How am I supposed to beat this part? I've let it deduct my score by resetting 30 times now and I still can't get past that guys second form.

Should I just start over completely? I'm not even having fun at this point

Don't worry about score on your first playthrough. Releasing 5 prisoners at a time will give you an item to level up a unit.

Have you been clearing dungeons to level up your commanders?

"commander battles" are completely different from troop battles. Level and which character are the only things considered. So the key is really to just get a lot of storyline commanders, since they tend to have better levels.

Quite frankly, judging by how few territories you have, I think you should just reset. Use what you learned from this playthrough and do better a second time. Try to get a lot more territory, and hopefully also some new, strong commanders.

Yes, the first 15 days I had absolutely no idea what I was doing. I've been clearing the dungeons for the rank ups, the one with the double level 60s at the end isn't beatable yet though.

I don't fucking understand. I'm trying to conquer territory, but around turn 24-25 it's inevitable for Tenshi to attack you so I'm being attacked on two fronts. And there appears to be an assassin who one shots a random commander each time I load up a fight?

Do I just defend and attempt to stall out better stats?

Yes, the fight with Tenshi is indeed inevitable. I'm pretty sure there's no way to stall it.

You can try to predict it and do your best to not be at war at that point. But I can't remember how reliable the timing is, and you might not be able to wrap things up that well.

If you're hurting for commanders, I'm going to guess you haven't been calling for reinforcements. From Rance's satisfaction bonus, do 'call for reinforcements'. Then you get to select between Zeth and Leazus. A few turns later you'll get a new commander as a start-of-turn event, or by triggering the "Accept reinforcements" action in Owari if it got pre-empted.

Each of the two countries has 3 different units that can be sent to you. The first one you get isn't especially great, but the later 2 are pretty good. I recommend starting with Zeth, because the 2nd commander you get is an extremely useful tactician with a high level, so she'll help a ton in both troop battles and commander battles.

No I have, but it feels like anyone outside Rance and the two or three starting generals doesn't do any real damage. Is there a way to grind them out stronger? I let the Tanuki people take their territory back, and I'm attempting to take the last Tenshi battle but I literally can't do enough damage and lose to the Scythe guy and his 3 healers.

Call for reinforces every time you can. Second Zeth commander is amazing in dungeons but going Leazas three times in a row is a great result as well.

Honnouji event happens when 5th gourd is broken. Taking Iga is a waste of resources they don't give you a commander but break a gourd. Uesugi is the easiest greater house to take and they give you a god-tier warrior and above-average tactician. You might want to take the house before Honnouji.

Take the Mikos for god's sake, Natori is god-tier. Never make vassals, you can play around with that in later playthroughs when you know how the events will play out.

These are pretty much all the things you need to do to safely beat the game.

All the stats are hidden besides level and HP, which you can see increasing after a level up. Basically the higher the better.

Anyone got something for this? I'm stuck defending two sides and I can't finish off Tenshi still. Cleared the 3 dungeons available and released prisoners for level ups and it hasn't helped

Here's a pic, I don't want to wait too many days or I'll end up like my other playthrough in the OP.

This is the squad I'm using, I basically re-load until Suzume one-hits their guard right off the bat but I still can't do enough damage to beat them. As you can see I have all the reinforcements possible

Here is where I currently stand, what should I be trying to do? I can't take any territory with the people I'm at war with, because I simply can't do enough damage to win the fights. Will I eventually level up if I keep defending? I've got 3 reinforcements and they barely do any damage, I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.

Take over the tanuki house. You get a good commander from there, and it's possible to capture some of the lesser tanuki as well. They're better than generics at least.

Then, as others said, take the mikos. You get Natori, and she's a decent unit with an amazing ability. One of the few miko-type units worth using.

Defeating Tenshiism doesn't give you any units, but it does put an end to the riots. One thing you could try is simply not attacking them, and let them wear themselves out attacking you. You can get a defense bonus depending on the terrain type, which should make it a lot easier to hold them off. If they run out of units they'll stop attacking you for a while.

Defeating Asai-Asakura gives a unit, but not a very useful one. Leave them alone for now.

Instead, you should try to fight Uesugi. Beat them and you get Kenshin, and she's insanely powerful, both in troop and commander battles.

"Level" is a commander-battle stat. It has absolutely no effect on troop battles. Similarly, ATK, DEF, etc are troop stats, and have no effect on commander battles.

There's a number of characters who are really good in commander battles but suck in troops battles, and vice versa. Rance is actually an example; at the start, he's weaker than Ranmaru (but gets autoheal and she doesn't), but has a higher level and is thus much stronger in commander battles. He's individually strong and selfish, with little experience leading troops, so his unit is poor at first.

You have been strengthening him, which is good; obviously you use him a lot so he should be strong.

I also see an ATK of 7 for Rizna. That's bad. She uses her Int stat for damage, since she's a mage.

(Int is magic defense for all characters, determines the number of starting buffs for tacticians and the strength of all buffs, and the guard% for footsoldiers)
