How the hell do I even get into IM@S music when there's a million songs? Just pick a girl I like and go from there? But then if they're from 765, they have a lot of group stuff too. Is there even a torrent of this stuff that constantly updates?
why would you?
Pick a girl or unit you like, listen to their stuff.
Listen to Idolm@ster Radio until you feel motivated to play the games.

Just start with the music from the games.
You have to begin with the music first before playing the games. Otherwise you'll just be a secondary, it's exactly the same as touhou.
Start with the games.
Whatever you do, do not play the mobage version. It's pavlovian shit.

Is it cute though?
Just download it all, i grabbed a torrent last year that was 50gb of it. Or listen to the famous ones on youtube with all the jap comments to get a feel. Im@s stuff gets DMCA fairly fast. Get it before its gone.
There's a radio that has pretty much every single song on rotation. Forgot the name, sorry. Just listen for a couple of hours and start picking your favourites

Would it be this?

There's a lot, but it's pretty manageable especially since you can safely disregard everything not 765pro.

but I like Cinderella and Million Live
These four albums would probably be a decent place to start.
Good spread of characters and the songs that fit their image on each of them, and could probably help you identify which voices etc. that you like.

For Million Live, the Live Theater Performance set is a good start or just pick albums with your favorite 765s in them.
For CG just pick whichever girls you want to fug I guess and grab the Cinderella Master and Jewelries disc they're on.
A lot of the CMs are terrible though as they're focused more on being character songs than actual good songs, like Airi's for instance.
