Why is it SO HARD to find JAV actually worth fapping to? No matter how good the cover and screenshots are, it inevitably ends up not being worth the time. Yeah, that's my main worry. I'd tell everyone how to make DRM-free copies of their DMM purchases, but they'd probably patch the loophole, which would be a worse situation than we currently have. So I have to be a bit selective in who I divulge the information to. Unfortunately, it's hard to be able to trust people on an anonymous imageboard.
It's even made me a bit hesitant to release tools to do this (once I get round to building them), in case they reverse-engineer them.
All I can suggest is for people to get out some sort of network analyser, find out how the various mechanisms DMM provide work, and figure out how to rip the videos for themselves.

Yeah, from what you've said, you've got the general idea.
Really, the only thing I do differently is… If you just use ffmpeg, it will try downloading each video chunk once, and use what it gets regardless of whether it downloaded correctly or not. Unfortunately, one chunk in several hundred tends not to download correctly.
So what I do is to use curl to download each chunk, and for any chunks that do not download correctly, download it again. Then, they all get fed into ffmpeg to produce the final video file.
I think DMM.co.jp has a slight additional security measure that R18.com doesn't have, but it's trivial to bypass.
