Fate fan here. About to dive into Tsukihime. How is it compared

...and by finish, I mean playing it until I got a bad end. It never seemed right that I should get a second chance. That was my story, I died a dog's death inside my own house by the hands of a man I did not even know.

alright someone here who has read both and to say I did end up reading tsukihime first

I'll keep it short, both Fate and Tsukihime are good in my opinion if you keep your mind open and you already did with Fate, with Fate you have a history that would be considered more dynamic but what I like from Tsukihime is the fact that is more centered on it's own mystery, with each route giving you more insight of the mindset behind every character actions and explaining them

The art is passable but not comparable to Fate, character wise they stuck with me more than Fate did cause the routes help develop every character and while the music is as simple as it can get it was fitting for it's scenes albeit a little too repetitive, it suffers for being much older

still is my favorite out of the 2 and I would highly recommend it

Tsukihime is great, I don't think it's as good as F/SN but it's very close. Just read it. If you liked F/SN you'll probably like Tsukihime as well.

Fate plays hard and fast with the heroic action scenes, while Tsukihime feels more subtle. It falls into the same pitfall of "in order to succeed I just have to BELIEVE IN MYSELF HARDER" though.

The lore of Tsukihime feels less convoluted, but that might just be me.

it's got a charm in its simplicity, as does the music. There are better VNs by far but I don't think I will enjoy another as much as I did reading tsukihime as my first.

There is a reason why people cherish shitty live recordings, first drafts, and prototypes over polished products sometimes; you get some insight into the author's mindset that often gets trimmed out for the sake of brevity, clarity, or mass appeal.

I also like how much works like Tsukihime show what the real appeal of VNs is. It's a massively popular VN with (comparatively) shitty art, meh music, shitty ero etc. So we can clearly see that the story is the real appeal of VNs.

Something like Higurashi is the same.

I actually really preferred Tsukihime to F/S Night. Fate gets better because its story gets extended in sequels and side stories but 1v1 Iiked Tsukihime better.

The art is a bit primitive but the writing is quite good. It might have been the first VN I 100%'d.

Kagetsu Tohya is probably my favorite Type-Moon work and I find it to be pretty fascinating. It's almost like a open world visual novel, with a massive amount of freedom given to the player to choose where to go, and a ton of hidden content for you to accidentally stumble across. I'd really like to see more visual novels like it, but at the same time I can't imagine how hard it must have been to make that clusterfuck and have it come out really well.
