So ever since I read YU-NO I have had an insatiable craving for games with delicious PC-98 visuals. Only problem is it seems every time we get a translation of a PC-98 game it's a re-release version where they fuck the visuals up by redrawing them. Are there any other games with English translations that preserved wonderful low color dither or is this the one?
>>
Bump because I'm interested as well, also what PC-98 games would you recommend OP? Besides touhou of course.
>>
the visuals are the only good thing about yu-no
try policenauts, aka lethal weapon in space

I know this is an edit but do you guys know where the original is from?

Just learn Japanese. It's not that hard.
>>
This site is what you're looking for I think

http://tss.asenheim.org/en/

Browser versions of a ton of PC-98 games.

Play EVE:Burst error, the same guy did the soundtrack as YU-NO, Ryu Umemoto. It's a perverted PI working a pretty serious case. I had a good time with it, but it can get frustrating trying to examine every bush to progress the story. Honestly I don't think there are many translated PC-98 games that have YU-NO's level of graphics
>>
>>16820754
But it is time consuming.
>>
Has anyone uploaded all the CG or OST from the remake yet?
>>
>>16820898
So is playing VNs.
>>
>>16821030
That's time consuming on something enjoyable. Time flies when you're having fun. I don't consider learning fun even if it's not hard.
>>
>>16821063
Enjoy mediocrity
>>
I get sad that the PC98 has a lot of interesting, beautiful games and i'll never get to play them if i don't learn japanese since there's not enough of a force to translate them.
>>
I would love to learn how to translate PC-98 games in the first place but I have no idea how to hack them.
>>
>>16821122
If you can read Japanese I'm sure you can find someone to dump the script for you.

yeah, /vr/ kinda here, there are several pc98 games that we got most the text fully dumped, just no one really cares to translate old porn games.
>>
http://pc98.cat/
Not all of the games this person's translated have "that look" but you might find something you like
>>
>>16821139
I'm not that good but there's also the issue of putting it back in the game.

Kind of wished I studied CS.
>>
>>16821307
Same answer. Show up with a completed script and someone will inject it for you. The translation work is by far the lion's share of the kind of project you're talking about.
>>
>>16821375
You know who I should be talking to?
>>
>>16821307
Also the issue of being able to read Japanese, which yoiu claim, not being the same as being able to produce nice English.
>>
>>16820754
Don't listen to this guy, It takes more than a year and it's hard, and once you get far the sunk-cost fallacy rears it's ugly head and you can't quit
>>
>>16821183
I'd do it, just dump me pastebins with the text files
>>
>>16831180
measuring how long things take to accomplish in months or years is a normie meme

learning japanese is enjoyable if you do it right
>>
>>16831180
humblebrag but it took me almost exactly 5 years to go from total ignorance (katakana lol wut) to comfortable reading fluency (何でもガシガシと貪り読む). I only took 1 year of japanese classes at university, so a japanese major could probably do it faster than me.

I was only really "studying" for the first 2-3 years. After that I was just enjoying stuff in Japanese, working my way up to harder material.

no regrets.
>>
>>16831280
It's defintely fun but at times can become very stressful, would have taken a break if I could

>>16831302
so 1-2 years left

Now lets get back on topic, is YU-NO worth playing?
>>
>>16831526
it's shit
the epilogue makes everything else in the game meaningless and the ending is fucking terrible
not to mention the game is practically impossible without a guide
you do fuck your 3 year old daughter in the game, if you're into that
>>
>>16820038
Learn Japanese. I realize how dumb and callous this advice sounds but it's the only way you'll realistically get to play these games.
>>
>>16831532
>not to mention the game is practically impossible without a guide
I guess it's your first time playing non linear vn?
If you were so casual that you can't finish a fucking vn then there is always instruction manual that gives you tips
>>
>>16820038
You got memed on boy since yuno art is not so great and the only good thing about the game is it's soundtrack and non linear story, but those has been done by now in those 15 years.
Also if you had a brain you could have found that some guys did translation of this game 5 years ago with original art and soundtrack along with extras from saturn version.
>>
>>16831526
I tried playing it. It looked really interesting, but the interface once you're out of the prologue was just so awful. Maybe it's just because I never really played any text adventure games, but it was just outright impossible for me to tell what I could interact with, what would actually advance the story, and that's not even counting the branches and hidden stuff ("Examine the notebook that explains how to use this tool. Choose not to read it. Pick up the item that appears. Now read the manual").

Also no text skip and a lot of other nice stuff later games added.
>>
>>16838482
Wow, even jp is filled with retarded underaged kids now
How can you be so casual that you can't even play a fucking visual novel, just read the text retard and as a matter of fact the game has text skip
>>
>>16838482
>Also no text skip
Hold control, you tard
>>
>>16838361
it's not a VN, it's point and click
and some of the shit is completely retarded, you have to click invisible things in a specific order many times to progress
>>
>>16842022
Nah, you don't and it happens like 4 times in the whole game because you need to find something, clicking things few times is not that hard.
Maybe you shouldn't play video games? I bet you would shit your pants if a game required you to input some text or do some puzzle and let's not even talk about those scary old games where you couldn't even use a mouse and needed to input some text!
>>
>>16842221
Not him, but shit does get tedious. For example:
>outside Kanna's room
>that one scene at the park in Ayumi's route
There was another one of the writer's games with similar shit too, such as a part where you need to click Look, Talk, Wait and Think several times until something happens.
>>
>>16842232
I think those moments were random and you just clicked shit until you triggered a scene.
Then again stuff like that happened very often in older adventure games, some oven had game over screen if you fucked something up and needed to reload
>>
>>16841816
>>16840323
Shit, you're right. Maybe it was history, then. Unless that's in there too and I legitimately missed it.

I haven't touched it in months. All I remember was it lacking interface features that are common in modern games.
