Why do you guys obsess over no other company as much as Type-Moon? Not over Key, not over Nitroplus, not even over Elf as much. Not Front Wing or Liar Soft or whatever. The only thing I've seen close is back when Illusion games were popular around here and maybe 07th Expansion, Littlewitch, or Aquaplus related games. What the fuck is so great about Type-Moon and the exactly 2(two) games anyone even cares about from them?

>>

There is lot to that. It was the 1st ''real deal'' thing translated. Back then, no one expected TM turning into horrible normalfag-milking enterprise. Belive or not the credit of trust was huge. TM discussion was a thing and a contributor to board in general, and so the following persisted for quite some time.
Very few people cares about it nowdays outside of /a/ that "discovered'' TM trough anime and /v/ because FGO. There is small TM thread from time to time, but that just nostalgia acting up.
Oh, there was Melty Blood gameplay threads as well.
>>
>>16897229
I don't think there is a single company out there that consistently makes good VNs.

It's protected /jp/ heritage. Or, what >>16897272 said.
>>
>>16897229
Because Mirror Moon translation
Because beautiful piano ost
Because shark end
Because that chair
Because raep the maids
Because isn't it sad, Sacchin

While Type-Moon certainly isn't what it used to be, it did leave its mark. Also, we get more cynical as we get older.
>>
>>16897272
>Very few people cares about it nowdays outside of /a/ that "discovered'' TM trough anime
Did people discover it through the games? Back when 4chan was starting people were talking about the Tsukihime anime and/or their hate for it. Were they just people who played it already or when was the game actually translated?

>>16897277
It's more like 4chan heritage. When I said "You guys", I meant /jp/, old /a/, and old /b/ have not shut up about Tsukihime in particular for the last 14 damn years. I guess Melty Blood is a factor though.

>I don't think there is a single company out there that consistently makes good VNs.
Yeah but even if they did, you wouldn't know because you just talk about FSN and Tsukihime all the time. I guess Fate/Zero is "talked about" now since the anime.

Take Key though, it has lots of liked games and seems more overall an influential company, but I don't see people talk about them anywhere near as much even when making fun of the older Kanon anime was still popular. Type-Moon is like the only thing I will see multiple threads of even in this general-laced future.
>>
>>16897352
>Tsukihime anime
There is no Tsukihime anime.

TM have huge universe with tons of characters, powerlevels, plot twists and so on. Key doesn't. It's not like Key games are bad, they simply can't provide enough discussion fuel. And it's not like people never made fun of TM either. What about Key you would you like to discuss? Just create a thread then.
It felt like you just want to complain that things you like aren't talked much as the things you don't.

Tsukhime is truly a story about optimism, valuing yourself, appreciating your life, and moving boldly into the future. Death might not be as close to our doors as it is to Shiki’s… but, then again, you never know. That is why the lessons in this story are so applicable. You are alive now, but maybe not tomorrow. So look on your past fondly, smile at yourself in the mirror now and again, and hope lovingly for the future.

In the epilogue, Shiki fatefully meets Aoko again and they muse a little bit about old times past. Shiki notes how the past several days/weeks (the span of X route) have been crazy. And some point Aoko tells him that those days will eventually end. Shiki agrees and asks something to the effect of when. The Magus just kind of remains silent and freaking Shiki just tells her that the days were fun, though.

And this is what, for me, Tsukihime was about. Yes, there were vampires and serial killers. But it was really about finding joys in today – even when it doesn’t seem like there are any… and about having faith in a tomorrow. Basically, Tohno Shiki could die ten years from that conversation with Aoko, or he might not even wake up the next day. Although we don’t “live close to death”, the same basic concept applies. There are no promises in life. So you can go through life miserable only to be potentially snuffed out tomorrow, or you can find your own happiness and hope it extends into your future.

I don't particularly like VNs and I don't particularly dislike TM, but I know there are lots of VNs that are liked but they don't seem to have nearly the following or obsession even though they seem to have the popularity.

>TM have huge universe with tons of characters, powerlevels, plot twists and so on. Key doesn't. It's not like Key games are bad, they simply can't provide enough discussion fuel.
Yet when I think of old doujin games, there are lots featuring Key characters but outside of Melty I can only think of a few featuring TM characters. It seems like Key ones integrated themselves into Japanese otaku culture but nothing except TM has gained that status in the west, even though Nitro+ games are really popular. Maybe it's just because of memes.

Basically I just think it's odd. Especially because it's almost always specifically Tsukihime related unless it's FSN. Even this thread that starts with a KnK reference but doesn't actually care about it.
>>
>>16898931
That's an interesting point about Key's footprint in otaku culture vs Type Moon's. I feel like Key's time really came and went several years ago, while Type Moon has somehow maintained a pretty consistent level of popularity over a decade-plus.
>>
I love Sion! so of course I have to also be into the rest of TM in general. So glad they gave her some more spotlight, even if it was just to further build hype and tie in F/GO.
>>
>>16897229
I think the Type-MOON universe is like Touhou in that it lends itself easily to derivative works. Fate/Stay Night is the big offender, but Tsukihime also has Melty Blood.

It also helps that a Type-Moon VN is more likely to be a person's first VN than any of those other companies, and even if they are pandering with Fate, they haven't fallen off the wayside like how Key and Nitroplus have. Even if that's only because of so many Fate spinoffs that manage to be popular.

Aoko and Touko are completely different characters in Tsukihime than in KnK. Aoko doesn't even have the 5th yet in KnK's universe and the whole Human Order bullshit. The only thing that remains constant is that they both hate each other and MEoDP works roughly the same.

But people grew up with her granny clothes. It's really difficult to switch to a different permanent look on a character that you've been stuck with for the longest time.

Imagine people who read Higurashi with the hamhands, and say after 5-6 years they are replaced with better aesthetically looking ps2 sprites and are told "this is what they look like"
What happens? There's a divide between the people who got used to the original sprites and those who read it with the new sprites

Pretty sure I missed the golden age, but despite everything Nasuverse still somehow seems to offer the best discussion there is, which isn't that much anymore, but it stands for something.

I think what eventually ruined the threads were people first conuming different adaptations and then having spoiled the visual novels with different expectations or even worse, avoided the vidual novels altogether. I think what might've helped would've been a proper and professional translation of Type-moon material.

I'm pretty sure that mechanics are canon between universes unless otherwise specified, friendo.

Partly because as >>16899261 said, the whole "everything is canon" way the universe works and the nature of the Fate universe lends itself to all sorts of spinoffs and an endless supply of material. The other reason is that Fate is an entry level VN and it holds a special place in a lot of peoples hearts because it has so many memorable characters and it has a rather interesting story and concept. That's all Fate though, as for Tsukihime I can't really think of anything particularly that stood out to me there that would make it as big of a deal as Fate, sure the writing is a bit better because it's less shounen-y but the characters aren't any better or worse and it really lacks the whole "wild ride" feeling that Fate gave me when I read it. Going from Saber is King Arthur to Shirou is the Red Man who can pirate swords with magic and finding out why a guy who seemingly only used swords is of the 'Archer' class, to everything about Sakura and angry manjew and Kotomine. There wasn't a single route that felt 'empty' storywise and it had me on the edge of my seat even during the SoL moments. Sure it's easy once you've got a lot of VNs under your belt to say "bah it's entry level and it has all these plot holes yadda yadda" but when you're reading it for the first time it's something special and it sticks with you more than most other VNs

Zero brought the secondaries and Urobuchi dick suckers, while Extra brought even more waifufags and unnecessary pandering.
