Reddit is a bit of an exception here. Yes, they have a horrible "le upboat xD" culture going on, but this does not prevent good things from floating to the top even there.

Boorus are generally much lower population and have higher quality posters, so the decadence of Reddit doesn't apply.

Aside from this, while overall quality is definitely important some of it comes down to opinion as well. Some people like cute shit, others like dark stories, etc. There's a big variety of writing, story types, drawing types and such to be had.

It's kind of like reading reviews of anime shows. I know it will inevitably be plagued by faggots with bad taste, but that doesn't mean the stuff that goes to the top isn't often good.

This one varies cause Touhou runs on the fans activity and creativity. And Touhou fans are very creative. Yet there's still a lot of schmucks and bad fanwors. Gameplay: I don't like STGs and I don't like single-player games. Mostly I play them just to see the spell cards and story.

If I consider "reading" a 10/10 hobby for myself, I'm not doing it because I evaluated the entire universe of book and found the 50th percentile book a masterpiece. I'm doing it because I thought of my four favorite books of all time.

Lore/Story: 5
-The stories in the games don't offer much, but the official mangos are really good. The world of Gensokyo is really cool with various interesting dynamics between youkai and humans, and the way it uses folk lore is great.

Characters: 4
-Again, not well fleshed out in games but they get interesting in the mangos. Too many of the characters are all about the visual design with absolutely no actual character. (Not something one would expect anyway when you're introducing so many new characters all the time.)

Gameplay: 5
-In general they have the best STG gameplay that I know of, can't get that much into CAVE style or older shooters. On the other hand not all the games (even when ignoring PC98) are perfect 6/6, some I'd even put 4/6 I think.

Music: 6

Derivative Works: 5
-Although some of the derivative work is fantastic (I listen to Touhou doujin music almost exclusively these days), there's also a lot of garbage out there of poor quality and/or that has very little to do with the original work. If just talking about how much enjoyment I personally get from the derivative works I consume, it'd be 6/6 most likely.
