Chrono Clock will release first. SP seems to have multiple translators working on it and doesn't give a damn about editing/QC. They won't make the January date they promised, but they'll rush it out as soon as possible.

Well chrono clock was announced almost a year and a half ago, and is also the shorter game so SP would have to be extremely incompetent not release it first. Also whoever is translating Hapymaher is going about 1%-2% every week so a late 2016/early 2017 release is probably when it's going to come out.

So how did Please Bang My Wife sell? chance of more Atelier Sakura titles?
>>
>>16070789
I won't support MG after the recent shitty releases.
>>
>>16071207

It launched during a bundle, so no one knows. It charted for four weeks and change.
>>
>>16071258

What shitty releases?
>>
>>16071271
Well, lazy translation + shitty localization would be more accurate. I read through Kyonyuu Fantasy and now I'm reading Detective Masochist. Both of them were riddled with grammar errors, typos (the type which would just require someone to read through it once to find them), and localization which doesn't really feel MGesque.
>>
>>16071284

Detective Masochist wasn't MG. They're just selling it.
>>
>>16071287
Who translated it then? VNDB doesn't say anything and it is decensored.
>>
>>16071300

Presumably u-me soft themselves. You can also buy their stuff on nutaku and jast too.
>>
>>16071300

Ume Soft's been doing it themselves.
>>
>>16071284
Where can I buy this Kyonyuu Fantasy? I don't see it in their store and would like to play it.
>>
>>16071332

Are you incapable of using basic intelligence and vndb anonymous?
>>
>>16071357
He's joking, you dumbass.
>>
>>16071284
With their huge upcoming lineup, their brisker release schedule, and the reality that a spotless translation doesn't do much for sales (especially for specific genres) compared to a "good enough" translation, I suspect the quality of the average MG release will slip a bit even if they maintain it for their higher profile releases.
>>
>>16071284
Kyonyuu had a few typos, but all things considered the translation was good.
If anything, the only real gripe I have with it was the conversion from metric to imperial measurements, but I recognize that is not really that major of a thing and likely even preferable to Americans.

I haven't gotten around to Detective Masochist yet though.
>>
>>16071258
For what it's worth, other than one typo in Myth, "Rlri", I didn't notice anything else. Bar the utterly no-effort adult content, it was a good read.
>>
>>16071469
Kyonyuu was done by a new guy though. Not sure about the editor (or if he even had one), but he's doing Dal Segno next.

That one has the same editor as DCIII, so it probably wouldn't be as typo-riddled.
>>
>>16071469
Yeah, Kyonyuu felt fine but the editor just didnt comb over it enough times.
>>
>>16071601
It felt like the translator didn't know what apostrophes do.
>>
>>16071601
I definitely think calling Kyonyuu Fantasy's translation "lazy" and "shitty" is really excessive... this is coming from someone that read the original Edelweiss TL, that is. The TL could easily be called mediocre, sure, but not everyone can be Koestl. Editing could have been better but the translation itself isn't bad enough to be so heavily criticized.
t. person who knows Japanese and read the TL'd version while listening to the audio and found the translations to generally be accurate and a reasonable representation of the original spoken dialogue

>t. person who knows Japanese

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you’re referring to as Baldr Sky Dive, is in fact, Baldr Sky / Dive or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, Baldr Sky plus Dive. Baldr Sky Dive is not a video game unto itself, but rather an expansion of a fully functioning video game.
Many VN readers run an expanded version of Baldr Sky every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of Baldr Sky which is widely used today is often called “Baldr Sky Dive”, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically Baldr Sky, developed by Team Balderhead. There really is a Baldr Sky Dive, and these people are playing it, but it is just an expansion of Baldr Sky.
Baldr Sky is the core video game: the program which runs the game and allows one to play in the first place. Baldr Sky Dive, the expansion, is an essential part of the Baldr Sky video game experience, but is uselessly by itself; it can only function in the context of being played with Baldr Sky. Baldr Sky Dive is used in combination with Baldr Sky: the whole game is basically Baldr Sky with Dive added, or Baldr Sky/Dive. All the so-called "Baldr Sky Dive" video games are really just Balder Sky plus Dive.

One doesn't become a big translator without translating a single H-scene. He's a spy from SP.
>>
>>
>>16072479
I may be wrong but I think he translated the 18+ version of Himawari. The Pebbles in the Sky version only came out in 2015-08-27 which would be around the time he finished the TL and would be approaching MG.
>>16072488
The worst part is all these characters named Yuuri are being shortened to Yuri and it's just like stop.

18+ version of Himawari would be nice, but nobody is doing that. If I had that one I'd buy the all-ages version too.

Of course they won't. If MG sold Himawari original version it would surely sell even less than what the ported Himawari version will sell. Why do I think this? Because it's of higher resolution and shinier. That's what casuals on the VN scene like. They would simply look at Himawari original version, compare with the ported and ask what the fuck was that.

I'd like to personally say that if Himawari version with the same art as the ported version had ero, I'd only get that version. Anyway, I'm planning on buying Himawari once it's out.

It is hardly unusual for taste in a thread like this to not reflect the sales potential of a title. Nukige titles generally don't get that much attention here aside from a few select high profile titles, while they make up a large portion of MG's on site sales.

Although as far as best selling upcoming title goes, Go Go Nippon 2016 is likely to be that title, and after that some other Steam release is likely to get best sales overall (perhaps Princess Evangile W Happiness, Golden Fantasia, Fashioning Little Miss Lonesome, or Da Capo 3 if it manages to takes off) while Rance VI is likely to dominate everything else as far as sales on the main MG site goes. Even as far as extreme content titles goes, hard to see Kuroinu matching Maggot Baits

The OVAs pretty much improved the designs and highlighted the best scenes, so people expecting a quality in par with the animated version will be very disappointed with the game.

The only reason they have any translators left is because some translators don't want to see a good VN get shitty translations so they're willing to work for cheap.

The vnts is basically misinformation central when it comes to the inner workings of jast(far worse than other companies atleast). To my knowledge, makoto was trying to get out of the chinese power point business as of a year ago(and may have even left already, given the whole flowers situation). That was back when jast even put up an ad for his job. And he didn't translate sonicomi, he just tlced it. Maria translated it.

Up until 2015 makoto actually was really busy(he was general manager for jast). Then he stepped down to only work on N+ stuff, of which he retranslated hanachirasu and tlced sonicomi.

The Dies Irae Kickstarter that was stealth announced in Japan and was supposed to launch in October? Hah.
>>
>>16078060
The people who are willing to entertain a Sharin no Kuni Kickstarter are largely the same audience who is aware of Dies Irae, and are much more likely to throw their money at that.

Running the Dies Irae Kickstarter before the anime is a poor choice because the anime will bring a much larger crowd aboard and lead to much better results. However, Sharin no Kuni, which is at best going to struggle to reach it's goal even with good conditions, has good reason to want to avoid clashing with Dies Irae.
>>
>>16078079
Dies Irae is going to fail on censored all-ages version. In that respect even Sharin no Kuni would perform better since they acknowledge that a free adult patch is desired.
>>
>>16078095
A free 18+ patch is overrated in terms of what it will bring in, as the crowdfunding market is clearly willing to pay a significant markup for a few porn scenes. As far as reaching a Kickstarter goal goes, the correct solution (from the perspective of Frontwing) would be to price the uncut patch as a separate tier.

It is hard to say how Dies Irae will do without an 18+ patch, but it will depend on Light's ability to make the argument that the significant extra content in Amantes amentes more then makes up for the cut content. Given Light's PR efforts thus far, I have my doubts that they will succeed in convincing many. Although if they were to wait until the anime showed up, the new crowd the anime brings in generally won't care, nor would the sizable Vita audience if they include such a tier.

>>
>>16078459
Hard to say, but could be anywhere from $100k to $250k. Even with just an all ages release they should be able to achieve a reasonable goal, especially if they have a Vita release included with it. However it is not a sure thing that they would, and a smashing success like Muv Luv is pretty much impossible without support from the anime crowd.

You must be a newbie If you really think that all that hate for that VN is because of these "few porn scemes" scenes.
>>
>>16079973
Those were two different points for two different titles.

Karakara, Corona Blossom, Ne No Kami, and Chrono Clock all had the overwhelming majority of backers opt to go to a more expensive 18+ tier, which helped to boost their final totals. This is even true with Corona Blossom volume 2, where people knew that the patch is literally a few porn scenes from the menu yet more then 90% of backers paid twice as much for it. Including a patch in the Kickstarter as a higher price tier likely would have been the correct solution for Sharin as well (from Frontwing's perspective), not that it would have got Sharin to its goal, but it would have been closer as both IGG and Kickstarter backers have proven they are generally willing to pay extra for a patch when there is a tier for it. Although that ship has sailed, and it is probably unfeasible to try and do that now after they offered the patch for free in their first Kickstarter and created such an expectation for the second.

Dies Irae on the other hand the correct solution would have been to wait for the anime and model it off of Muv Luv, where you quietly confirm a patch to revert cuts from the Acta est Fabula release to keep the knowledgeable crowd happy and prevent any controversy while you take advantage of the anime to get broader coverage and appeal. A free patch here to smooth things over would make more sense, since the goal would be to have a broad hit (like Muv Luv) rather than getting what you can from a niche crowd (like Sharin, Corona Blossom, or Chrono Clock). However since it appears they aren't waiting for the anime, and that they are only going with Amantes Amentes version, one of their challenges they face is to be able to convince the type of backers they will draw to support just the Amantes Amentes release, something that Light is likely to struggle with (or at the very least, lose a meaningful percent of their potential total).

I agree with this. Rance seems likely to sell substantially more than Haruka, especially since there won't be any payment processor issues. Probably not 10k launch week or anything too crazy like that, but enough to impress the parties involved. Alicesoft mentioned Haruka selling well on one of their blog posts.

Oyako Rankan or Escalayer are the most likely AS localizations for next year, but Evenicle isn't too unlikely down the line so long as MG sticks with the good Alicesoft games/nukige, and they sell well.

>>

Steam honestly isn't going to start caring about it anytime soon, but when it does happen, I will enjoy Sekai's suffering.

That aside though, Steam starting to care about 18+ patches would be the beginning of the end for them. Would they start going after 3rd party 18+ mods? Offensive mods? Offensive games in general? It won"t end well for Steam.
>>
>>16081236
My guess is that Maitetsu will be what will cause Valve to care. People posting screenshots of 18+ loli porn will likely make Valve take action against patches.
>>
>>16080947

/vn/ is even worse and I don't mistook anything;
in /jp/ we have two general;

-VNTS: is for the discussion of anything related to the translations of VN in the west.
-UVNG: is for the discussion of untranslated Japanese visual novels
>>
>>16081236

I think the main danger is in publishers offering official patches themselves. Most VN publishers don't generate nearly enough sales on Steam that Valve would have a particularly hard time dropping them for circumventing guidelines.

With third party stuff the publisher isn't endorsing or advertising the existence of an 18+ patch or mod.
>>
>>16080116
You keep saying they opted for the more expensive combo when in reality they opted for the cheapest possible way to get a patch short of stealing it.

And yes, it would look pretty terrible if all-ages was the only thing selling because people decided to pirate the patch instead. I'm sure they would quit making patches at all because "Everyone loves all-ages" tiers.

So nobody wants to pay extra. We just do it because the threat is to flood us with censored titles for all eternity.
>>
>>16081236
What needs to happen is MG needs to get out from being the only company that gets singled out not to make patches, rather then Steam to start caring about patches everyone else makes. Sure the latter would hurt Sekai, but it would also hurt Degica and Frontwing while making it less likely to get uncut releases at all from any Steam focused company.

Conjueror tweeted about getting drunk in despair RIGHT after it would be likely that he was told he wasn't going to be the translator (in fact, Frontwing did an AMA and when Conjueror was brought up the PR guy was like "we'll consider it" or some such, not a "we've already hired him").
>>
>>16088711

I have literally no memory of this. He did himawari through mangagamer, so there would have been no moment where he would been told he wasn't the translator, he just wouldn't have been contacted at all.

The only thing I remember from back then was this ask.fm http://ask.fm/Conjueror/answers/137166274779 and then the AMA happened like a month later in august, so it'd all still line up.
>>
>>16088839
Having it be made clear someone else is translating it is about the same as not being contacted. It's also important to consider how little Frontwing cares about translators. There's the whole controversy with the Phantom Trigger translator, there's how they picked up the Michiru fan TL, etc etc. I doubt that if they would ignore Koestl for PT they would go for Conjueror for Island.
>>

I think it's just that people in the West who don't know Japanese just have no way to tell if a translator is really that good. Is that really their fault?

With Himawari being released on the 9th, that leaves December 2nd, 16th, 23rd and 30th as the remaining open Fridays for the year. If Rance remains on schedule, it will probably be released on either the 23rd or 30th.

It's a no name lolige with art as expected. Of course no one give a fuck about it.
>>

Rance
>>
>>16090409
>Supipara
That had many other issues, including being incomplete episodic, mediocre overall, and not well-received in Japan.

>Myth
It starts out bad the first few hours and the art is bound to turn people off.

In general I think MG no longer offering free Steam keys with purchase has lowered sales for them. People want both Steam features and adult content.
>>
>>16090410
>they should have re-re-made it so it had an adult patch.
MG doesn't do adult patches for Steam, it just would've had an adult version on MG's site. And the game devs prefer it being all ages.
>>
>>16091469
Well, you have to remember why they are not doing it anymore.
>>
>>16091474
Of course they do. Try and find a single developer that enjoys supporting dual configurations of products. It is annoying and a pain. So if your choice is only all-ages or only adult, the choice is pretty clear for cashing in.
>>
>>16091633
I don't care. I'll form my own opinion on it.

I take it this is probably from the title they are working on.
>>
>>16090394
The big question for next year is how do sales for the upcoming parade of Moege hold up (as a combination of Steam + offsite distributors). People point to moege being strong sales wise because Princess Evangile was a success, but it is also the most recent data point we have.
>>
>>16091595
adult?
>>
>>16092428
Well, there's also the fact that moege/nukige seem to do the best (Nekopara, Libra success, etc). Chrono Clock also had a successful Kickstarter while Root Double had to slog along.
Moege certainly have more appeal than most other VNs (barring VNs with anime or gameplay VNs), but it does remain to be seen how the sales for the future titles will do. They'll probably do better than the last few plotge at a minimum, though.
>>
>>16092520
Grisaia? It's a charage.
>>
fuck sjw.
>>
>>16092520
> Chrono Clock also had a successful Kickstarter while Root Double had to slog along.

Root Double brought in significantly more though. Although the final results aren't directly comparable because Root Double got a Vita version and needing to make a goal might have brought in more than they would have got otherwise. Regardless, Chrono Clock was a success because they set it up to have no chance of failure.
>>
>>16092520
Island should probably be a decent hit since it isn't episodic all-ages. Angel Beats could also be pretty good if people still remember the anime.
>>
Rewrite+ gays?
>>
>>16092564
Island should be a decent hit because they will release it along side the glorified commercial of the Island anime. Without that it probably would struggle like Himawari is likely to do.
>>
>>16092570
Himawari will struggle more because it is techinically censorship of a rare lolicon VN. Not to mention all the boob buyers will ignore the title because it only contains children.

It will be a repeat of the TERA Elins again. People will complain about censorship and about not enough localization of adding boobs.
>>
>>16092629
Being purely an all ages release is going to hurt Himawari somewhat (although neither Frontwing nor MG were ever going to touch an H-version). But being a fairly unknown, plot heavy title lacking in anything to make it an immediate draw, it always was going to struggle.
>>
>>16092697
On that account it sounds like it should outsell Fata Morgana. Since there is no immediate draw on that either and it has to work on people hyping it up after trying it out.
>>
>>16092546
Fuck off, Conjueror.
>>
>>16092780
Himawari also has the potential to benefit from a longish tail if Island happens to be a hit and MangaGamer can find some way to capitalize on that with Himawari.

$80k goal this time around.
>>
>>16093393
It might be manageable if they push hard enough, though at the same time they may have left it too close to Christmas now, which is a big fuck up on their part.
>>
They went in big time with premium tiers, 5 tiers from $1000 through $5000.
>>
>>16093393

Stretch goals of $105k for the heroine epilogues from the fandisc, and $145k for a physical Vita release.

It probably would have been better to find a way to make a Vita release (even if digital only at first) as part of the base goal, but either way $80k as a base seems much more likely to be reached then the $145k they had last time.
>>
wtf i hate mangagamer now
>>
>>16093631
There's a difference between being prickly and being a massive asshole but anyway, /jp/ isn't the place for this take the twitter drama to /vg/.
>>
>>16093572

vita stretchgoals are the smart game. No one actually wants to pay the money to do a vita port, but this way you can get those vitafags money. mikandi's bait and switch with it was a hilarious example. "We'll make a vita\mobile version if we hit this stretch goal." "Whoops, looks like a vita version isn't feasible lol"
>>
>>16093681
I think they only guaranteed the mobile version and said that they were considering the Vita.
>>
>>16093681
Can't they just withdraw their pledge if it doesn't get anywhere near the goal?
>>
>>16093719

They could, but the initial momentum helps. Not to mention that if they do come somewhat near the goal, that it looks like they might make it, you can't withdraw a pledge in the last 24 hours.
>>
>>16082656
Last I checked, Steam version had a lot of upscaling and translation issues, since all the translations from the original were not copied, and the engine is a lot more buggy and unstable than the JAST version. Plus, if you're a materialistic autist like me, you can't get a physical copy of the Steam version.
>>
>>16093872
Hi Jast.

The UI translations were pretty bad, but at least some of them have been fixed. It's at higher resolution than the JAST version. The main issue is the font needs changed, since it looks bad and is having some issues displaying. They are working on a patch for these issues, so when it's out the Steam version will be the better version.
>>
>>16094345
Actually they did say that they were looking into the font and admitted it might have caused some issues they said it would take time to fix that.
>>
>>16094802
Hope is they get their act together before the inevitable Steam release of Steins;Gate 0.
>>
>>16093617
Only plebbitors love them now.
>>
>>16093393
The release schedule did slip quite a bit though, it now lists the digital release for August 2017 and the Physical release for October 2017.
>>
>>16095004

You're not "supposed" to be buying releases unless it's something you're interested in that meets your standards. /jp/'s mangagamer cocksucking gets a bit extreme in that sense. You've got no obligation to buy anything.

It's all contract shit, so you might as well keep buying whatever interests you. You're lining bamboo's pockets more than any translator. If you really wanna stick it to bdh/haro you can just not buy any of the titles they work on, thereby disincentivizing future titles of theirs. And if you extra-super-seriously wanna stick it to them, you could shoot off an email to evospace complaining about them.

You were pretty much setting yourself up for disappointment in the first place though. It's a dangerous game deifying people, because in the end they're all still people and they all do terrible things.

>>

>>16095671
Had a quick search and the engine/scripts were the problem. Seems he couldn't get Doddler to fix it.
>As for BB3 in the future… even post-behemoth, I wouldn't hold my breath for a number of reasons. The most important one is that SH Chara's engine by default is double-width unicode, so it needs to have some… stuff… hacked to it to make it display English correctly. The hacker who did that for BB1/2 is with MangaGamer now and wasn't returning any messages for fixing the few lingering issues with BB2. I have, however, been told that MG and SHChara have been in touch with each other and they're not totally against it, but not now. Not soon. Not next month. I wouldn't even put bets on this year. But that is a possibility I've heard rumblings of in the future. The point is, until that issue is solved, I'm not going to lift a finger to work on it.

Seems someone on his forum tried to help him out about a month ago. So who knows if he may begin on it now.

MG updated translation status. Rance look like it's on schedule for December. It's looking like Shadows of Pygmalion might beat Da Capo 3 and be the first full release in 2017.

I'm guessing that Rance will be out either the 23rd or 30th of December since it seems to be on track to be ready for release. When they initially advertised it as a 2016 release, and they can make that release, there is no reason to allow it slip to early Janurary.
>>
>>16097122
I said it, not him.
>>
>>16097167
Both Rance titles have finished beta, so Rance for Christmas or New Year for sure. Pygmalion and Da Capo 3 should be the January and February releases. Bokuten is being ported and Dal Segno is making rapid progress.

The fiancee character was over the top on every level. And the nice villagers became psychos at the drop of a hat because the plot demanded it. There are other examples but those 2 are what jump to my mind.
>>
>>16097282
The most lethal character suddenly swearing allegiance to MC was just weird. It only made sense as a way to move the plot forward.
>>
>>16094345
Yeah, I forgot about the font, and it's good to hear they're actually making an effort to fix the problems it has; I was totally expecting all of them go be ignored. But my point stands. Until they do address these issues, it's the inferior version unless you care about the resolution difference.
