The problem is that the scan isnt perfect, so the print has flaws. the rough edges can easily be sanded out.

There are 3D scanning devices out there. Figs are pretty hard to scan. Too many crevasses and small parts. Here's my 肉

I remember a few years ago at a Zbrush Summit thing there was a guy that did some walkthroughs of cleaning up 3D scans of guns to use for video games. The scan is a good first step, but with small parts it's just not effective yet.

It's more of a thing of the scanner's quality. I have a friend who can perfectly scan even the tiniest figures but then again, it's his job.
