I don't see how you could miss the point harder. Of course that I prefer long vowels to be romanized fully, but I don't make a big fuss about it.
The reason why it's an issue in SukiSuki is that Yuuki and Yuki are both already existing and commonly used first names. When you remove the long vowel during romanization, you effectively change the name to the other one.
When someone sees "Yuki", they think of it as Yuki (with furigana ゆき), they read is as Yuki. They wouldn't even think of it as something else.
To use an example from another language, when you see the name "John", of course you're going to read is as John. You wouldn't think that you should read the name as "Johann". You wouldn't think that someone Englishized the name, even though the other name was already existing, and perfectly fine to use.
There's another long vowel name in SukiSuki - Souta. It's not a big fucking deal if they pick Souta or Sota in the localization. Yuuki/Yuki is something else and IS a big deal.
>>
>>17019011
>When someone sees "Yuki", they think of it as Yuki (with furigana ゆき),
I wonder how long it'll take this guy to figure out why this argument is a pointless one to make when talking about english localizations...
>>
>>17019024
Unless you're a dumbass, you don't read two different names the same way. When you know there's a short/long vowel difference between the two names, then you can pronounce them correctly. Otherwise, you might as well pronounce them as "yucky". If you want to pander to rednecks who have never read a VN before and who refuse to learn new things, then the best option for romanizing the name would be "Youki", because they would read is as Yuuki automatically.
>>
>>17019042
how would an english person know there's a long vowel sound in Yuuki? there is no established formal sound in english for "uu". Most "uu" sounds are loan words from latin, like continuum which has 2 distinct short vowel sounds or vacuum which has a long u.

which is the problem with keeping something in english that means nothing in english - you aren't establish any piece of information. you aren't establishing a long vowel sound at all.

A long u sound is denoted in english with a single u. Compare the length of the vowel sounds in "tube" vs "vacuum".

so all your arguments that the double u romanization will mean the reader will understand it's a "long u" is false. it means precisely nothing to the reader.
>>
>>17018738
It seems like Moonstone wishes to get their catalogue translated. They at some point were looking to E2 for Magical Marriage Lunatics and Angel Ring (though one can only hope absolutely nothing came out of that), and announced Loved Sweets as a self publish title.

Granted they've been quiet about Love Sweets since last Summer so that could have ended up with MangaGamer by now. Either way MG should have some new Moonstone title to announce at AX with them bringing over a Moonstone artist as an AX guest.
>>
>>17019078
And how would an english person (read: a steam normalfag who has literally never come in contact with Japanese media) know that Yuki is not pronounced [jʌki]? Nevermind the fact that they would never be reading this visual novel in the first place. Those people are irrelevant, as are you.
Good job on not responding to any arguments and reposting the same thing as here >>17016305.
You've already established yourself as a retard who wouldn't care if all the names were switched up, so please don't reply to me again.
>>
>>17019163
Either way is fine provided they get decent translators. Moonstone has some pretty nice games. Fuck E2 though.
>>
>>17019170
i am here replying to you again because a) i don't care what you say, b) i don't care what you think, and c) you're quite autistic so nobody's going to listen to you anyway.

most people pronounce yuki in english with a long u, because of customs already set within the language. a longer "u" isn't achieved with a double "u", so it doesn't matter about your worries of mispronunciation, the pertinent matter is that a double "u" doesn't solve it. thus your solution shouldn't be used forever wacky pronunciation corrections you want to fix in the english readers.

english localizations are not aimed at those who know japanese. if you know japanese you should be reading the game in japanese.

and lastly congratulations, you badly misinterpreted my argument from the last thread. that's to be expected though, you're the retard who thinks a double "u" in english denotes a long vowel sound

Not that it's any relevant, but let's see how words in English starting with yu are pronounced, shall we?
Yummy - What is this? Not long u? Just a coincidence, right?
Yucca - That's short, but don't mind it
Yucky - that's wrong again, fuck.
Do I need to go on? Why is an ESL like you trying to talk about the English language in a conversation where it's completely irrelevant?
>>
>>17019231
Stop replying to him already. Don't feed the retard.
>>
>>17019231
>Not that it's any relevant, but let's see how words in English starting with yu are pronounced, shall we?
lol, please continue making arguments, you sound more clueless with every one you make. maybe i'll look up how people pronounce fucker as a clue to how people pronounce futon. no english speaker thinks this, so you're either ESL or retarded. no harm being ESL, plenty of harm being retarded though.

the pertinent words in your list are yucky and yukky. that is, the "u" sound before the "k" sound is often short only when there's a "c" modifying the k, or when there's a double "k". Yuki has none of these, which is why MOST people won't pronounce it with a short "u" sound.

If you mean Baldr, then there's no TL yet, obviously.
Chrono Clock's translation is indeed terrible (dearest brother, senpai->name, chavspeak every time a certain characters opens her mouth). Just to list a few.

I can deal with most of what you mentioned, but what do you mean by chavspeak? Are there parts where the meaning is completely changed because of the translation?

Then fuck you too. You're dovac's target audience.

If there's voice acting on said lines I can make out stuff like honorrifics and names like senpai/onii-chan. Sure it's stupid to translate them as senpai-name and such but I won't let something like that prevent me from reading a visual novel I'm interested in. I care more if the translation is completely wrong at parts, and my little bit Japanese knowledge won't let me know if that is the case.
>>

Because it's related to a VN's English existence.

It's a review of Grisaia Phantom Trigger that mentions how the game and its heroines got boring in an attempt to pander to English players.

If you mean the old torrents (since you mentioned sukebei), then it was because they were buggy as hell (plus had a high chance of being incompatible with newer revisions of a patch patch that might contain fixes) and most of the time the people who were complaining about crashes and other problems turned out to have got a fuwa torrent.

Reminder, Doddler has full access to Aroduc's translation of Baldr Sky, and unlike Aroduc, he is working with Sekai Project on it. Don't be surprised if SP's release -somehow- looked suspiciously identical to Aroduc's with a few words changed here and there to completely screw him.

Started work on this after someone ported Ever17's translation to the PSP version.

Something that might bring a smile to fans of Ace Attorney, Jake Hunter and CING games.
I'm looking into porting some obscure English scripts for a certain VN series to a bunch of DS visual novels and I need help.

The series is J.B.Harold. It's a cool visual novel series set in New York made by Riversoft, which went eventually bankrupt and some of the stuff brought the rights for the series and re-released it, and some of the stuff joined CinG to work on games like Hotel Dusk, and Another Memory.

There were 5 main releases from 1987 to 1995 on the X6800, PC98, and some console ports.

1- Murder Club
2- Manhattan Requiem
3- Kiss of Murder
4- D.C. Connection
5- Blue Chicago Blues

Here's where it gets crazy. Devs were westaboo so they had most of these games (1,2,3,5 at least) fully voice acted in English for their Laserdisc versions.
Yet, only 1, 2 and 5 got official US releases with dual language text onscreen, and 2/5 are stuck to obscure Laserdisc versions I can't find any ISOs of online so that I can extract the text.

1, 2, and 3 were remade for flap phones, then the Nintendo DS, then iOS.
English Laserdisc script somehow made it to the iOS version of Manhattan Requiem.

I'm interested in porting the text to the following DS versions:
J.B. Harold Satsujin Jiken (1)
J.B. Harold Manhattan Requiem + Kiss of Murder (2+3)

I have 1 covered already - POC in screenshot - not reflective of the content. Not perfect, but at least covers the main body of the text.
Not doing Kiss of Murder because only its audio is in English and unless it covers the whole game, that would be useless. It would need to be transcribed and probably some translation to fill in the blanks.

So

TL;DR
I just need an ipa of the Manhattan Story iOS release to extract the text from the binary and insert it in the DS version (android peasant)
In return, everyone gets 2 new English visual novels on their Nintendo DS. Not just iOS users. Win-win.
>>
>>17033047
What did you try?

Why didn't it work?
>>
>>17033440
Wouldn't it actually benefit Sekai instead? If Aroduc hands out his finished translation for free, they can just take it for free and sell their game with it.
>>
>>17034891
That's not how copyright law works. At all.
>>
>>17030270
So now he actually opens up to such renowned kamiges?
>>
>>17034029
>Stealth release is possible.
If he had released a partial it might have been possible, since "someone else" could claim to have taken it and finished it off. Just releasing such a large game out of the blue with the knowledge that Sekai has it licensed makes it easy to shorten down the list of candidates.
>>
>>17035086
To add on to that, the only real chance of Aroduc safely releasing it would now to wait a while until after Sekai has it released and put it under a "re-translation" project like how Konosora has one.
>>
>>17033464
This sucks. Hope someone ports the translation into PS3.
>>
>>17033256
He just told you that there aren't plans on the table for it...
(((They))) have other translated projects to "negotiate with".
>>
>>17032960
>The latest sekai project release has flopped on steam as expected.

They actually had two non-Japanese titles thus far this month, both seemed to have had disappointing launches (both peaking at less than 10 concurrent users, although still better than Companion). Their only non-Japanese title to have gained any traction thus far this year seems to have been Sweetest Monster. Granted they also have had disappointments with some doujin titles as well so their issues are hardly limited to OELVNs. Their pipeline probably has quite a bit more upcoming that was already put in motion, but I'd expect them to be in the process of becoming much more selective on the crap they decide to fund.

>So when's their next kickstarter to prop up their failing company.

They have more Nekopara coming out in a couple weeks, they'll be fine. It's quite remarkable how Nekopara has held its popularity even as all the other fads have faded. Nekopara volume 1 hit 111 concurrent users over this last ordinary weekend.

>>17034690
I'm guessing the details would be behind NDAs (and Doddler wouldn't spill details either way). While I can't imagine Aroduc and Dovac being a good team to try to negotiate even if Doddler were to act as an intermediary, but with how much they miss out on (Aroduc spent months on a now useless translation, Sekai lost probably a year or two in time to release it while getting a PR headache) I have to think that they were quite far apart on what each of them wanted when negotiations broke off.

>>17034891
While Sekai obviously would be able to take action against Aroduc if he were to distribute his translation, Aroduc is still the owner of his translation and Sekai cannot use it without him approving it, even if it were distributed in an unauthorized way.
>>
>>17032960
I'm sure they'll announce Baldr Sky's kickstarter any day now.
>>
>>17035283
>Nekopara volume 1 hit 111 concurrent users over this last ordinary weekend
That might be exactly because vol.3 is coming out very soon.
>>
>>17033047
>That would be pretty unethical

And Sekai Project has never done anything unethical ever. Not once. Not for every Kickstarter they've ever run.
>>
>>17034495
seems rather obscure... is it any good?
>>
>>17035868
Nekopara's recent performance really isn't anything exceptional for it, it has constantly been doing far better than any of the other 2014 meme titles. Sakura Spirit's high for 2017 thus far has been 32 concurrent users and Go Go Nippon has averaged a daily peak in the 10-20 range with a 2017 high of 54 concurrent users during a sale. By contrast, Nekopara Volume 1's single quietest day in 2017 thus far still had a daily peak of 54 concurrent users (equal to GGN's best), and it managed to hit 305 concurrent users during the anime games sale last month.
>>
>>17035889
Unethical with people they care about. They don't care if they fuck fans over because you can always find new suckers but if translators stop working for them they're fucked.
>>
The Libra team updated again saying everything has been submitted for Valve to review.
>>
>>17036174
Aroduc's not working for them already. They don't care if they fuck him over.
>>
I still remember how I was cautiously happy about Baldr Sky announcement at first, then I heard that it is very possible there will be no 18+ scenes to doom my immortal soul, then came entire mess with Aroduc, then no news for almost entire year.

My enthusiasm is now somewhere between zero and absolute zero.
>>
>>17036369
A year of diligent study and you'd possibly be able to play it in Japanese with light dictionary help for less common technical terms.

Instead you've chosen to be EOP'd.
>>
>>17035283
Neither Aroduc or Sekai trusted each other at all, there was no way they were going to be able to agree on something that made them both happy. It's a huge waste, Aroduc loses his entire translation progress, Sekai loses a year or more of potential progress and public image.
>>
>>17036348
How can they fuck him over? They can't demand him to give the completed TL as Aroduc could just simply say that he was lying the whole time and they wouldn't able to do jack.

Doddler's not obliged to give them anything either, even if he has the completed BS patch or anything, he could say that he deleted it after the announcement and he didn't back it up. SP can't do anything if the translators aren't willing.

Valve has decided to delay releasing trading cards on games. Think this might reduce VN sales? If a VN doesn't sell very well, then it might not drop cards at all depending on the number Steam set the requirement to.

>Valve said it has decided to "remove the economic incentive" of the Card system first by not releasing Cards until a game has reached a "confidence metric" that demonstrates that a game is actually real.

>"Once a game reaches that metric, cards will drop to all users, including all the users who've played the game prior to that point," Valve said. "So going forward, even if you play a game before it has Trading Cards, you'll receive cards for your playtime when the developer adds cards and reaches the confidence metric."

>>
>>17043900
Don't have the CG's but let me save you some time. Don't read it, I have never been so disappointed by a work. It has an extremely strong start, dies around the middle, and barely gets back up to par at the end.
>>
>>17043580
Not expecting a ton out of Anime Central, but if there are any surprises they'll probably be from Sekai/Denpasoft instead of MG as one MG title is pretty much known and the latter is quite restrictive as to what it can be since it seems to be an R18 gameplay title from an existing partner that will be ready for release in June.

Of course, trying to guess Sekai/Denpa doujin stuff is an impossible task, but if they have enough full length titles in the pipeline they could announce something here (especially since they don't have an Otakon panel planned), and there is the potential of getting a Denpasoft update on an existing title as well. Regardless of any bigger announcements, some more nukige for Denpasoft seems likely since they haven't had a panel since October, as well as some shorter indie/doujin Sekai title. Any potential big bets with Denpasoft along with whatever the best thing in the pipeline for either a Sekai or a Sekai/Denpa dual release should be held off until AX though.

MG's second announcement is a wild card for me, because last year they took Anime Central to announce the Waffle partnership. Next title seems to be a Hentai Industries title, so that's probably the gameplay title Kouryuu mentioned in the podcast. The way he worded it made it seem like an in house translated title, but ah well. It's possible that he meant that the next first party title would be a gameplay title rather than the next release directly after Sweet Young Bride though.

I can't really give any good guesses for the second game. Most possible titles I can think of that were implied in the hints will probably be saved until AX or Otakon.
>>

>>17044467
>I hope that's not the second announcement though.

It's not that it would be the second announcement, but rather the second announcement isn't limited to the conditions Kouryuu gave about an upcoming gameplay title when he was discussing future releases.

If it's DRAMAtical Murder, than definitely. I wonder if they got an otome game to go along with it like last year. Miss Lonesome is being planned to come out soon after all.

For Denpasoft, I'm expecting either some dlsite tier eroge or maybe an ero OELVN.

Sekai the same except no ero. Maybe information on future kickstarters though.

MG announcing Kyonyuu Fantasy Gaiden is fairly obvious. They might through in 2 just for shock value. It would be kind of funny.

Assuming that the HI title is the gameplay title Kouryuu was talking about, that leaves the second slot open for pretty much anything. I suspect a short nukige like Please Bang My Wife 2 since the only short one they have announced so far is Sweet Young Bride. They aren't exactly running out of short nukige to release though between Hentai Industries and Umesoft. The biggest possible announcement would be an AS game if they have a huge Alicesoft announcement saved for AX, and they felt like announcing 2 AS games this year, but I doubt it.

>>17044387
It's vaguely possible that they might announce it in AC so it won't be overshadowed by the Alicesoft game in Otakon. I think announcing both at the same convention won't be too bad, but I could see them announcing one at AX and the other at Otakon for this reason.

>It's been two months since the announcement that BS would be officially localized, but the open question still remains: "By whom?" I remain under no contract to anybody. I learned about the licensing from the announcement from AnimeExpo, same as everyone else. While I have received a very small handful of e-mails from Sekai Project, and I have no doubt whatsoever that the license was obtained primarily due to the tools Doddler and Nagato created, as well as my own significant work on it, Sekai Project has yet to make any kind of substantive offer to work with us to translate/release the game(s). Or anything vaguely in the ballpark. We made an offer to them (which was flatly rejected for reasons that remain unclear to us even after expliclty asking), and they did make an 'offer' to give us a grossly inadequate sum of money to hand over everything we've done and walk away, after being told at the very beginning that doing so was completely out of the question. That was a toughie to consider.

>I learned about the licensing from the announcement from AnimeExpo, same as everyone else.

The Muv Luv Kickstarter put out an update, although there really wasn't much in the update. They put out an Alternative trailer but didn't give any indication about when Alternative might be ready for its Steam release, and said the Vita stuff is mostly being held off on until Alternative is released on PC.

They did say they'll be moving to monthly updates though. Either way it seems Alternative will probably end up at least a year behind its August 2016 estimate, and the Vita release of Alternative will only fall farther behind its November 2016 estimate.
>>
The remaining titles waiting on Denpasoft news are Maitetsu, Wagamama High Spec, Hoshizora no Memoria, Tenshin Ranman, and Baldr Sky. Aside from Baldr Sky, all of those are though the translation stage.

If we did get a Denpasoft update tonight, Wagamama High Spec seems to be the most likely since it is close enough to release that they played through some of the demo on Stream last week, and it seems very likely an R18 release is planned. Maitetsu should also get an update at some point once the negotiations are finished, regardless of the result of those negotiations, but odds are they are still ongoing. Hoshizora no Memoria seems likely to be getting an R18 release (at least based on Chuee's comments) while Tenshin Ranman is more up in the air (especially since the initial announcement was for the console port), but it is hard to guess when news about them might come out as Sekai hasn't discuss either much recently. Baldr Sky is probably out of luck unless the situation changed since AWA, but either way I'd be surprised to see any update about that at Anime Central.

With that one Chrono Clock stream Nutaku did with a Sekai guy, it seems they only picked up the R18 version for Chrono Clock after Nutaku's cash was on the table. While it seems like we should get R18 versions of at least a couple more titles, and they came back for Chrono Clock and Leyline, I'm guessing they just simply didn't initially pick up the R18 rights for their big titles picked up in late 2015/early 2016 initially, and thus they needed to go back for them once their priorities changed.

2nd announcement, Re;Lord by Escu:de
https://vndb.org/v14520
>>
Oh wow, they went back and got 18+ G-Senjou
>>
Last announcement was an "uncensored" Chrono Clock, so presumably no mosaics.

So in the end, they confirmed an R18 version of one of their 5 upcoming titles that doesn't have it confirmed, dropping that to 4, a decent gameplay title, and they went back to fix two old VNs.
>>
>>17049446
That's a shocker. Sekai might stop being in my "outright unbuyable" list if this keeps up.

I'm not budging until I get 18+ Baldr Sky and Maitetsu though.
>>
Curious if Sekai will have anything R18 at their panel tomorrow. Originally, it had looked like the Sekai panel would be first, and thus they could just confirm R18 stuff at the later Denpasoft panel, but if they grabbed say some 18+ VN with a Steam version I'm guessing they would want to announce it at their bigger panel for Sekai (even if a Denpa version were announced at the same time).

Additionally, if they were good announcing Re;Lord at acen, there is a decent chance they have some noticeable title for Denpa to announce at AX.
>>
>>17049487
Didn't they say that Purple Software didn't keep the original pre-mosaic artwork or something? Then got ridiculed when MG just went "FYI, Hapymaher is completely uncensored"?

So did Purple Software "found" their pre-mosaic artwork or did SP commission them to redraw the censored bits?

Seriously, even when they do something good, it's hilariously hampered by their previous lying.
>>
>>17049446
18+ G-Senjou probably won't do much, as it is too late to get much in the way of a patch for people who brought it on Steam more than a year ago. Although it could gain some traction on Nutaku.
>>
>>17049586
I hope the inevitable written summary elaborates more on that, but it is amusing to see it go from mosaics to mosaic free when MG got a mosaic free title from PurpleSoft last summer.

Although the big takeaway is that between revising Chrono Clock and making a big deal about Nekonin being mosaic free, they now consider going after mosaic free releases somewhat of a priority when they are able to.

With Hoshizora no Memoria getting an R18 version, that leaves just Baldr Sky, Maitetsu, and Tenshin Ranman without an R18 release announce. Of course though, Hoshizora no Memoria was probably the last of the "easy" R18 announcements, and R18 releases of the remaining 3 are far from a sure thing.

Taking a look through the Kickstarter, it's another example of one focused just on the physical goods as they confirm it will be released regardless. Although that obviously doesn't include the fandisc. Noticeably, there isn't any Nutaku deal this time either unlike the last 2 big Kickstarters (Leyline and Chrono Clock). It's in line with the Chrono Clock Kickstarter as far as digital releases go, $20 all ages and $30 for the R18 version. It has a surprising lack of whale tiers, especially since it has already been fantranslated and thus should have some built in fanbase that might go after them, both slots for the $1000 tier are already gone.
>>
>>17052009
I can't understand why they chose that one to localise, it looks ugly and I can't see it selling well at all.
>>
>>17052134
I think it is a rather poor choice of a title to begin with, but they probably got it very cheap and it is in line with the typical cheap Steam titles that Sekai normally goes after. I wonder if they'll have something noticeable for the brand to announce at AX.
>>
>>17052134
It was probably dirt cheap to license.

Sekai's choices of what BL and otome titles to translate has sucked so far. Witch Boy remains their only kickstarter flop. And all the license for the genres is cheap doujin garbage.
>>
I wonder how Sekai's translation of Memoria will compare to the fan TL, since they tweeted that they're not using the fan TL.
>>
>>17052009
Not a surprised, but Denpasoft confirmed that they'll be handling the distribution for the R18 version of that (and thus probably R18 Maiden Voyage titles in general).
>>
>>17052120
Still different prices? I'd like to meet a single person that actually thinks they buy the all-ages version to save money but that they really wanted the porn. During the Kickstarter itself, it makes sense to do $20/$30 instead of just a $25 combo as long as more than half the people go with the $30. But beyond the Kickstarter, it would be harder to justify a cheaper price on Steam and a more expensive price on Denpa/Nutaku if they were the same price during the Kickstarter, as the latter audience is willing to spend more than Steam buyers.

>>
I wonder if Sekai will include the upcoming Wagamama High Spec sequel with the inevitable Kickstarter. Thus far Grisaia included its sequels, Leyline included its sequels, and now while it is a stretch goal they picked up the Hoshimemo fandisc for its Kickstarter.
>>
>>17052503
I think that tier also includes all the digital rewards from the previous tiers. They started doing this after Clannad physical backers complained that physicals came later than Steam release.
>>
>>17052613
It's still overpriced as fuck.
>>
>>17052617
The physical copy is only $45 based on the tier structure. Pledging $1 and asking for it to be an add-on would be a better idea.
>>
>>17052353
This isn't even true. Check out bundle sales and people offer minimum most often. Which is about 10-30 dollars for 5 eroge. They do not offer 150 dollars for 5 eroge "Because they like to pay more".

The only hint of truth in that statement is that if a publisher says "I will only sell all-ages", people will say that if only they could get an 18+ version, they'd even pay extra for it. Sekai (and other companies) have often made a thing out of this being some kind of rule instead of a plea.

The biggest issue is however that using Steam costs them 30% more, which means selling it for 20 dollars on Steam is like selling all-ages on Denpasoft for 14 dollars. I.e. 18+ titles are 200% the profit of all-ages. Literally paying double.
>>
>>17052633
How about pledging $0 instead, SP shill?
>>
https://twitter.com/denpasoft_chris/status/866013985706917888

They seem to be suggesting that there will be something noteworthy for Denpasoft at AX.
>>
>>17052651
The lower prices on Steam are to encourage impulse buying on a very crowded platform, and to make sales through volume. It will probably be $30 on Steam again like Chrono Clock was (which was also $20 for just the all ages version during the Kickstarter). Now they probably don't need to, but they charge more on Denpa/Nutaku simply because they can and people are willing to buy it.

>The biggest issue is however that using Steam costs them 30% more, which means selling it for 20 dollars on Steam is like selling all-ages on Denpasoft for 14 dollars.

Steam takes a 30% cut, Nutaku probably takes a 40% cut unless Sekai made a better than standard deal with Nutaku. Denpasoft doesn't have those fees, but they are an American based company selling "at risk" content (porn downloads), so their processing fees are probably fairly substantial. In that regards, they should do best from the Kickstarter, where they only are paying 10%.

Hoshizora no Memoria is up to $20k on the Kickstarter. It will trivially reach the initial $45k goal, although it may take a while before it hits $75k for the stretch goal. The best analogue is probably Chrono Clock, which reached $87k, though that had a higher price point on the physical tiers and a bit more from whale tiers.
>>
>>17052699
The way to get impulse purchases on steam is the steam sale. There is no reason to actually lie in "sale price" all the time. You'd make more money charging "full price" until sales.

Besides impulse purchases are 10 or lower. At 20-30 dollars nobody will ever impulse buy a VN. So again, different pricing makes no sense. (Apart from apparently disliking 18+ customers so you give them a worse deal)
>>
>>17053022
Impulse buying isn't necessarily limited to Steam sales, a big aim is getting people to buy it on impulse from the new releases list upon release. In fact, I would argue that for Steam sales a higher base price with deeper sales is better (such as you could get if Chrono Clock were $40 everywhere). 50% off of $40 looks nicer than 33% off of $30 even if they are the same price.

At the very least though, with it being their common pricing to have about a $10 gap between prices, Sekai seems to have decided that it is an optimal way to do dual releases. Whether it actually is the best approach to do the best on Steam while making the R18 revenue be worth it is another question, but Sekai is hardly alone with Degica, Jast, MG, and Frontwing all having titles with a cheaper Steam version or paid patches for a Steam version.
>>
>>17053191
The oddest part is really paid patches. The argument for 10 dollar cheaper Steam game is already "Nobody on steam would pay more". Yet how would you sell patches if nobody on Steam ever would pay more than all-ages price?

Do you somehow convince them that they bought 2 games? So it was two cheap games.

I honestly don't mind the 18+ prices. I just can't understand the excuse that Steam only consist of some weird aliens never found anywhere else on the planet.
>>
>>17051624
>They are so desperate for coverage that even no-traffic blogs now pass as news sites?

That's always been the case
>>
>>17053347
The idea is that there is a broad audience on Steam, and you are only selling the 18+ patch to a subset of that audience. The low prices on Steam are an appeal to try and get the sort of individuals who fed the Steam craze to buy a title on impulse or because they saw it on some video stream, and they generally wouldn't be aware of an 18+ patch even if you were giving it away for free. On the other hand, R18 patches are sold to the crowd at least knowledgeable enough to know to look to see if there is a patch when they see a VN with anime art.

If you have both an R18 and all ages release on the same platform with the same visibility, in every case the overwhelming majority of people have opted to pay extra for the R18 version, and the HoshiMemo Kickstarter won't be an exception. But almost every title release as an all ages title on Steam and an R18 title off of Steam the Steam version sold more (Da Capo 3 being a rare exception, but had that sold like Princess Evangile on Steam it wouldn't have been an exception).
>>
>>17051624
More press is better, and it isn't like they lose much in a situation like this. They'll get some extra coverage by sending their press releases as broadly as they can. That said it would be quite a bit different had this happen with their AX panel instead.
>>
>>17051934
Good thing I already have the original godly OST at home. I won't support the kickstarter but as long as they don't censor (remove any type of content) I'll most likely buy the game when it's out. I have preference for no mosaics, specially with that godly art.

I don't think Clock Up has any other noteworthy edgy titles, so they might start doing their light hearted titles again. Maggot Baits was asked for a lot, which is one reason why they prioritized it
>>
>>17054117

Just presenters if I recall. Last year they wasted like a half hour for QA which was totally pointless(because they didn't know anything), so that's why they're going through MG's entire catalog this year I imagine(to avoid that)
>>
What a waste of time.

Marina and Kyonyuu Fantasy Gaiden confirmed

who's the red headed semen demon?
>>
>>17054186
Wasn't she a major character in the first game? I haven't played it, so I can't remember her name.

That's not a semen demon
>>
They renamed Gaiden into Sideboob Story.

Doddler isn't working on Bokuten.

>>17054186
>>17054203
Last year she was hotter. I don't really like her hair as it is now
>>
Hey Haro, were either announcement one of the secret projects?
>>
>>17054220
He is going to work on Bokuten, he just hasn't started it yet, because he's prioritizing other projects.
>>
>>17054222
I couldn't hear it clearly on the stream, but Gaiden seems to be Secret Project #4. They said it was 7X% in editing, if I'm not wrong.
>>
>>17054222

Yes, they were both on the secret project list which I almost forgot to update so thanks for the reminder.
>>
>>17054220
>Doddler isn't working on Bokuten.

Yes he is.
>>
>"The rest of the secret titles will probably be announced at AX"

That's probably the most interesting thing out of that panel and it was at the very end. I suppose Otakon will have the stuff that isn't being tracked/got picked up more recently.
>>
How dead would VN translations be without Doddlers?

It's a good thing doddler didn't get sent to jail over the onahole incident
>>
>>17054273
Is he still under parole?
>>
>>17054216

I'm more surprised with what they came with for https://vndb.org/v12949

"Great Fuck College Student" doesn't really sound like part of the usual title they'd come up with, so I can only assume they were trying to make it sound like a translated JAV title for some reason? It seems like it has to have been deliberate choice to turn 絶倫大学生 into that.
>>
>>17054244
Fucking doddles, how can one man hold up so many releases.
>>
MG updated their secret project status. Marina was #5 and Gaiden was #7.

>>
>>17054243
Feels a bit weird that a 100% translated and 77% edited title won't be announced for about 6 weeks at least. MG has a lot on the programming and beta pipeline though, so I doubt they could release that title earlier even if they wanted to.

>>17054260
Yeah, that's interesting. There will likely to be 5 announcements at AX like last year assuming the Itaru game isn't on the secret project list. If the Otakon titles are newer, then that would mean that the rest of the hints refer to AX titles, but that's a huge assumption. There could always be more hidden secret projects that originated from before the beginning of the year.

As far as I can remember, here are the hints from the original post.

Rocket and rocket scientist: Both probably refer to https://vndb.org/v15077

DomiNANt: Probably a reference to Yaegashi Nan, the artist of Evenicle.

More entries from a popular series: Could have just been referring to Kyonyuu Fantasy Gaiden, but the wording is a bit weird for just one title. Could have been a simple grammar mistake on the part of the writer though.

Something with a bit of a historical bent: Unfulfilled hint that could refer to a lot of things.

Something old: Vague hint that doesn't fit any of the current announcements.

Something young: Possibly Sweet Young Bride, but a later hint fits that a bit better.

Something borrowed: Almost certainly Marina's Cuckholding Report

Something BLue: IIRC, there are rumors that MG is working on another BL title even though they already announced one this year.

The marriage idiom hint: Possibly just a reference to Sweet Young Bride despite hyping for Magical Marriage Lunatics.
>>
>>17054379

Yeah we do have a bit of a programming bottleneck at the moment, but hopefully we'll be able to clear it soon. We have a lot of stuff in beta right now.
>>
>>17054379
It could be Rance Quest.
>>
>>17054379

It's pretty obvious there's going to be more rance announced this year.

I still kinda think
>Something old
is the eve burst error remake
>>
>>17054379
>romance remains the top choice followed by science fiction and fantasy—good thing we have quite a few games in those categories to announce this year!

>more entries in popular series
Refers to more than one sequel, so not only Gaiden.

>something new
I'm not sure where you got young from.

2 secret projects down and the gameplay title people were hyped about turned out to be the Hentai Industries title.

Time to countdown to AX.
>>
>>17054432
>>17054422
Rance Quest is probably the project 1.
>>
>>17053619
But if the audience is broad, then it is still better to price it the same from the start and then have steam sales later to cater to the rest. It only makes sense to have this price difference if there is no broad audience and the only customers are the cheap ones.

Unless of course the only thing you care about is sales the first week.
>>
>>17054900
I personally still think Sengoku will be announced first. At the same time Quest would be neat though.

Assuming 2 Alicesoft announcements, they seem most likely to be Evenicle and Sengoku Rance. The hint for Evenicle could be for Drapeko, but the demand for Evenicle is far higher. It would be fantastic if they got more than 2.

I found myself really liking Hatsukoi 1/1 - story was likable enough, girls were adorable and just perverted enough to really get me going, and the protagonist didn't seem completely unlikable.
