Finally finished Amatsutsumi.

While the resolution itself is good, I couldn't help feeling that the original Hotaru got shorter end of the stick.
I realized that it's for the best but still kinda bothered that there aren't any trace of her emo self left. It made sense to be that way, but still.

Just to make sure but have they confirmed how standalone Baldr Heart will be? I'm a noob who only played Dive 1 and 2 a long time ago and haven't really been following the series or Heart's announcements in general. I couldn't get into Zero due to its clunkiness and I'm not really in a mood to play through inferior games first.

I also have Dive and Zero spoiler related questions. Does Zero reuse Dive 2's "everything was just virtual reality and the world was already destroyed" twist? If I'm not remembering completely wrong, in Dive 2 it was revealed that Kou was the one to actually die in the beginning and Sora became a mercenary in real world, yet in Zero from what little I played you actually meet Kou, unless he's a fake or something. Also I assume Heart will be a sort of prequel too since Dive 2's end of the world feels like they pretty much wrote themselves into a corner.

I think you misunderstood something of the plot. The worlds aren't virtual worlds/simulations or something like that, those were red herrings. They are pareller worlds which splits from the grey christmas. Soras route just happens completely in virtual as the earth become goo in it, - the very ending when Sora&Kou returns to real world + using time sheaningans of virtual world and 特異点 to create new branch world where grey christmas doesn't happen.
And Zero happens in branch where grey christmas happens and Kou lives but before events of Dives. Zero events get retconned anyway a bit.
As for Hearts relations to Sky, you can read it fine without playing the others, there are no heavy connections. But on general Heart happens in branch where the whole assembler incident does happen but after many many years.

They are standalone, you can start with Force, Sky or Heart.

Baldr Sky Zero 1/2 reuses characters from Baldr Sky Dive 1/2, so play Sky Dive before Sky Zero. And Baldr Sky Dive 1 and 2 are just two halves of the same story, so definitely play those in order. Same with Zero 1/2.

Started Baldr Heart. Glad they're using new soundtrack instead of recycling Sky's. The battle system seems fluid again unlike Zero's shit and you start with more weapons unlocked than Sky. Going to get my fix of cyberpunk now and going into hiding to avoid spoilers.

Baldr Sky is considered the best of the bunch so far and it works as a standalone. Get both Dive 1 and 2, install both, launch Dive 1 once then launch Dive 2 and it should detect the first game's install data and asks whether you want to combine the games. Do it and you can play both games' routes through Dive 2's exe. Remember to get the official updates too as they bring important balance patching.

In the current version you start fairly barebones, with 2 empty slots and nothing to fill them until a chapter or two later once your Fei like you enough to start unlocking weapons.

Finished the "common route" of Triangle Love, i.e. right when which route you go on is determined by which version of the game you bought.

Overall, exceptionally lukewarm game. There's nothing really to critique or praise, it's just... there. It's what's advertising with no surprises, no profound writing out of nowhere, no notable OST, etc. If I had to praise one thing, it's that the pacing is very good. Despite taking place over 2 years of their relationship (from starting 1st year in high school to starting 3rd year in high school), the game moves really fast and in that respect it at least isn't a slog. Perhaps one problem, though, with going so fast is that the drama feels a bit thin.

In short: Meh. I won't be finishing this version because I liked Karin more than Ayame. Some of my favourite character archetypes include "bookworm", but Ayame turned out to just be "quiet girl who just on the side likes to read genre fiction" without any of the appeal of a bookworm character, whereas Karin was developed pretty well as a "genki girl with dyed hair who is nonetheless diligent in studying and considerate of others". So, although I don't have much interest doing Ayame's route (which, judging from the OP video, will be mostly fucking anyway) I have some hopes for Karin's in the future.

Hard:
- Sou: 1000HP
- Enemies: 1400 (Mao), 1100 (Nanaka & Hiromi)

Also Nanaka becomes much more aggressive on Hard difficulty, and constantly uses her tackle attack, which deals a lot more damage than the rest. Overall damage output of enemies remain pretty much the same, but since Sou has lower HP, there's a higher death risk on first run. In exchange, you gain considerably more weapon points than on Normal.

I went through the beginning of the game on very hard, but couldn't handle the buttload of viruses they throw at you when you go to the Outsider area, since you don't regain hp after a match or after killing enemies in the beginning. That was a much bigger problem than the 3v1 match, especially since the area you fight the viruses in is really narrow and you get mobbed easily.
Switched to hard and it's much more manageable now.

SakuUta's pacing is kind of off, and I personally found SubaHibi easier to relate to and just generally more fun, so overall I'd go with the latter if I had to pick. But it's a moot point because I consider them both must-reads if you care at all about the sort of thing Scaji writes. SakuUta's second half is full of very powerful scenes, and the Zypressen chapter in particular is easily one of the coolest things I've seen done in any eroge; you'd be doing yourself a major disservice by not reading it.
