Say you got the meaning correct, but you messed up the pronunciation somewhat.

Does anyone else not really understand the grammar explanations and terms and just kind of "feels" what's right? Like I can understand something in a sentence but if someone asked me "why" I couldn't say.

Seems like you are probably rushing and not giving yourself time to remember. You don't have to get everything instantly, anki only needs to make you capable of recognising the word and contextual cues will (and should be allowed to) do the rest.

I'm about halfway through my 2nd LN and there were probably over 100 words I would've added to anki if I was near my computer at the time and not reading on the subway.

Should I bother going back and looking them up? Is it worth studying them (and checking if my original guesses based on kanji and context were correct) or is my time better spent encountering more unknown words (again without looking them up)?

When I see weird furigana like this, am I supposed to read both the furigana and the kanji, or are the kanji just there to give a sort of ad-hoc footnote for explaining terms that a jap might not be familiar with?
Is it worth trying to subvocalise the kanji part, or perhaps even mine it(if it's not a made up word)?

Is there an anki deck to let me practice kanji production?

ie. I can say じてんしゃ, and if you showed me 自転車, I would easily recognize and read it. I could also write it down once I saw it. But if you told me to write it down without showing it to me, I draw a blank.

Sure you could.

English definitions on the front along with Sentence-Clozed field. At least for the Core6k deck.
That would provide you with both the definition and the context to narrow it down for any duplicates.

Im currently writing a story, and there are some japanese terms I would like to use.

1) 了承
The romaji for this is ryōshō, right? Could I read this as ryoushou or just ryosho? Also, does this really mean "acknowledgment" ?

2) The kanji 状 (jō) can be read as jou or just jo? Also, I can use it for shape or form, right?

3) What does 逆状 mean? I know it reads as Gyaku-jō, so can I use ir as inversed/reversed form or shape?

I guess ideally you should represent them somehow, for example with "ō" or "ou", but since everyone writes 東京 as "Tokyo" maybe the horse has bolted on that one.

Depends on the individual. I think most people paying for a degree in Japanese aren't exactly the brightest though.
I've browsed around job offers for the sector I'm getting my degree in that include Japanese and they always require my country's language, fluent English, fluent Japanese and a relevant degree in the economic sector. Some even wanted additional qualifications like certain certificates and 5+ years of experience but that is really pushing it. There were no or close to no job offers that simply required Japanese other than private tutoring positions or stuff like call-centers. I imagine you must be really lucky to get a proper job with only a language degree so people who do get one probably aren't the type to think things through.

Also please note that the Real Time Import feature will not work in a sandbox, without modification to the code. RTK is for writing the kaniji and helps with recognition.

Do it if you feel writing helps solidify what you see in your memory, otherwise it can probably be skipped.

well in the end, it's you who decide what is good enough. But the kana is so intrinsic to learning Japanese that isolated kana study is only needed for the first few days. If you consistently study, you won't really get the chance to forget it. Maybe except for katakana, that can take a little more effort, because it's not used as often. At what point should you switch to J-J definitions for vocab (and possibly grammar)? I understand it's important to understand the nuance of each meaning and its use that isn't conveyed through J-E, but at what point does using J-E actually hinder you? Most definitions are simple like this. In the worst case you still have Rikai for unknown words within the definitions, but the grammar itself is dead basic. Reading J-J definitions is probably a lot easier than whatever content you've been reading.

I've got a question about desu/masu. Reading through TK and it says verbs must be at the end of a sentence and masu is used for ru/u verbs.
So is desu to be used when theres an exception verb (not ru/u) at the end of the sentence? So what do you attach です to then, the exception verb?
Also whats a good thing to practice reading on when i've only done the basic grammar?

ます is for things that act like infinitives. In 死にます, 死に is an infinitive. ます can only attach to infinitives.
です is for things that act like nouns and entire statements.
Both of them have restrictions on where they can be used.

I had actually gotten Core 6k earlier but I did not have the time to delve into it, resulting in the low number of Learn cards in the first 5 weeks. After that I set my new cards per day to 100. There were some days that I couldn't do new cards for whatever reason due to lack of time from obligations and opted to review only instead. That big gap between the last two Learn card stacks represents the month of December where I was incredibly lazy and put off the final couple hundred words till January.

In Core 6 - 10k I set my daily cards to 50 and showed better consistency and discipline. In the final weeks I set my daily new cards to 100. While hammering out Core, I supplemented my studies by reading light manga and a couple of VN's.

Hello, lads.

It's embarrassing to admit this, but I need some guidance on how to proceed with my studies.

I was a WK (yeah, I know, it's not great) for a while but recently I've just given up on it, for several reasons. I don't want to pay eight dollars for the privilege of being bombarded with hundreds of reviews a day, and learning kanji haphazardly has done little to help me understand any Japanese et all. Being at level 20, I can read most kanji and vocabulary to an extent in sentences, but if you asked me if I understood it, I would hang my head in shame.

I've started doing a Japanese course on grammar earlier this year but I feel like it's way too slow, the materials are bad and I'm not satisfied with it. The solution given would be to read Tae Kim, but I've read a few topic and had to stop myself to ask "Am I going to retain any of this if all I'm doing is just reading through it?", so I'm not keen on that idea quite yet.

I "know" around some 500 kanji, some 2000 assorted vocab terms, almost no grammar. I'm not sure I want to start a Core deck from total scratch. Should I just suck it up and trust that reading Tae Kim through will facilitate my understanding of the language? Should I pick a Core deck up? I've got an N5 if that's any measurement of my level in Japanese.

Apologies for the generic questions, but I'm at a real standstill. I don't want to start from scratch and I don't want to drop everything I've managed to retain so far either.

Of course there's a way to say it, you just won't be able to use it properly until you see it in practice often enough, and if you don't already know it, then you'll be confused as to why it's constructed the way it is.

Here's a hint, though: たい can apply to entire phrases, not the verb itself.

The て form is two things. One, a conjunction, which separates statements like this. Two, an infinitive, which makes the verbs part of the same statement.

English is actually very weird in having infinitival phrases instead of just infinitive verbs. That's what allows english to say "I want to X and Y". Other languages generally don't allow the branch between X and Y to happen at that particular point in semantics, and you have to use larger structures similar to ~tari ~tari shitai.

The important part is more the reading native content than the Tae Kim.

When I went through Japanese: The Manga Way I made Anki cards out of the example sentences. You don't have to do anything like that of course, but for me it meant I rarely had to consult back to the guide as I was reading.

Yeah, if possible, I would love to just go through content in the native language and learn said language that way. I've gotten a real distaste for Anki or any sort of SRS system after WK, it's effective for helping you remember things but it feels like such a massive chore. I have very similar feelings about sitting down and grinding grammar exercises. That's how I learned English in the first place.

Mining decks seem to be *the* thing you're supposed to do, but it's not nearly as intuitive as doing it in Chrome as it in Firefox.
