to play with Lulwy
- feels nostalgic towards Kumiromi
- treats Mani like a nice warm bed
- likes to get food from Jure
- equates Opatos with earthquakes

Lulwy

- has a love-hate relationship with Mani
- likes to tease Jure
- likes to tease Kumiromi, but gets no reaction
- thinks Opatos is annoying
- thinks Itzpalt is annyoying

Kumiromi
- views himself as a guardian
- treasures Ehekatl, his former lover
- wishes Mani would make him some farming tools
- neutral towards everyone else

Mani
- views himself as talented and normal
- is cold towards Lulwy, but afraid of her
- bad with Ehekatl
- thinks Kumiromi is a good kid
- views Jure as an obstacle to his ambition
- views Itzpalt as a rival and annoying old man
- thinks Opatos is too loud

Jure
- lacks self-confidence
- admires Itzpalt
- scared of Mani-niisan
- bad with Lulwy-neesan
- jealous of Ehekatl's "size" but can't hate her
- likes to unload her mental burdens on Kumiromi
- thinks Opatos is a pervert

Itzpalt
- views himself as a gentleman and the leader
- thinks Jure and Kumiromi are good kids
- views Opatos as his comrade-in-arms

- thinks Mani is a brat

Opatos

So Itzpalt is everyone's big bro, but wants some pussy , and here i thought cat is trap's current gf.

Stats don't matter, only bitflags and special actions (and cuteness) matter. If she's weaker it's because she starts at your level instead of the default level, and since the earliest levels and lowest stats are the easiest to increase, this has no effect on your long term development.
>>
Is the fact that you can't use return between continents a technical limitation or a purposeful implementation with gameplay in mind?
>>
>>17389024
>>17387361

Cuteness is overrated since you can customize everything. But little girl is still the best since she is the only one who could recover you from younger sister's lunches.
If you use custom, best base would be karata, bells and cockroaches. God's pets have great abilities, most notable is guardian for permadeath mode, cute fairy for farmers and black angel as the best melee damage dealer. Uncontroll+Boost+Speed+Lulwy's Trick+swimming with magaqua is an amazing combo.
Fire Dragon is a great support for mages

Exotic stuff like death maneki or that thingie that spawns water tiles may be quite fun to play with as well.

That's completely understandable, I just wasn't sure if it was completely necessary technically to require a very linear chain of actions (N Tyris->S Tyris-> Irva) vs just initiating a move to the border from any location and then creating a new menu with more locations from that continent.

>>17389120
I bet you're exactly right.

What all references are there in elona+?

Elona is literally made of references. Every second item and npc references some movie/game/cultural thinge/meme
>>

A huge amount of content in vanilla was adopted from ADOM. Puppy cave, tower of fire, equipment stats, chaos and chaos mutations (here ether), Ancient Pyramid, the bandit quest (this and some other maps even have the same layout), random dungeons being a thing, a whole slew of monster and item names, getting resists from eating corpses...the whole base game is basically an homage to it mixed with other influences like the work of that writer you mention

thrown vs str.png
12KB, 226x72px
Been wondering about that for a while and finally decided to test it.
STR does, in fact, provide full bonus to thrown weapon damage multiplier.

<<From top to bottom:
29 tactics, 16 thrown:
- 3k STR with Uncontroll buff
- 2k all stats
- 100 STR and 2k all other stats
--
- 2k everything
- 2k everything+divine wisdom, hero, concentration, uncontroll (around 1,6x spellpower)
>>
>>17389943
So throwing takes into account Str, dex, throwing, tactics, weapon weight for crits, and for rocks there's a special extra damage modifier found on some staves.

Throwing looks extremely legit.
>>
File: unarmed.png (6KB, 233x16px) Image search: [Google]
unarmed.png
6KB, 233x16px
>>17389943
Unarmed with the same
- 2k everything+divine wisdom, hero, concentration, uncontroll

you may get extra damage from claws and bonus def from shield with thrown weapons, but damage is still less than a quarter of MA (8 extra attacks vs 2 EA, lower base damage, bad ranged modifier for thrown, not counting attribute bonus)
>>
>>17389990
Ohoookay well then. Worse than MA but maybe almost as good as ranged with timestop/burst.
>>
>>17389989
Additionally Yekatect's thrown coin from the reward gives 100% pierce if you want.
>>
>>17390001
Itty bitty damage though.
>>
>>17390031
You get large enough + damage to ignore dice part at higher STR. So it may be actually better for the endgame builds. Especially for pets with Boost.
>>
The fact Elona has an enforced permadeath option terrifies me. I die so much to being randomly oneshot by some out-of-depth monster or from a trap, or something else that I'm not sure how I'd ever have avoided dying in the first place.
>>
>>17390040
You also miss out on the +rock damage, though I'm not sure if that's even worth using.
Weakness debuff is a thing as well.
>>
>>17390087
+rock only adds +5 to range multiplier and +70% pierce. 100% pierce should give more, and Nightmare gives full 100% damage at all ranges.
Notable SA for thrown is Struck Out, pretty much a ranged swarm.
Weakness and shit works with unarmed as well so doesn`t deserve mentioning.
>>
>>17390080
Only early game is hard. Most permadeath players start with non-combat professions until they feel safe enough do dungeon dive. Always check enemies and move tile by tile while searching, have teleport rod and potions ready. Those 2 basic rules will ensure that you wont die 99 times out of 100.
>>
>>17390080
Literally all it is is a bit of luck and a ton of paranoia/preparation.
You shouldn't even think about fighting enemies until you have all equipment slots filled and have at least 2 methods of getting away from anything that looks even slightly less than 1 hit 1 kill for you.
Unless you know for a fact you can win have teleportation and a major healing method ready to run like a coward.
After a certain point you don't have to be as cautious since you have many methods for dealing with things but still need to be a bit careful.
>>
>>17390151
>Weakness and shit works with unarmed
We all know unarmed is stellar endgame, we're discussing throwing.
My point is that pierce matters less when their PV is lowered, so a greater raw damage may be more valuable under Weakness.
>>
>>17390080
>>17390194
Also, Hunting quests are VERY valuable for gauging how you will fare against enemies, especially those you haven't run into yet.
Dying in a Hunting quest is not permanent in Loss.
>>
>>17390201
Nightmare is most likely the best thrown weapon due to stop time and 100% damage at all ranges. Non-grenade throwing attacks are pretty bad at range>3, while over long throw eats quite a bit of sp if you spam it.
>>
>>17390244
And it has 0% pierce, so you really need Weakness to make the most out of it.
>>
>>17390174
Even for non-perma death, starting as Farmer was one of my better runs (then I found out Elona updated). The fact it starts with a bunch of useful non-combat skills you need anyway... though it does mean you basically live in Yowyn for quite a while. And I probably did lose a lot of possible stats from the fact my attribute potentials were so deep in the toilet pretty fast, but well you know.
>>
>>17390262
Yep. All and all thrown got the most options out of all fighting styles, i guess. You can use melee weapons with their special effects as well.

Good farmers run their own farms. And rare herbs increase attribute potentials much earlier than you could get a steady supply of blessed potential potions. You could even focus on specific attribute's potentials.

I pretty much only do hunting and harvest time quests now, got 29pp by taking palmia>yowyn>palmia quests during 3 days or something. And around 5 rare herbs from my farm. The bad part is that i cannot use herb in with rare herbs if i want to get decent potential.
>>
>>17390080
It is like bashing your head against a wall until the wall breaks, but replace your head with splatting characters against it. But unlike traditional RLs there is no time limit. You can take your sweet time carefully chipping away at the wall (safe quests only) or making some tools (invest, farm, craft). In any case it's unwise to risk the bash.

You think ''oh I'll just grab some loot on Puppy 1 and scoot'' and you get oneshot by a kobold. Character 2 you go ''oh I can probably survive three steps when overweight'' and don't. Character 3 your little girl drinks from the well and a cockatrice comes out. Instead of teleporting away you try to run and get zapped. Character 4 you go ''psshe I got past that, practically nothing can kill me'' and then you read a spellbook twice.

Here's a tip for surviving on permadeath:
Enchant your equipment
Getting a +2 or +3 is pretty cheap and it makes you a goddamn wall in the early game if you can put it on every piece.
>>
>>17390566
Yes this, only 1300 per +1 but damn my PV and DV trippled.
>>
>>17390566
How important is that for midgame? I'm in act 2 and pretty much the only things that kill me are nine dart gunfish or anything else that suddenly snicker-snacks you out of nowhere (ignores DV right?)
>>
>>17390617
PV still helps, even on crits (just not as much)
You will get to a point where you can basically +10 everything so you might was well.
>>
>>17390419
I dont really need any hp to survive. Random spawns are killed be either:
a. combo of debuffs from cute fairy and little girl's giga smash
b. 1,5 or 3k damage from violent garden.

Thats the only reason why my hp is so low for my level(i've got ether disease that ruins Con).

Yet i've had lv40-50 mob encounters, and sometimes they had 200+ speed. Quicklings are the most dangerous, you may not get your turn in the end. I'm pretty sure i'd have died at least twice if i had a tank char with your hp.
Not saying that HP is useless, just.. i'd avoid trying to rely on it. Simple teleport provides more safety, good pets provide the most safety.
>>
Ah yes, the classic speed vs hp debate. Saying one is strictly better than the other invalidates a playstyle, and you'll have both in the end. So why argue? There are merits to starting both ways.
>>
>>17390734
Its not about hp vs speed though. Simply suggestion to not try loss PC's HP tank if there is any other option(teleport for example).

Is there any difference from enchanting via the blacksmith, or using Stardust for Artifact things? I guess aside from the fact Stardust isn't as easy to get. I got a wish so I do have a pair of Seven League Boots I'm probably never going to take off...
>>
>>17390795
Blacksmith goes up to +10 but stardust goes all the way to +15.
You should wait till you've acidproofed and enchanted to +10 before using stardust.
Just be careful not to go too far on exceptionally powerful artifacts or you'll trigger the unfair flag and be unable to equip them.
>>
>>17390795
Enchanting via blacksmith only goes to +10, but stardust can take <> and {} items to +15.
Using it for small enchants is honestly a waste.
>>
>>17390801
unfair flag?
>>
>>17390815
If a weapon has a very large total of +to-hit and +damage on it, it will get a "it's too unfair to use" flag on it which nukes its stats.
Funny enough, this occurs by default on the Sacrifice Tonfa.
>>
>>17390828
>nukes its stats
It doesn't nuke it's stats, it prevents you from equipping it whatsoever. Sacrifice Tonfa has exactly enough hit bonus + dmg bonus (80) to qualify for a flag.
>>
>>17390840
So, theoretically, you could use a cursed acidproof potion on it to make it useable?
>>
>>17390801
>>17390811
Oh. Well. Man I really wasted that Stardust then. Really need to try things at random in Elona instead of worrying about what it might do...

Oh well, learn more and more things with every play session!
>>
>>17390858
I don't think enchantment affects this flag. At least there was nothing in code about it. Only base DV\PV and +hit\+dmg.
>>
"At the smith +10, but then you can use kits to take it up to +15. But lately people that have done that have been getting the nasty ''it is too unfair to equip'' flag preventing them from using it afterwards.

Make sure that after counting the enchantment bonus of the piece, its hit bonus + damage bonus is under 80, and the DV + PV bonus under 180. If you go over that the flag will apply unless they removed it in recent updates. "

The hell? MA is sounding better and better everyday
>>
>>17390905
Well if only base stats counted then upgrading shouldn't be able to make anything unfair. If it works for bonuses, penalties should count as well.
>>
So it's as simple as a cursed acidproof potion?
>>
>>17391163
We won't know until someone tests it.
>>
Tested some enchanting out, and I didn't actually see any numerical change in anything. Is it like a hidden bonus, or do you only get a bonus at certain thresholds or something?
>>
>>17391171
It shows up in your total PV/DV, not on the item itself.
>>
>>17390995
So as long as we don't go over +10 it all fair game to use?
>>
>>17391179
Aaaah. A bit annoying, but alright.

Been doing some thinking. It feels like if you tried to do a Heavy Armor-user you'd probably have the hardest time? Having now figured out how to use magic (without pressing 'a', tabbing twice, picking the spell...), I have to say its pretty damn useful.

And using Heavy Armor really hinders your Casting chance. While it might be really strong early on, would that really keep you going for long? Seems like trying to chase down fast enemies would be a pain.

That and, purely from a quality of life POV, using heavy armor will eat up a lot of your personal carry weight, limiting how much loot you can carry around without having to constantly 'i'nteract with your pets.
>>
>>17391215
Well non casters can still shadow step/shoot/use rods/throw shit at fast enemies with no I'll effects.
Plus you eventually get a special action after act one that super boosts your defenses if you are wearing heavy armor.
>>
>>17391215
>'i'nteract with your pets
If you just want to access their inventory, use 'G'ive.
>>
>>17391215
Ano really should add some charge/rush/ram action to multiply heavy armor PCs damage.
>>
>>17391232
I guess that's true. I should remember to try using a ranged weapon for once. I think the default hotkey is the '*' on the numpad, which I don't have. Need to figure out how you remap the hotkeys actually.

>>17391244
Ah, point. I started using this to try and give them food, since dropping it on the ground wasn't always reliable.
>>
>>17391268
You can also just flick numlock on and off
>>
>>17391272
This keyboard doesn't have a numpad. And it seems using shift + 8 to get '*' doesn't count.
>>
So my fairy farmer has been dumping food in ~rank 40 shop with lv70 negotiation genuine younger sister vendor. Got max 100k gold per night.
Then i tried to level crafting a bit and made some crappy gear with tailoring, leveled from 7 to 15.
Got 500k from selling that shit.

My inner Kumiromi worshipper wants to die now. Even in game honest farmers are getting owned hard.
>>
>>17391283
No I mean mine doesn't either. I press this button that says "Num Lk" and then I press 'p' which corresponds to *. Does yours not ave the number lock function? I am using an American English layout, maybe if yours is German or something it's different
>>
>>17391285
Yeah I regularly get millions now for dumping shit my wife makes with tailor/carpentry, farming is sort of early game money, lategame gains I think. Money can't really buy you mass herbs.
>>
Does anyone else here run cargo? I know it is slower than just getting a shop, but I've been able to make a nice little bit of change maxing my cart and buying manbo in port kapul, doing quests/selling relative cargo in the towns on my way to Noyel, and then using return back to Port Kapul loaded with Christmas trees.
>>
>>17391332
I think it can be good if you like it, considering Traveling is a wonderful skill that trains will and every other skill. If you do this, heavily consider gene engineering travelling on your pets; Alien is a good donor, I think it only gives head/neck/body? can't remember.
>>
>>17391347
Traveling is a Speed skill in E+ mate.
>>
>>17391308
You could rely on unknown and artifact seeds to profit from lategame farming, but i'd rather sell actual food.
>>
>>17391355
Oh is it? Cool. It's always such a wall of text when you arrive anywhere I never paid attention to the stat gains. Thx for lettin me know
>>
>>17391355
Also, you can just buy a little girl to fuse it.
>>
>>17391300
Nah this keyboard literally has no numpad section, so it has no Numlock button. It's some kind of 'gaming' keyboard, I guess? Even though some games still use a numpad...

Basically its a normal keyboard, but the entire part where the numpad would be is cut off and doesn't exist.
>>
>>17391390
Enjoy handicapped gamin expierence with your gaming keyboard.
>>
>>17391390
>>17391430
Roguelikes are legitimately the reason I went out of my way to ensure my keyboard had a 10-key pad on it.
>>
you could simply buy separate numpad if rebinding is too difficult.
>>
>>17391332
I have 700s capacity, and even then with 11 christmas tree one map-wide haul would represent 50k gold or so.
Not worth it when you have a rank1 shop, the super lure with a fishing rod with 5k charge of beetle bait, or really just access to 20+stars jobs.
