Weird mix of generic and uncommon taste, but most of these songs are pretty good. These are my top fives, from most to least liked:
Boss: Lost Emotion, Little Princess, Infinite Being, Strawberry Crisis, Wonderful Heaven
Stage: Alice Maestra, The Hall of Dreams' Great Mausoleum, Alice in Wonderland, Shining Needle Castle, Night Sakura of Dead Spirits

>>16928206
I don't consider myself too big a fan of this song, but it holds a special place in my heart for being the first Touhou song I heard that I found lived up to the hyped soundtracks. The first two stages of EoSD didn't give much of a good first impression. Same with Cirno herself, she was one of the first characters I grew to like even though I find many other characters more entertaining now.
>>
>>16928206
For me Beloved Tomboyish Girl from UNL is my favourite version of Cirno's theme
>>
Im really liking Voyage 1970 nowadays.
>>
To further break it down, some songs aren't amazing, but have brilliant little melodies that last maybe all of five seconds that I absolutely adore. The opening of Necrofantasia is a great example of what I'm talking about. There's also some nice parallels present which tie into characters, such as the opening themes of Kaguya and Moukou, as well as Aki and Hina in MoF. Yukari and Ran don't really count in my opinion as they're less of a parallel and more cut from the same cloth.
>>
>>16928525
Best last spell theme.

As for my favourite boss theme, there's no contest: Little Princess.
>>
I wonder if the Hidden Flower in Four Seasons's menu screen will beat Mysterious Purification Rod.
>>

>Hidden flower
Hidden Star, my bad. I was thinking about how AoCF's music will sound as well.

>but have brilliant little melodies that last maybe all of five seconds that I absolutely adore

Yeah that's exactly what happens with MoF Stage 3 for me for example, the opening of the theme with the letters popping up on the screen as the background changes, or SA Stage 2 theme with parsee's bullets that start following you around at the rhythm of the music.

>>16929737
Another great last spell theme is Border of Life, it creates a very energetic finish, especially if you have only 1 or 2 lifes left and you are about to get your first 1cc.
>>
>from Touhou games
What is this discrimination?
>>
>>16930388
We can talk about remixes or fanmade work too I guess, as long as it's still related to Touhou.
>>
IN, SA, EoSD soundtracks are mostly my favorites.
>>
My top 5 (In no particular order)

1. Native faith

2. Gensokyo Millennium

3. Fate of sixty years

4. Memory of forgathering dream

5. Shanghai teahouse ~ Chinese tea
>>
Boss theme: Necrofantasia

Stage theme: The capital city of flowers in the sky

>Stage theme: The capital city of flowers in the sky

Probably have to agree. It's ZUNs most powerful work, in the sense that it starts as only a murmur, and slowly builds upon into something powerful in an elegant way.

I also think the stage was one of his best designs, at least aesthetically.

DDC's Lonely Werewolf put the otherwise plain dogger girl straight into my heart.

EoSD soundtrack always brings a good feeling of nostalgia, especially the menu theme song
>>
>>16927961
In no particular order

Boss theme:
>Venerable Ancient Battlefield - Suwa Foughten Field
Majestic is probably the one word I'd use to describe it, it gives off a powerful sense of majesty which works perfectly.
>Satori Maiden ~ 3rd Eye
Dissonant, slightly weird and twisted and extremely memorable like a trauma, it's also really catchy.
>Emotional Skyscraper ~ Cosmic Mind
An extremely emotional theme and it's just a really flowery theme that gives off a clear enlightened feel.
>Bhava-agra As Seen Through a Child's Mind
It has certain beautiful childish heavenly feel to it that is hard to describe.
>The Lost Emotion
Feels kind of like one of ZUN's more complicated boss theme whilst at the time feeling slightly empty? Seems appropriate for a character who has difficult sorting out her own emotions.

Stage theme:
>IN Stage 1 - Illusionary Night ~ Ghostly Eyes
Easily one of the most haunting songs in the entire series with a great sense of paranoia like you're barreling into the unknown. I'd go as far to say it's straight up the best Stage 1 theme in the whole franchise.
>DS Stage 4 - Bell of Avici ~ Infinite Nightmare
One of the least appreciated themes in the series going by how little mention it gets, it has a really rustic nostalgic feeling going for it.
>SA EX-Stage - Last Remote
Out of all the games I think this one captures the feel of a final challenge better than the others only by a bit mind you.
>UFO Stage 5 - Provincial Makai City Esoteria
I always view this as one of ZUN's more complicated themes, I always love how it constantly changes it's timing it gives it a constantly lively fresh sound.
>TD Stage 1 - Night Sakura of the Dead Spirits
Another super underrated stage theme, it's haunting but also the polar opposite of IN's Stage 1 being a peaceful and beautiful type of ghostly.
>>
Look out guys I'm posting fighter stuff:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JibWhc5kFrM
Disco fish has better boss fight music than the actual boss.
>>
In Sanae's theme, I really love the 4 high-pitch notes right before the main melody kicks in (at around 0:46)
>>
I've been thinking about which soundtracks were my favorites and why I liked them, so I ended up autistically writing up my thoughts on them.

TD: One of my favorite game soundtracks in general. It adds so much to the dreamlike atmosphere this game has and manages to be simultaneously relaxing and rhythmic. I love every single song in this one.

MS: An interesting mix of energetic and emotional tunes, all of which are memorable and fantastic. I feel like ZUN put his soul into this game since he thought this would be his last.

UFO: This game has such a bubbly and upbeat soundtrack that reminds me a lot of Kirby. Love all of these songs as well.

MoF: The music and the warm color pallette capture the feeling of autumn perfectly. A lot of fan favorites in this one and I can see why.

LLS: Like TD, there's a dreamlike atmosphere going on, but more so a surreal one than a relaxing one. The hardware limitations give it this personality, with limited pallettes and FM synthesis making it feel otherworldly. It also hosts some of my personal favorites like Alice Maestra and Dream Land.

PoDD: The heavier emphasis on dialogue and varied compositions give the cast a lot more character than the rest of the PC98 and early Windows games. There's a lot of variety in the soundtrack to reflect this.

LoLK: ZUN really captured the space shooter feel in this one. The songs are catchy and fast-paced but use more subdued and synthetic instruments. It has an experimental style similar to TD which fits nicely.

IN: I used to not like this one too much, but it grew on me as time went on. ZUN said he wanted to make songs fast paced to fit with the whole race against time theme, and the complex melodies reflect this.

PCB: All of the songs are at least pretty good, but only a handful get stuck in my head. The ones that do kick ass, like Border of Life, Doll Maker of Bucuresti, and of course Necrofantasia.

HRtP: I think the primitive FM instruments hurt the original soundtrack and a lot of the MS arranges fail to capture the mood of the originals. That said, I love quite a few of these like Blade of Banishment, Strange Eastern Discourse, and Eternal Shrine Maiden.

DDC: The songs from the last two stages of the game are, in my opinion, ZUN's masterpieces. The rest of the soundtrack is alright, but the songs from stage 1 are some of the few Touhou songs I outright dislike.

SA: Last Remote is simultaneously beautiful and intense, Nuclear Fusion and Satori Maiden are great boss themes, and Lullaby of Deserted Hell is one of the more relaxing Touhou songs. The other songs are just okay, but the more I listen to them the better I find them to be.

SoEW: I really like the stage themes for the same reasons as LLS and TD. Shame I can't say the same about the boss themes, except maybe Love Colored Magic.

EoSD: Chinese Tea is a personal favorite of mine for being the first Touhou song I fell in love with. The Maid and the Pocketwatch of Blood and Septette for the Dead Princess are also fantastic. I just don't really find any of the other songs that special. Like DDC, I don't care for the songs from stage 1.

PoFV: I just don't feel this one. I guess the new characters have pretty good themes (except Medicine), but I think the series has had much better. Sorry.

Fall of Fall is my favorite, it gives me a warm feeling of nostalgia. The first time I heard it I was reminded of Wood Man's theme from Mega Man 2.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X7nR7W0wxlM
>>
Favorites have gotta be, in no particular order:

Satori Maiden ~ 3rd Eye
Border of Life
Reach for the Moon, Immortal Smoke
Primordial Beat ~ Pristine Beat
Solar Sect of Mystic Wisdom ~ Nuclear Fusion
The Exaggerated Castle Keep
Last Remote
The Sea Where the Home Planet is Reflected
Dwarf Castle of Shining Needle ~ Little Princess
>>
The PoDD ost is so underrated (except for Strawberry Crisis) it hurts. It has the best PC-98 music AND is much, much better than PoFV's ost. Even the unused music is amazing.
>>
>>16950824
I like how that theme begins and around 1:15 it has like a grim and dark feel to it

Anyone else really, really like "Road of the Apotropaic God - Dark Road" from Mountain of Faith?
>That beginning
>>
I'm actually really loving a lot of the OST from the newer games funnily enough.
Little Princess and Pure Furies are the best stage 6 boss themes in the series, the former tells a beautiful story and speaks volumes for a character only bigger than a foot while the latter feels perfect for a rising, climatic battle with a powerful entity.
>Tfw am fucking in love with LoLK
I'm looking forward to Touhou 16 but I'm also sort of worried that it'll be too laid back, I loved the change of tone for tracks for Touhou 14 and 15.

My top 5 is:

1. Gensokyo Millenium - History of the Moon
2. Reincarnation and Satori Maiden - 3rd Eye
3. Road of the Apotropaic God and Dark Side of Fate
4. Mystic Oriental Dream - Ancient Temple and Ultimate Truth
5. Primordial Beat - Pristine Beat and Flight of the Bamboo Cutter - Lunatic Princess

Gensokyo Millenium is so far above the rest of these I feel as if it should take places 2, 3 and 4 for itself just to show how much I prefer it over anything else through the entire series.

pic related, it's me when I saw all this heresy except for >>16928525 and >>16930977 you two have good taste, don't come to the bamboo forest tonight

Boss: Pristine Beat, Fate of Sixty Years, Bhava-agra As Seen Through a Child's Mind, Spring Lane, September Pumpkin
Stage: Loose Rain, Thunderclouds of Magical Power, Shining Needle Castle Sinking in the Air, Cheat Against Impossible Danmaku, Paradise ~ Deep Mountain

I generally like PCB, PoFV and DDC soundtracks the most(LLS out of the old games). Older games like IN have great Zun classic tracks like Voyage 1969/1970, but I rarely listen to these outside of their respective games.
>>
IN's music is so much above the rest of Touhou it kind of scares me
>>
>>16969132
IN full of piano shit and that's amazing.
>>

I always love Theme of Eastern Story and its various arrangements, but UFO's "A Shadow in the Blue Sky" version really takes the cake for me.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oDclLE_9z8M
It feels like the beginning of a wondrous adventure, and At the End of Spring really compliments that feeling.
>>
>>16967493
Listening it while watching your gif was funny

>>16967500
I'm not a big fan of the newer games music but there are some themes like Ten Desires Stage 4 that I actually liked a lot
>>
Not in particular order:

Bosses
Love-colored master spark, Phantom Ensemble, Doll's Judgement, Necrofantasia, Corpse Voyage ~ Be of good cheer!

Stages:
EoSD 3, PCB 5 & 6, IN 2, MoF 1.

>>16969132
For me it's PCB. Even though more likely I just love that game and it's atmosphere.
>>
1. Bloom Nobly Cherry Blossoms of Sumizome ~ Border of Life
2. Lullaby of Deserted Hell
3. The Last Judgement
4. Nemureru Kyoufu ~ Sleeping Terror
5. Green-Eyed Jealousy
6. Locked Girl ~ The Girl's Secret Room
7. Shoutoku Legend ~ True Administrator
>>
You all probably know medley 5.5, but I recently found that the guy (taro) updated it with some more recent themes on his own youtube channel after all these years. I only noticed after he commented on one of my own piano videos.

>>
Definitely Alice in Wonderland from Mystic Square
for a stage theme.

Plastic Mind as a Boss theme.
