Roughly a month in, Symphonic Rain is averaging roughly 2.5k on Steamspy. Of those sales, the majority appears to be Chinese sales, as opposed to English or Japanese players. Looking at achievements, 68% appears to have reached the opening, while no individual ending has reached 20% completion (Fal good ending is at 19.1% of owners, while the later routes are down around 12%.

Also roughly a month in, Libra is looking to be around 2k on Steamspy. Its 23 reviews to date are nearly evenly split between Kickstarter backers and purchases on Steam. The Kickstarter itself had roughly 2.3k backers, though it is hard to estimate how many Steam keys were redeemed from the Kickstarter as more than 1000 backers for physical tiers (and the physical version went out well before the digital version), and another 250 backers hadn't joined a tier with a digital key at least before Backerkit. It's hard to estimate at this point how Libra has done relative to their expectations. Looking at achievements, 93% of owners have started up the game, 62.5% have played an hour, 20.2% have played 10 hours, and 5.4% have played 30 hours.

Dies Irae looks have stabilized around 45k owners on Steamspy. It is still getting 50-60 concurrent users on a typical day, so a fair amount of people are still playing through it. That said, the main thing to note is of the 157 reviews thus far, just 12 of those reviews were written by individuals who purchased the DLC on Steam itself (with the remainder being either Kickstarter backers or people who have only downloaded the free common route.) Obviously regardless of if it has been considered a success or failure though this point it should get a considerable boost once the anime airs this Fall, and aside from its Steam performance there is also the upcoming Vita release.

Sayori posted that Nekopara is up to 1.5 million sales worldwide (probably in part from the considerable boost of the Humble Bundle, as it hit 1 million not too long ago). Volume 3 is closing in on 150k on Steam so the series remains an exceptionally strong seller despite the decline of most other VN titles.

All they are doing is tweaking an auto insert script to work with the new ep. Not exactly comparable to porting the ep across into unity.

I respect your opinion. But to me it would be impossible to read it any other way than with the original sprites, the photo-filtered non-anime-ish backgrounds, and the original music.
It's just R07's trademark on these works. Otherwise, it doesn't work for me. The original sprites have a lot more soul and character than any later remake. The original music fits in perfectly. The photographic backgrounds give another whole different feeling than the anime ones.

I think the new steam versions were nice in respecting the audience's choice in graphics and language. Although it's a let down when Umineko didn't get the voice acting. If I were to replay Umineko, I would definitely want to enjoy the top tier voice acting from PS3 version. I'm sure that's a common complaint.

Anyway, many opinions have been written about this. But it is strange that a rerelease was done without getting rights for the voice acting and it screams a bit of cheap cash grab on my mind. I just hope the work was done with adding these in mind, in the future.
>>
>>17335916
Yes and that is just taking the translated PS3 scripts and inserting into the current engine with a few tweaks. It requires more work than the normal eps but Even doddler said he made the engine to be customisable to allow shit like that.
https://twitter.com/The_Doddler/status/485088074783670272
It also took more than a few weeks going by the release history since the original work started in feb.
https://github.com/07th-mod/higurashi-console-arcs/tags
>>
>>17335962
Voice acting isn't in the new releases of Higurashi either. There's a mod that adds it to that and Umineko.
>>
>>17335820
>Well duh, their programmer doesn't spends all his free time playing games instead of working like doodler.
Well duh, their programmer uses doddler's engine to work on and doddler himself said he'd make the game easy to mod.

Higurashi releases aren't behind schedule you child.

Also, I have some news for you. Free time is not time you spend working. Just in case that wasn't obvious. Because you know, you were obviously working when you made that post and not making use of your free time.
>>

But they are, you mong. They were all supposed to be out by the end of this year which obviously will not happens because Doodler is a lazy faggot.

>But they are, you mong.
Are you perhaps living on 2018 or are you just time travelling?
>>
>>17336171
It is just someone with a grudge against Doddler. They have been trying to stir shit up for the past month or so and the new tactic is to complain about his work on Higurashi since they failed with the Aroduc one.
>>
>>17336210
Nah that's some other cuck who will look for any reason to complain about doddler. I'm just sick of waiting 6 fucking months for each 5-15 hour higurashi chapter

>>17336821
After translation and editing comes scripting which is the insertion of the text on the original engine. On Higurashi case, all chapters are being ported to Unity (a new engine) so it may take longer than usual.

If you've been following these threads, you should already know that some people simply can't understand that and feel entitled to immediately demand to have the game available without any regard for others.
>>
>>17335962
Oddly enough, I found the voice acting in Umineko to be distracting. The cast is perfect, but given just how much text there is, I think it slows down the pacing (and the pacing of Umineko is already its largest problem). As slow as Ep1 and Ep2 are before the first Twilight, I cannot imagine how much worse they would be if I had to read George and Shannon's voiced aquarium date. Also Maria's UUUUUUUUUUUUs are annoying in text-- I cringe at the thought of listening to each one.
>>

Oh wait, I forgot you're by his side 24 hours per day and can confirm this is true. Doddler doesn't need to have any fun. He should work like a slave 24/7 just to inflate your autistic ass with even no need for rest. Fuck other projects and he's real life work too.
>>
>>17337441
For autistic reasons, someone is trying to push the invented idea that doddler is lazying around specially on Higurashi. Higurashi chapter 5 wasn't even released 3 months ago and doddler is working on multiple projects.
>>
>>17337447
Canadians deserve no sympathy.
>>
>>17337465

>>
>>17334408
It's not very good imo; I dropped it after reading 2 routes. There's a lot of forced melodrama and silly conflict. Sirone's (the android's) route is probably the only one worth reading.
>>
>>17337785
Is it a case of trying to pander to the western audience?
>>
>>17337692
Which demonstrates your inability to inform yourself.
>>
>>17337790
I'm not quite sure what you mean by "pandering to western audience", but that might actually be the case. At the ending of every route there is this strange English segment to close out the route, and it's really awkwardly worded. Like it was written by some old Japanese guy with no sense of English.
>>
>>17337822
Then when doodshit going to start working on Higurashi?
>>
>>17337907
When I asked him he didn't give me a reply. Sad!
>>
>>17337850
I'd say Grisaia: Phantom Trigger is a good example of western pandering. They make it very generic and throw in every cliche that they think the western audience wants. In the end you end up with a very unoriginal story that you feel you've already seen before.
>>
>>17337465

It's a couple of r07 thread retards that migrated to this thread for some reason. They're furious that their ten year old game isn't being given the absolute highest priority.
>>
Why is there a lack of programmers in the scene? Doddlers great but seeing the number of releases getting stalled at scripting and porting is sad. Is it that hard to attract them to the scene?
>>
>>17338292
If you have a degree (comp engineering/comp science for example) and/or previous experience in the field, landing an actual job that pays well even at the starting level is pretty easy, and I don't really see why one would find working on stuff like visual novels to be the more attractive alternative, unless maybe as a side job that you do during your free time since money is never enough.
>>
>>17338329

Cant they pickup some hobbyists then? people working on emulators and shit?
>>
>>17338390
They either don't fit whatever standards/requirements the companies are looking for or, more likely, nobody wants to do that shit.
That and I have this hunch the pay fucking sucks, but it's just my impression and I may be wrong.
>>
>>17338390
>>17338292
The people working on emulators can have some spotty qualifications (and code standards can sometimes be lacking on those projects) and basically do that shit in their free time. If you look at the progress of the non-crowdfunded emulators you can see the progress on them isn't really that fast, while the only the higher income crowdfunded ones end up with people quitting their day job.
There are also more problems like how different engines can require someone to know multiple languages (and put up with poor Japanese coding practices) as well as needing to know about how Unity works for the porting work.
The pay is probably also a big factor since I can't imagine it is good or else far more people would be in the scene across all the publishing companies. Instead they end up sharing people like Doddler and the small few others who are around.
>>
>>17337785
I thought there was a true route (the android in this case) but it appears that's not true. All routes are available since the start. Am I correct?

Regarding the pandering to western audience, I think that takes away one of the reasons why Visual Novels started to gain name outside of japan. We liked what the developers made for their japanese audience so why change the products to something that another audience feels more familiar with? This takes away some of the uniqueness of japanese Visual Novels.

The true route, ironically, is actually the character with the most forced conflict. You unlock it after playing the other two (one being the android), which are both available from the start. The other route is really fucking insufferable, because rather than writing an enjoyable route, the authors just want to drill this fucking theme into our heads over and over again. And once I saw the crap that was in the true route, I just dropped it right then and there.

Regarding pandering in Trinoline, I've read very few VNs that were released with the western audience in mind, so I really can't say how much it panders.

Chuusotsu just hit it a stretch goal in backerkit. Only one more stretch goal to go, for a physical artbook as an add-on.

So far the stretch goals have added to the game: 4 new CGs are being made for it, it's getting a new opening, and it's getting a 1-2 hour long side story.

There is a difference between a 3rd party mod and an official content patch distributed by the publisher. Not quite the same, but the ESRB rules have already been the reason why MG has removed a couple all ages titles with Steam ESRB ratings from their storefront (and had to distinguish between the Steam and MG storefront versions of Gahkthun).
>>
>>17347702
>the ESRB rules have already been the reason why MG has removed a couple all ages titles with Steam ESRB ratings from their storefront
That was because they weren't allowed to sell non-AO rated games on a site that advertised and sold adult games. Steam's porn is all offsite.

Not really much to discuss right now. The Denpa page seems to be back up. It just has a login screen along with a countdown set for midnight the 24th. >>

Wonder how many will shun it due to trauma induced by the Sakura series.

>>
>>17349508
>>17349527
Unlike something like Next Ninja which was looking for a low effort cash grab in a hot market they knew little about, there seem to be people involved who were already within the general otaku community, so I wouldn't be surprised if they do pursue R18 releases. For what it is worth, the Hoshimemo translator noted that he is going to be working on "some upcoming titles" (but not Sakura Sakura) for SolPress, so they seem intent on trying to start with a bang and get multiple projects up and running quickly.
>>
>>17349774
An actual competitor to the market might be good, can't be worse than SP, right?

It would be amazing if they can go once a month like MG can, but I highly doubt it. Maybe if they get enough successes.
>>
>>17349817
>can't be worse than SP, right?

As bad as SP is there are already plenty of equal or worse options. MoeNovel, E2, that shit at the start of the thread, etc.
>>
>>17349817
It could easily work out the other way if they have their own problems trying to get off the ground, especially with Sekai's recent improvements.

Although as a new competitor, their challenge will be that the market they are trying to join is already quite crowded (especially if you include the parade of OELVNs), and Steam is hardly the promised success it used to be. At the very least their launch title probably won't be a big hit, being an older title (that will be SD unless there is a remastered PC version made for the Kickstarter) that isn't particularly well known (although a wild card is being called Sakura Sakura which could help or hinder it.)
>>
>>17349833
MoeNovel been focusing on making OELVNs based on one of Pulltop's old titles and E2 is literally a scam. I would hesitate to actually call them translating competitors. YumeHaven likewise has only done Shuffle too.

SP, for all its faults, is an actual localization company that has put out multiple titles, making it more of a competitor than the others listed.
>>
>>17349846
>unless there is a remastered PC version made for the Kickstarter
I'm not sure about the extent, but the Japanese dev's twitter account mentions renewed screen-sizes for the occasion (at least according to GT)

>>
>>17349817
They're new, so they don't have much money. I expect them to be like Fruitbat Factory and pursue mostly cheap licenses.

Plus, them already talking about going into manga and light novels makes me think they're not very dedicated to VNs and could end up spreading themselves too thin.
>>
>We had a very productive meeting with KeroQ today, and we're in full swing to get launched very soon! Look forward to a launch date shortly!
Subahibi soon.
>>
>>17350778
With the website oriented towards LNs and a company name of Sol Press, I'm guessing that their initial pursuit was LNs but they were ready to move forward with a VN first. Nevertheless, Sakura Sakura probably wasn't the cheapest VN out there to license (nor the most expensive), and it remains to be seen what the other VNs they are pursuing.
>>
>>17350979
Sakura Sakura is almost a decade old, so it likely wasn't too expensive.
>>
>>17343597
Here's my quick edit of it.
>"Motherfucker! I'm going to kill you!"
>He roared in outrage as he reached for something underneath the bench-- shit! It's a metal bat!
>"Really?!"
>He charged towards me, swinging it down.
>"Wait! Stop!"
>"Fuck you! DIE!"
>My words were pointless. It was clear that he was in the midst of a drug induced psychosis. There would be no reasoning with him. After all, he was the kind of guy who stashed murder weapons in public places. Just my fucking luck.

My thoughts of why this edit are appropriate.
1) The first sentence is a threat. While "I'll kill you" would be a simpler translation, it actually comes across in English as a conditional phrase or as more intellectual than "I'm going to kill you".
2) Unbelievable is used in English with a generally positive connotation or as a descriptor for things we think impossible or unlikely. The meaning the author wants to convey is that he is shouting something that defies the common senses in a negative and violent way.
3) "It's a metal bat!" comes across as a "No shit, Sherlock" statement in English. While Japanese can have ambiguity regarding subjects/objects/etc, this is not present in conventional English. The reason to say "It's a metal bat!" is a surprise or panic reaction.
4) I am guessing "Really?" is honto. I decided to add an exclamation point to capture incredulity at the action. However, I might have just went with "Fuck!" since the point is that this is a surprised utterance.
5) I added words to clarify what is happening. Here the original author is actually being retarded since his protagonist is basically standing still for what must be 4-10s of action (reaching under a bench to grab a bat, closing distance).
6) MC is trying to get the guy to stop through conversation. We would not say "No way!" in a pleading sense.
7) English would begin with the insult and end with the threat.
8) Turned the rest of the mess into something to get across those points better.

I want thoughts on this approach to editing or translation as I plan to work this liberally with anything I TL. Acceptable or not?

A quick look, at the website, the titles seem to be mostly in the same order as the old long term sort (at least for now, the release of Wagamama High Spec next week should let us see if it remains sorted). Beyond that, they kept most of the same layout but changed some things around such as adding the ability to see multiple images of a title on the main page, a search function, and spots on the game pages for FAQs/Tags/Reviews. Tag wise they are using Mosaic/Uncensored to indicate which titles have mosaics removed. Then of course there is the obvious change of it now using Shopify.

You basically need to prove you can translate either by doing a chunk scripts in just notepad or showing some past stuff you have done. There are so many projects that fall apart because the translator over estimated their ability and so it puts off the people who have ability from helping (you can still find plenty of people willing to "edit" and such if you just ask of fuwa).

Probably i could be Overestimating my Translation Skills, but since as a ESL i managed with this same way to learn English to a point i can write with it almost correctly , i'm pretty sure that if i were able to have all the text all at once and not having to write it down sentence per sentence would both Improve my Moonpanese skills and
be able to translate Himanatsu completely.

>>17362171
Well there i should see if i can really manage to translate something like this.
I've played this game several times since it came out in 2013 i know its both a mid-famous VN, and a long one , it has 4 Heroines in total which one of them has even 2 Routes all for herself.
Basically i would need only the programmer to get first my hands on the scripts more quickly, Since my tries to get hold of the scripts with some decoders just ended in plain failures.
But since i've played this game i know its a Game that deserve a translation, and i'd suggest anyone who wanted to read some comfy Supernatural Vn to read it.
>>
>>17362209
The translator being ESL can be generally fine for a fan translation as long as they are getting the correct meaning across. The editor being ESL is another matter though.
>>
>>17362221
Like someone mentioned earlier if you can't access the script directly then use a texthooker/something like VNR to copy across the exact lines into a text editor where you can translate it. Then upload a copy somehwere (showing both the Japanese and Translated line) and then either post here or hongfire or fuwa so people can scrutinise it while mentioning you are looking for someone who can work as your programmer.
As long as it looks like you are good enough someone will likely, at minimum, extract the scripts for you to work with (since BGI isn't an obscure engine) and if you are lucky they might say they will also offer to reinsert them as well.
>>
>>17362227
Well translating from Jap in a comprehensible way is a thing i'm MORE than sure i can handle.

I adore the shit out of himanatsu. The countryside atmosphere is comfy as hell and is still stuck in me even though its been like years since I read it. Not to mention the wonderful makura art.
Perhaps you can do like 100-200 or so lines to establish some credibility, and as a simulation for yourself to calculate the scale and impact it'll have on your life. You can then either try to recruit a hacker by making a blog post or post here, even. Maybe finding an editor the same way as well. If you can prove yourself, it's surprisingly easy how helpful people can be to spread the word!
The only thing I'd worried about is since KeroQ is working with FrontWing to localize Subahibi, down the road perhaps Himanatsu from Makura might get picked up as well even if you didn't start working on it. Considering how much effort you will be putting in on this if you ever go through with it, I can't tell if its a good thing or not for you, or the people who's going to become your editors. I'd just get too paranoid and avoid the potential official titles if I could.
I hope you're serious and brave enough to go through with it despite all that, editors/hackers may come and go, but as long as you're staying and making progress, the project will most definitely succeed. Good luck!
>>
>>17362464
Since now i'm the Himanatsu's ESL, I will try to show myself a bit more in these threads to get some advice while i try to translate it, i have some Lines already translated but i'd see if i can at least translate it to a ten minutes play or something to begin with.

The site will in fact not have download links for previously purchased items. However, the download link provided in your checkout page and the email sent to you will contain a download link that will work permanently. So as long as you keep your emails, you will always have the download link for that item, or you can save the link from the checkout page.

Apparently, the reason for this is that they are using a managed service provider for the store and a different one for the database, and they do not provide an API to pull your personalized download link data to put on the order page. A support ticket will be able to retrieve and resend you download links for your past orders, however.

TL;DR: No more DDL from account page, save the links from checkout page, or the email you receive which contains the download link. I still don't fully understand this decision, but as long as you aren't the OCD type who deletes all your emails, you should be fine.

The tools on TLWiki work for this game, I tested it to make sure. The steps are pretty simple.
First you need to download ExtractData. The version on TLWiki will suffice. Use that program, open the .arc files in the game's directory with it, and then dump them. You want to dump them all and delete the useless ones later (images, most likely) or you can sift through the scripts to see what you'll need. I haven't done that.

After that, you just need to use the BGI tools. The regular dumper/inserter will work. All you need to do is make sure you have python installed. Open a command prompt in the same directory as the script files, and type "py bgi_dump.py" followed by the script file you want to dump. That should work.
I'd upload the dumped scripts myself but I didn't dump them all, I just did a few to test that it works with this version of BGI.
My suggestion to you is to dump whatever arc file has some bits of the common route, TL that, and see if you can use that to get a proper hacker or to gauge your dedication.
>>
>>17363005
Thank you anon, I will try to follow these steps when I get home from work , hoping to not screw something up in the process , if I can get the scripts I'll continue my translations right away at full speed.
Since it's quite a large VN I'm guessing I'll take definitely a large amount time to translate it, but if I can really stick to my guns , I want to end up translating at least The main route completely before asking someone if he want to patch it up.

I managed to extract the files, and like

Suggested i got the Scripts from the Arc. Files Using the Extractor and simply opening with a .txt file, i was looking around understanding which were Events-Images and Scripts files , and even the Audio files, i didn't use Python or BGI tools since i'm just following the game and meanwhile looking every script is there.

Dunno if i'm doing this right (or at least right enough).
Anyway, i was checking the events/image files and all of them after Extracting them turns into Black .bmp files, is that an issue that can be fixed by using Python?
