I think that Rance is outperforming because it wasn't released too long ago and now is the 4th VN most sold of MG catalogue.
>>
>>16381609
Aside from BBH it's the only vn with gameplay they released.
>>
>>16381618
Koihime Musou
DMC
Boob Wars
>>
>>16381645
Anon, are you stupid?
They didn't release those in this year.
>>
>>16381660
You didn't say this year. And the list is for 2016 sales, not for VNs released in 2016.
>>
>>16381660
That's not what you were stating tho. A lot of gameplay VNs that aren't also glorified nukiges (like Boob Wars) didn't do too hot, like Koihime. BBH and Rance on the other hand seem to be breaking the rule.

So it's not like people were starving for gameplay VNs when BBH came out.
>>
>>16381590

Rance is almost certainly a titan to be reckoned with. Given how it ranked fourth in the end of the year rankings with only a single month of sales, it might actually reach that 5k sales total that one anonymous suggested months ago.
>>
>>16381672
>didn't do too hot, like Koihime
Koihime Musou was one of MG's bestsellers. There's a reason it's one of their listed titles on their twitter. All gameplay titles MG has released have done very well.
>>
>>16381725
I recall it flopping quite hard, regarding cost to localize vs actual income.
>>
>>16381747
It broke even at 2,000 copies and went on to be a really good hardcopy seller and sold way more in digital as well over the following several years. It still does really well when MG has sales. So, while it was slow out of the gate, its long term sales have been very good.
>>
>>16381769
Hmm, must've been a 2012 thing then. It's been such a long time, all I remember is MangaGamer having a lot of difficulties getting their localization costs rounded out due to lack of sales.
>>
>>16381773
It took it around a year for it to break even with voices at 2k copies. It got a hardcopy run and kept charting in the year end chart for several years after that, so it very likely profited at least several thousand sales.
>>
>>16381786
It's a shame GH fled VNTS as it's a little hard to verify now. Regardless though, whether Koihime did good or not, BBHs success alone means we'll get more gameplay VNs in the future.

You can just check year end summaries on MG's blog. It did well on both main chart and chart.

http://blog.mangagamer.org/2015/01/26/look-back-at-2014/
Hardcopy charted in 2014.

http://blog.mangagamer.org/2014/02/12/final-review-of-2013/
Digital copies still charted in top 10 in 2013.
>>
>>16381423
End of Kickstarter surges are accompanied by a flood of new backers which has not happened here. And there have already been issues troll pledges.
>>
>>16381895
They recently added heroine goods people have been asking for. The dedicated existing backers could be the cause. There's also a final 48 hour rush due to the reminder that goes out and the Thunderclap, so even if some pledges are trolls it won't be enough to cause the campaign to fail. If anything the trolls will cause more people to donate, since they're making it seem closer to Vita goal.
>>
>>16381909
Oh, the campaign isn't going to fail. I'm not fear mongering in that regard, just saying some of the pledges look suspicious. They could even hit the Vita goal if all the pledges are actually legit.
>>
>>16381931
I think someone suddenly took up a $1,500 tier. So, a few troll pledges are definitely possible.
>>
>mfw EOPs will never ever get 神咒神威神楽

Does saying 神咒神威神楽 is a spin-off sequel to Dies Irae count as a spoiler here? Or do you already know?
>>
>>16381974
More likely, light will release KKK year after DI, and then make several DI english steam-only sequels with nekomimi heroines and no adult scenes.
>>
>>16381931
Lot of people in comments were talking about reducing their pledges to 1$, they're probably increasing them now that KS is going to meet the goal.
>>
>>16381976
I would pay top dollar for Reinhard/Mercurius moe spinoff.
>>
>>16381976
They should just release their normal adult titles. How long does it take for them to learn that there is no audience difference. We eat the same games here as they do there.

Even though I wish I could claim we didn't gobble down rape fetish games all the time.
>>
>>16381976

>The rating suggests Sega, or possibly its subsidiary Atlus, is localizing the Aquaplus-developed visual novel / RPG. In Japan, it was released for PlayStation 4, PS Vita, and PlayStation 3.

It's atlus, sega doesn't have an inhouse localization crew anymore(they contract it out to a couple of companies started by translators they let go lol). Not to mention atlus has done other aquaplus stuff
>>
>>16386557
>Only the Vita version rated
Ehhhhh
>>
>>16387151
PS4 rating just isn't there yet. There's no chance Atlus/Sega release only the Vita version and skip the PS4.
>>
>>16381431
Haruka has charted first place 6 times during the many weeks it charted, though not in a row.

By comparison, Rance VI has charted 1st 6 weeks in a row with no real signs of stopping. It's probably going to stay on the chart until Otakon at this rate if its tail is similar to Haruka, and it's very likely to be a mainstay on the top 10 list.

I wonder how releases of future Rance games will affect sales of Rance VI. Sengoku doesn't really require Rance VI, but Quest does need both VI and Sengoku, and IX has important characters who debut in all three of those games.
>>
>>16382031
They will increase their pledges because let's be honest we are 14k or even 16k away from the goal and the final 48 hours or 24 hours is important. I hope the Kickstarter PR is at least competent enough to tell everyone it is the final 24 hours and to see if they can make it.
>>
>>16388061
48 hour notices go out automatically. And there's still no chance this fails even after those troll pledges were withdrawn.
>>
>>16389819
You wish. The Vita backers will pull out simultaneously, and who knows how many 2.5k+ trolls there are. It's not happening, and light will blame a lack of interest rather than incompetence.

RIP, non-moege.

Obviously we need a Dies Irae/Nekopara crossover; that'll get funded for sure.
>>
>>16396596
Actually good news in that regard.

Dies Irae has added a ton of new rewards on their final announcement for the next 24 hours. And actually they are pretty damn worth it even for the low tiers and higher tiers.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1986219362/dies-irae-english-localization-project-commences/posts/1781697

and it has even jumped to 156k as of writing. This is definitely going to be funded. Only 4k left now.

Just to count it up
Crowdfunding - 10 projects, 0 with visible names
In Development - 28 projects, 8 with visible names
QA - 4 projects, all with visible names
Marketing - Nothing
Launchable - Just Meikyuu 18+, which has since been released
Far right at end - 3 notes, one probably a category name with two projects, Falls at the end of the line of In Dev, QA, marketing, and launchable.
Top portion - 5 not-visible notes (presumably 4 projects and a category?).

A number of the hidden projects should be existing titles, likely kept hidden to avoid announcing which titles have crowdfunding planned.

For what it is worth, The Labyrinth of Grisaia is up to 6th on Denpa's popularity sort (which seems to be based on lifetime performance, aside from the free Sakura titles which are omitted) and has been climbing steadily. It is still behind the original Grisaia, two Nekopara releases, Sunrider Academy, and a Sakura title.
>>
>>16398064
I'd expect that the majority of their current crowdfunding projects on that board are full length titles they have announced. They make out well with the Chrono Clock approach, no risk, able to cash in on higher spenders, and they fund a batch of physical copies to sell online/at conventions. Although it probably does mean they probably have a parade of moege Kickstarters ready to go not long after Nekopara.

They got several top-level games like Baldr series, Nutaku financial and retail backing, huge loyal following.
Few loud MG shills like you don't affect their bottom line at all, they are already number #1 west VN company by sales, money flow, license number and quality and they will only keep growing bigger while JAST and MG fade in obscurity and sell nothing but rape nukiges because other bigger players don't want to touch this niche.

>>
https://twitter.com/sekaiproject/status/819654304621625350

Seems Sekai Project is opening an otome brand. Although a doujin title which already had an IGG localization project fail hardly seems like the strongest title to open the brand with.

Interestingly there is an R18 Japanese release and the failed IGG localization project had included it, but remains to be seen if they handle it through Denpasoft or not for the new brand.
>>
>>16402551
Baldr Sky honestly seems like it'll be buried under all of the other Steam releases. A kickstarter would be Sekai's best bet at breaking even, mainly because all of the hype is within the VN community unlike Rance.

Even then though, the main reason VN localization kickstarters have been succeeding recently have been Vitafags, and Sekai isn't the most reliable company when it comes to providing a Vita port.
>>
>>16403216
We unfortunately have no way to judge raw numbers, and the popularity sort only deals with how titles do relative to one another. It wouldn't be a surprise to see Meikyuu get up to 2nd place, but if there happens to be a large gap between first and second it wouldn't do much to answer if the steep decline between the first and second title on Steam also happened with the 18+ releases.
>>
>>16403269

>Even then though, the main reason VN localization kickstarters have been succeeding recently have been Vitafags, and Sekai isn't the most reliable company when it comes to providing a Vita port.

Sekai seems to be going hard after Vita this year thanks to their Limited Run partnership. However Sky is unlikely to benefit from that unless Giga is willing to put in the effort as there is no Japanese release that is Vita ready, with just a 4:3 800x600 resolution version available.
>>
>>16403269

Baldr Sky will probably be a tough sell, it's an old game that looks its age and doesn't even run at a modern resolution. And I doubt Sekai Project will do the work to update its engine. It has the potential to be like Xanadu Next, a quality old Japanese game coming to Steam and bombing because it doesn't look particularly interesting in screenshots.
>>
>>16403231
If they do the 18+ version, then it'll probably sell fine. Bishounen are probably more popular than old men, but I'm sure that it's a sizable niche.
>>
>>16403302
Except Baldr Sky isn't much of a game at all and is essentially porn with extra steps. It won't win over modern gamers. the best Sekai can hope for is a successful Kickstarter, because it sure as shit won't be a profitable title otherwise.
>>
>>16403425
>Except Baldr Sky is essentially porn with extra steps
WTF? Baldr Sky is one of the best VN over there. Plebs these days...
>>
>>16402551
Have fun with your absolute garbage tier translation! that is assuming Baldr Sky even comes out because Sekai fucked over Aroduc who almost had the damn thing completely translated already.
>>
>>16403566
What did they do to Aroduc? I've worked with him before. He's alright.
>>
>>16403606
Attempted to lowball the fuck out of him for the work he and the group had done and then kick them out and replace them. It killed his will to translate and he hasn't done anything since.
>>
>>16403615
Wow, that is truly fucked up. What a bunch of scumbags. The guy has done so much over the years, long before anyone thought VNs would ever make their way to Steam. It's really not fair that he gets screwed over once people start actually making money doing what he did for free.

I hope the guy comes out of it alright.
>>
>>16403606
Sekai's strategy is to say "We'll call you" and then leave you at the phone waiting until you are nothing more than bones.

I'm sure Aroduc would have been happy to be told to throw his translation in the trash rather than to be kept in the dark.

But I guess it is to be expected. Sekai doesn't even have their deal finished for the rights for the game, so why would they start negotiating for translations? See you winter 2017 when Sekai has established "it will only be all-ages" and we are looking for a translator.
>>
>>16403665
Shameful. I know what it's like to wait on a check from these companies, though.
>>
>>16403566
Nobody except dozen of pirates from /vnts/ cares about translation quality. Nekopara games are doing great and they are total garbage translation-wise, its literally impossible to translate Baldr Sky worse than that since language in BS is very trivial, even google translate would do good enough.
If they throw Clannad team on it, they could easily release BSD1 by the end of this year.
>>
>>16403778
What part of being an outlier do you not understand anon. As long as cute Cat girls are doing cute things with Sayori's art that shit is going to sell.
>>
>>16403874
Its same with almost any other game. MG's ImoPara is complete garbage too, but its top seller for 3rd year. KF is full of mistranslations, typos and bad grammar, but almost nobody cared.
If you have good editor and pander to typical weeaboo issues like honorifics, translation quality doesn't matter at all, you can just make up shit and they will still love it.
>>
>>16403874
Does anyone REALLY care about the literary faithfulness of the translation of Nekopara? It wasn't a masterpiece in Japanese either.
>>
>>16403874
There are very few titles where the translation quality will make a significant difference in sales potential as long as it isn't as bad as something like the original Edelweiss translation. For the most part that list of titles where translation quality would make a noticeable difference is niche titles with limited sales potential in the first place.

Yet it'll sell worse than (insert random moege here). Why even bother localizing non-moege? Doesn't make any sense from a financial standpoint.
>>
>>16406383
I would argue their stack of moege is a bigger risk. Baldr Sky is likely to disappoint sales wise, possibly not make a return on their investment, but it is well known enough that an all out disaster is unlikely. Much the same way that Dies Irae was able to beat every VN localization kickstarter since Muv Luv despite a horribly flawed campaign. Baldr Sky also has a better chance of taking off than most of Sekai's lineup (not that it will, but the potential is there). On the other hand, if the moege market begins to fade (and we haven't had a good test since Princess Evangile). most of their expensive licenses would feel the pain.

Although most of their lineup has access to secondary revenue streams (Kickstarter/Nutaku/Vita) to help migrate a Steam disaster even if they were to struggle on Steam.

>>
>>16406439
>On the other hand, if the moege market begins to fade (and we haven't had a good test since Princess Evangile)
There was the Chrono Clock Kickstarter, a model you should expect SP to follow with their other titles.
>>
>>16407719
The Chrono Clock Kickstarter, while a fair success to sell hard copies, wasn't exactly the kind of result that will assure strong sales on Steam/Nutaku when it is released. It also hardly means that the 4th or 5th moege in their current lineup will still see the same kind of initial success.
>>
>>16406439
I think that moege are similar to nukige in that they fulfill a base desire, the latter being sexual desire, and the former being the desire for moe (or in less weeaboo terms and more pretentious terms, escapism and emotional fulfilment).

Obviously, one desire is more fundamental than the other, but moege aren't going away anytime soon.
>>
>>16407701
Da Capo III should be a fair test to see how such titles are holding up on Steam long after Princess Evangile, as would SakuSaku or whatever moege Sekai releases first. SukiSuki, being a purely MG release, isn't really going to be indicative of Steam performance of other titles, and its success or failure will probably depend on if MG can get its nukige audience to buy a moege with good art and a fair amount of H-content.
>>
>>16407881
Agreed, and moege should hold up better than other genres (and probably have decent off Steam potential, especially on Nutaku). However, one also shouldn't overstate their expectations, there is no reason to expect that moege are exempt from the same decline on Steam that has affected most VNs. Especially if one is basing expectations on Princess Evangile, which got a sizable amount of support from the type of people who are no longer part of the market.

The MG sales chart should become more useful again this week, to see how long it takes Da Capo 3's launch to get ahead of Rance (which has maintained the top slot, aside from 1 day, since the day after it went up for preorders).

DC III on site sales are not likely to beat out Rance VI's lifetime sales, however it is hard to believe that Da Capo's launch week sales on the MG site (as obviously Steam sales aren't included in the chart) won't be higher than Rance's week 5 sales, which is all it needs to do to get into the first slot temporarily.
>>
>>16410587

Given how heavily rance overperformed, I think it's very possible it could still have such a volume of sales that DC3 won't be able to uncap it.

Himawari managed to outdo Rance on its release day, didn't it? Or at least, there was one day that Rance got dethroned by Himawari.

>>
>>16410694
That's possible, but for traditional vidya, preorders are only 10% of the initial sales.

I'd imagine that with VNs, the percentage is quite a bit higher, but Rance's sale pattern could be more representative of traditional vidya simply because it's more popular. The number that Himawari had to compete with could pale in comparison with what Da Capo has to compete with.

>so it's bizarre that it went unnoticed in a community that had been begging for Dies irae and similar titles for years.

The community you mention is bunch od Redditors listening to memers on Twitter.

Tokyo Babel was an expensive license that was picked up along side a bunch of other Steam targeting titles when everything on Steam was selling like crazy.

Although we only know the launch was a disappointment, if it got to its place in the chart in part because of a long tale, it may not be as much of a disappointment as it was (although it certainly didn't reach the expectations they would have had when they picked it up, but you could say the same about all MG's Steam releases this year aside from Kindred Spirits and OzMafia.)
>>
What Alicesoft title will they release this year? Escalayer?
>>
>>16412467
Hopefully Evenicle.
>>
>>16412467
That 10 year old kusoge you don't care about. MG delivers.

Tsumamigu confirmed
>>
>>16412463
So? why not just admitting someone was just pulling shit out of his ass? placing between two higurashi releases in nothing close to 'it bombed'. People here just love to take their speculations as absolute facts.
>>
>>16412598
TB mostly sold for 50% off.
>>
>>16412467
Probably Escalayer or Oyako Rankan, maybe Sengoku Rance, Galzoo, or Blade Briders. Evenicle is probably too new, and anything older than Rance 5D (like Daiakuji and Atlach Nacha) is probably way too old. Daiteikoku is neither of those things, but it doesn't have the best reputation.
>>
>>16412607
There's no way to actually know that.
>>
>>16412607
Well 2016 in review was mostly based on revenue and not the number of copies sold (Haro didn't confirm, but it reasonable assumption considering higurashi Ch3 which take the 6th place have around 7k+ copies sold), the discount will not affect its place on the list.
>>
>>16412426
Yes, it bombed really hard, remember that it was on sale almost all the time and it reached %60 off.
Being on the best sold list doesn't mean shit like that.

Escalayer and they could probably get a Rance title in for December 2017
>>
>>16413238
Bad end is busy with Sorcery Jokers, and even if he already started, I don't see Arunaru being able to translate both Escalayer and either Sengoku or Rance 01 by next year, much less the beta testers and programmers finishing the all of the final touches.

What should I put in my third slot for mangagamer's poll?
I got Natsu no Iro no Nostalgia and Hare Nochi Kitto Nanohana Biyori in the first 2 spots.
I was thinking of Mamiya-kunchi no Itsutsugo Jijou because sister incest and we know how well that worked out for MG before.
I was also thinking of Kurano-kunchi no Futago Jijou because fuck yeah, twincest!
Or should I just go with Chiccha Love Apart.

You guys think MG could get a partnership with Parasol? I'm not asking just because their games have a bunch of little girls, just so you know.

Listen to what your dick tells you and go for the lolis
>>
As I see it, it is a must to go for the lolis.

Not making lolige can only mean loss. While going for them will either give us a brief moment when we can enjoy them before they are banned, or opens up society for debate so they can progress and learn that drawings don't suffer.

Though society progressing forward seems unlikely, so mainly just to get loli before society breaks.

Rance 01 is really short

It pains me not to go with twincest, but you made a very convincing argument for the lolis.
>>
I don't know why people keep saying Evenicle is impossible for being too new, when it's going to make two years since it's release on april and if MG do announce it, it's release will only happen the earliest by the end of the year if Arunaru starts working on it early.

And please stop recommending Blade Briders, it is a painfully mediocre srpg, that sold so little that Alicesoft already stopped making copies of it.

I'm an /m/fag, so that's the main reason I want it.

I want Evenicle and other titles more of course, but I can't help but fap to shit like this.

>that sold so little that Alicesoft already stopped making copies of it
Wouldn't that mean they could potentially get the license on the cheap though?
>>
The Labyrinth of Grisaia is now up to third on Denpa's popularity sort, behind only the Nekopara volume 2 patch and the original Grisaia.
>>
>>16415088
Maybe it'll convince them to prioritize their 18+ releases instead of putting them on the backburner!

Ha.
Ha,
Ha,
>>
>>16415600
At the very least, I'd be surprised if they handle another title like Grisaia again. Anything with Nutaku's involvement would probably be same time release if not R18 first because Nutaku throws in funding on those projects. Additionally, their recent crowdfunding projects have made the R18 release one of the major selling points, even on Kickstarter with Chrono Clock. Not to mention that there is more reason to focus on R18 releases now that releases on Steam aren't selling like crazy anymore.

They still may have titles without an R18 release if the publisher isn't on board (or if they want to avoid something like Maitetsu), especially for licenses they picked up when they didn't care about Denpasoft at all. But the circumstances that lead to the Grisaia mess probably won't be repeated.
>>
>>16408275
I did my part. I asked for more NTR, hopefully they deliver.
>>
>>16408275
1) White Album 2
2) Caucasus ~Nanatsuki no Nie~
3) Evenicle

I hope 2017 will be awesome.
>>
>>16415088
How can it be behind the patch? Nobody bought that. That is like saying Grisaia has sold less than 100 copies.
>>
>>16412467
Daiakuji, Evenicle and a bundle Sengoku + 01.
>>
>>16416698
>Daiakuji
Never ever ever
>>
>>16416693
Nekopara volume 2 on Steam looks to be around 200k units sold. You don't need that high of an attachment rate to get a decent number on Denpasoft.
>>
>>16416703
If Daiakuji does make it on the list (probably unlikely, but I've noticed a significant amount of people vote for it), then at least MG will be forced to comment on it.
>>
I can't do it anymore. 5D is just so fucking bad, I'm skipping it.
>>
>>16421597

It's really sort though.
