It's nekohen dude. His translation has been going for a while and it's been talked about on vndb.

>Sumaga fan TL announced, still at highschool

>>15119814
It is. They realized the Nekohen name was ruined so they rebranded themselves and threw a fit on VNDB when people marked their garbage as machine translations and got the mods to mark it as a real translation and then lock their entries.

Welcome to VNDB's bullshit.
>>
>>15119931
I feel you anon. I can still remember the first time I got into VNs, I heard about this title when I was still a freshman in college. After I graduated and got a job, sumaga is still in editing.

Dovac went on a twitter rant earlier and during that he discussed that AX is looking to be "battle of the VNs this year", that they knew their model "would be copied" and that the the results of that will be apparent at AX.
>>
>>15120013
The more competition the better.

Just hope SP doesn't shit up too many of their releases.
>>
>>15120013

Not really a surprise, FrontwingINT is leading the way as a Sekai Project clone while Visual Arts is bringing over Key titles, and it's doubtful that they are alone in a struggling industry who sees a potentially large Western market from Kickstarter and Steam. Pretty much any title that is either cheap to localize (either short or has a fanTL), has name recognition, or is just a company's recent title is currently a candidate for localization.
>>
>>15120021
>The more competition the better.

It depends on what we get, thankfully Moenovel's absolute butchering didn't take off and trying to do Kickstarters with absolutely no effort doesn't work in the current market as the ChuSinGura 46+1 failures demonstrate. On the other hand good efforts like Degica with Muv Luv and MiKandi Japan have been rewarded. One would hope that the Debonosu Works aren't taking off in a significant way as more of those would be quite a bad way to expand competition.

Sekai Project has their problems, but some of their biggest successes are titles like Nekopara and the Winged Cloud titles which should help avoid new efforts from thinking like Moenovel did, and MangaGamer is paving the way to minimize what needs to be done to release titles on Steam which hopefully others will follow.

>Just hope SP doesn't shit up too many of their releases.

It will be interesting to see what happens with titles such as Ley Line, Tenshin Ranman, and Wagamama High Spec. G-Senjou problems appears to be entirely on Akabei Soft2, considering the answers during the Q&A last week, and the Sharin no Kuni kickstarter having most of the same problems. Frontwing lists Purino Party as "Adults Only" for it's rating, so it's difficult to believe that they are responsible for Sharin no Kuni's being all ages only either. Maitetsu is tricky because of the content that in all likelihood neither Jast nor MG would touch either, but aside from that it remains to be see if uncut Denpasoft releases are the norm or not for their big titles.
>>
>>15120004
What? No entries are locked and the one for the patch makes it clear that it's machine translation. One of the VNDB mods was even giving them shit over it.
>>
>>15120039
Wonder whether they'll still be interested after their first kickstarter falls flat on its arse
>>
>>15120173
They'd probably try to find something to blame, be it deciding to blame the title, their Western staff, or the bullshit from the developer they needed to include in the Kickstarter, as they already had success on Kickstarter with Grisaia. Sharin no Kuni is very well known though, and bullshit aside the expensive tiers are nice, so it is doubtful that it fails.

>Steam version has extensive additional content, routes and scenarios and even some new characters. It's so extensive I've been staying at work til 1 am every night translating it.
Does that mean the extra content isn't canon? I assume they didn't translate 90% of the game just to make the last 10% "extra" content.
>>
>>15120438
The large majority of the content in any route-based VN isn't canon. So I'm guessing no.

Still Bundles. Something appears to be going on with mangagamer's site, however. At the current moment it isn't displaying a top 5 at all, and prior to that, yesterday it appeared to be showing a top 5 that didn't include bundle sales(the first spot being the new AJtilley game and the second being Haruka, and the rest I've already forgotten). I wonder if they're looking to exclude bundles from the top 5?

Finally someone with the balls to stand up against this jewery.

dovac is in whiny mood today, lots of self-victimization and shrieking about ebil fanz.
>>
>>15120013
As long as this doesn't mean censored VNs and terrible translations, I completely support more companies getting in the localization business.

Also, dovac is actually unironically expecting people to not give them shit even when he tries to be more transparent. How can he expect people who felt multiple times offended and ignored to place their faith in SP just by a statement that doesn't confirm or deny anything?

Personally speaking, I don't give anymore the benefit of doubt to SP. If they want me to believe something, I need to see it happen.

To be honest, data points during bundles/bundle aftermath aren't really as important due to all the obscrufication making estimates impossible. Still, more information is more information.

>>15120697

That's a bundle that caused that spike, actually(gigantic spikes like that all are). If you really want an idea what was popular or not, you can look at the top 5 snapshot pastebin, which goes back to july of last year. The numbers/snapshots are sort of meant to be used together. Because the bundles became pretty numerous I also started logging the popularity chart, but it doesn't go back quite as far.

The Q&A they did (in video form, not the partial transcript afterwords) was one of the best things they have done in a long time, and improved my opinion of them as a company at the very least. Dovac is foolish though if he thinks that will make everyone who doesn't like him suddenly like him, or make people forget his constant twitter rants.

You are a fool if you think that Dovac will sell a 18+ version of Maitetsu on Denpasoft. The second and third part of Grisaia will only be all-ages so you can be sure that Maitetsu will be the same.

>>
>>15122022
I would say selling an uncensored Maitetsu would clear their entire history of bad karma because it would be a giant leap for mankind.

But I don't think SP wants the industry to move forward, just backwards.
>>
>>15120101
Whether or not a game gets an uncut 18+ version depends on the dev and what content the game contains.
>>
>>15122152
They more than likely won't do an 18+ release due to fear of backlash from the casual audience and because someone would make a patch for the Steam release and Sekai would want to avoid that due to it tarnishing their all-ages reputation.

They already sold Grisaia uncut for the latter 2 titles in the backer kit, and Frontwing lists their upcoming title as an 18+ game. While there maybe bullshit delays, there is no reason to expect cancellation of Grisaia 18+.

Maitetsu most likely won't happen, and wouldn't happen with anyone in the market right now. Regardless though, the question is what happens with the 5 or 6 other 18+ titles Sekai Project has upcoming.

>>15122168
For trying to avoid controversy, it's funny that Sekai Project does what they can to avoid such problems, then goes out and picks up titles like Maitetsu and Yohjo Simulator.

Definitely not. He used to go by Ludo in the Rance thread, spent years lying about translating games and telling other people not to work on them because they were his projects. Things eventually came to a head when another translator who had pissed off most of that community when he stopped kissing the ring and started pointing out all the errors Ludo was making and demanded to see progress on a game Ludo had claimed. Ludo threw a gigantic temper tantrum, claimed to have severe mental illnesses that give him chronic long term amnesia and severe depression, and then ragequit.

A little later, when there was a big dicksucking festival for him on le Reddit under his alternate name, someone brought all that up so he went scorched earth on all his Rance shit, deleted every single video he had ever subbed, every wiki page he made, etc etc.
>>
Reminder that S;G was re-translated by Makoto.
>>
>>15124088
But his ask.fm account name is sciadv so he probably knows what he's talking about for those games right? I mean he does do all those translations of the drama CDs and supplementary material. Have people complained about the quality of those?
>>
When the people who 'translated' Noble Works are saying that Dracu Riot's translation is full of errors, you have to start wondering.

Well, we don't since we know Insem is shit, but it's amazing that even shit is calling him shit.
>>
>>15124088
Wasn't it Arunaru who destroyed his reputation ? That guy is based.
>>
>>15124097
Has anybody seriously looked at them? He had an entire thread, plus multiple translators who now work for Mangagamer, sucking his dick and defending him for years, even right up to his meltdown.

Most people don't complain about terrible subs to begin with though, especially for half-assed little projects that can be done in an afternoon. Baka-tsuki is practically made of that kind of shit and the legions eagerly lap it up.

I'm a nut suffering from severe disorganized schizophrenia, I have memory issues so bad I can barely remember last week and I don't know my name some days.
I've been suffering from depression for the good part of a year and I really fucking want to work, but I physically cannot bring myself to do it sometimes.
You can post old translation mistakes I made all you want but it doesn't mean shit to me because I legitimately cannot recall making them, I cannot justify strange old choices either because the logic I applied is long since lost. A lot of the translation choices I've made and stuck with even now don't make a lot of sense to me but the me of the past made them and now I'm with them.

I wasn't that interested in it before and I doubt I would be now.
But what's "definitive" about the 3DS version? What's better?
>>
>>15127436
Better voice acting, better art, has actual CGs, more music, extra side stories.
>>
>>15127443
That does sound a lot better.
Then I ask. Why wouldn't they release any of that on PC? Are they afraid that it would cut into the sales of the 3DS version or something? Or is it that the port work itself is more than they'd like to bother with?
>>
>>15127448
XSeed doesn't have the ability to port games themselves, they only have one overstretched programmer that tweaks existing PC games. And there could be licensing issues preventing them from mixing assets from the 3DS release into the PC one.
>>
>Dangarnonpa 2 only has 13k sales on Steam
Well, even hugely (relatively) popular franchises don't sell all that much on PC. Grisaia and Clannad have more than that.

http://steamspy.com/app/413420

I wish they doubled down on the niche audience and released more Vita VNs despite the additional difficulties. At least there's a dedicated guaranteed audience there.

I wonder how much Himawari will sell on Steam and how much it would have sold if they did a Vita version.
>>
>>15127597
>I wonder how much Himawari will sell on Steam and how much it would have sold if they did a Vita version.

>>
>>15127865
>It wasn't exclusive to the PSP, as there's already been an iOS port of it as well. This 3DS version represents the third version of the remake to be released in Japan.

>Porting the remake version to PC, too, is a bit beyond the capabilities of what we'd be able to do on our end, and is unlikely to be done on Japan's side either simply because sales of the remake version would inevitably cut into sales of the original indie PC version. And remember, the indie PC version was released by Team GrisGris exclusively, so Team GrisGris get 100% of the profits -- whereas the PSP, iOS and upcoming 3DS versions were/are being released by 5pb/Mages, so the profits are shared. It's unlikely from a business standpoint, I think, that GrisGris would allow 5pb to publish a remade version of their game on the same platform where the original is already available, as even if it were successful, GrisGris themselves would likely see fewer profits due to the cut 5pb would take from the deal.

>Besides which, the differences between the PC version and the remake are kind of fascinating! They're like two sides of a coin -- it's the same material, but presented in a very different way. I initially dismissed the PC version as being inferior when I saw footage comparing the two, but after playing both, I can honestly say that each one has its charms, and it's really hard to decide which I like better.

I want to disagree. One of the most basics things which I never could stop wondering about after it first came to my mind was never answered.

Why Tokyo?

The story takes its setting from Christian mythology and then throws in Tokyo which doesn't come to my mind when trying to come up with important places from Christian mythology. Why not Jerusalem or something similar important? Atleast give me some bullshit reason why Tokyo is so important but don't just throw it at my face pretending that it's the obvious choice.

You're using Steamspy wrong. The sales on both of these games are too low for us to know anything about where their sales are.
>>
>>15128644
I haven't seen any hate boner for the game in /vn/. Apart from a few people comparing "yummers" and "grinnity-grin-grin" to a NISA translation, most people there like it.
>>
>>15128757

MG provided everyone who already bought the game with complementary steam keys. So the 1,000 owners on Steamspy doesn't equate to 1,000 people who bought the game on Steam. And if everybody who bought the game on MG's site redeemed their free key, that would make the total number of Gahkthun owners around 1,000, which isn't very high. But that's according to Steamspy which isn't really accurate for low numbers.
>>
>>15128832
Nah, go ask them right now what they thought of it and you'll get a ton of "it's shit" posts
>>
>>15128839
It's completely inaccurate. Unless you think Tokyo Babel's sales have tripled in the past 3 days. You absolutely cannot use Steamspy to tell whether something sold 400, 1000, 1500, or 3000 copies. It will randomly jump around between numbers with huge margins of error if its under 10k.
>>
>>15128813
>Translate DI: 3+ years if you want it to be good.

But only MG cares if it's good company wise, and they aren't going to be able to afford the license.
>>
>>15128850
In that case no games they've released outside of Go Go Nippon and eden* can be gauged accurately. Very few vns hit that number.
>>
>>15128848
You will get same answer for pretty much anything: grisaia, mla, clannad and so on.
Its veggies, you can't just ask them something and get non-meme answer. Look for reviews longer than 10 words if you want to know real opinions.
>>
>>15128794
I guess you are right.
It's just that in that case I could justify the school setting, because the whole collecting heroes for a later journey thing makes it kinda plausible. Having to gather and organize many people while giving them something to do is a problem which a school as a facility answers.

But it's probably just as easy as you make it sound. Come to think of it the Ideal Woman seemed very Japanese from a western point of view as well.
>>
>>15128865
That is correct.
>>
>>15128850
Bullshit.
If you check data for rooflesbians or princess evangelie, you will see that it jumps only within margin of error it specified, with average remaining same.
>>
>>15128872

Which is partly why nobody takes them seriously. That and their opinions are shit.
>>
>>15128888
The creator of steamspy himself says you're wrong and that the sampling method he uses is unreliable for games with under 30k sales. Trying to gauge the sales of games under 5k with Steamspy is an exercise in futility, you won't get accurate information.
>>
>>15128899
Well, if numbers constantly fluctuate around 500 - 2000 for weeks it's pretty safe to say it's not like the game sold 3k or anything.
>>
>>15128893

/vn/ is made up of literal fags from /a/. They were seriously arguing the merit of leaving 'shinken' untranslated in a localisation. Who the hell goes there for serious opinion?
>>
>>15129104
Not just leaving in shinken, but leaving it untranslated when English pronunciation is given and used in its place in the form of furigana.

At this point though, it's a pretty safe bet it's just some guy shitposting to get a rise.

They're both wrong in different parts. The Jast version got the line about Cromway wrong. The other one got the last line in the screenshot completely wrong. It explicitly says that Drav destroyed Aigia, founded the other kingdom, is ruling instead of her, and if she was ruling, it'd be at peace.

Ugh, that guy over at /vg/ writes extensively in the passive. It's not good. Can't tell too much difference between the two.

He's comparing off the old Nighteye translation. He's only found three or four parts to complain about though. A couple are actual errors, but his supposed corrections have all had errors too. MG releases their games free from cuts. If there's a company worth supporting, it's them because of that.
>>
>>15130082
On the other hand, that just means they're avoiding a ton of games that might require a cut. Is that necessarily any better? In the end SP will pick them up anyway like Maitetsu.

They can have both like with Cho.

Harvest festa is also supposedly at 100% aside from image editing and small shit.

Maitetsu is at 11.16 now. Sekai actually updates a lot now: https://sekaiproject.com/progress.php

That's probably because they're not actually at 100%. Gotta pad the numbers to please the peanut gallery.

There's no sense of urgency among the staff. People come and go, work when they please and disappear for weeks a time. Not the talking heads (and dovac) that you see in their shitty livestreams or at cons, but the people who actually do the localization work. There's such a disconnect between the face of the company and those who produce the product so they don't mind fudging numbers in order to keep the masses satisfied.

Right now, April's running out and Root Double is looking like a late May release, at earliest.

I really only play these kinds of games if they've got porn in them or an interesting story. Something vanilla like "romance teh pop idolz becuz moe moe" doesn't really count as an interesting story to me unless there's porn in it. Best of luck regardless but this isn't my kind of visual novel.

Putting away the honorifics when it's a japanese setting is the most stupid choice i've ever seen.

"Sannomiya-san. Louise-chan. Yui-nyan. They're all so cute, it's hard to pick one." is what's being said here.

I'm admittedly not very far in, but I've noticed choices like this on multiple occasions already, and it's pretty annoying.
>>
>>15139165
I swing it on a case-by-case basis. In the case of Root Double, I think it's fine to go either way, but if you're going to localize them, then do it right.
>>

He definitely does based on his comments on Sonaba Bitch.

And here's a classical case of good writing.
It's showing pretty obviously at times that Sekai Project rushed the QC phase in favor of a rapid release.
Not to say it's littered with errors, but all of the errors that are made seem kind of careless or lackadaisical.
>>
>>15139255
Though how does it read overall, though?

Tokyo Babel had the same problem; no honrifics, but at least the characters weren't japanese (except one).
Now the localization of Seinarukana is plain worse; japanese settings but no honorifics (-chan, kun, sempai, etc...), buddhist concepts localized as christian ones and some obsure memes added to the mix.
>>
>>15139266
Yes, Makoto should have Ixrec teach him how to translate properly.
>>
>>15139262
Terrible horrible odd unpleasant goddamn hell. Though.
>>
>>15139285
Makoto is overhyped, he only revised the text but there are still a few mistranslations out of context there and there. I'm not you but i'm pretty annoyed that they "localized" it to christian settings and skipped all the honorifics.
>>
>>15139262
...? I-it 'reads' okay for the most part. Though, it's nothing 'groundbreaking,' but it's levels above everything Sekai Project has published besides Grisaia no Kajitsu for reasons that can't be helped...

On a more serious note, I'd say that a fair share of the issues I've had so far are nitpicks on my part.
>>
>>15139378
Yeah I didn't think it'd be bad considering the TL group.
>>
>>15139378
Okay, so I tried to shove way too many shots at the writing into a single sentence and made it a total mess. It's nowhere near that bad, but it does have all of those issues at one point.

One more nitpick is that they decided to use "--" in favor of an em-dash, or literally anything else that would look better, and it really irritates me.

If anything, their persistence is nothing short of admirable.
>>

Would be truly hilarious if its indeed leaf trying to do shit while not having any clue how it works or what steam/youtube says because they cannot into English.
>>
Are there any translations that the Japanese speakers of /jp/ actually approve of?
>>
>>15139455
Do you know where you are?

As a friendly reminder, this isn't /vn/.
>>
>>15139455
Saya no Uta, Grisaia no Kajitsu, Hanachirasu.
>>
>>15137614
Don't forget that he reviewed the original version while the one Steam is Xtend, the improved version.

>buddhist concepts localized as christian ones
People keep saying this and it's not even slightly true.
>>
>>15139668
Yeah, but translated a non-Buddhist word to one Christians would more commonly associate with Christianity but isn't a Christian word in and of itself and another non-Buddhist word to a reference to Greek mythos doesn't get the shitposters to raise their pitchforks.

Any torrent on root double yet? I've looked around, cant find one.
>>
>>15139298
>>15139255

Thats odd, because the translation group is actually really decent. I saw no issues like this with I/0 and their other translations.
So it must be just a QC problem like you said I guess.
>>15139385
Maybe they were rushed. I wouldn't go to hard on them. have yet to read it but I'm sure its a decent TL.
>>
>>15139166
Why did the translation group do this when they didn't for their actual fan translations? were they ordered not to use honorifics?

I mean as long as its translated well I don't mind but its weird they did that.
>>
>>15139794
Based on the number of Steam reviews, it looks like hardly anybody bought it.

>>
>>15139870
Its actually in popular sales and it was pretty high in top sales for a vn.
Its not as bad as Tokyo babel did.

Tokyo babel got leaked fast because it was on manga gamer.
>>
>>15139983
Wouldn't that ranking include all the kickststarter Steam keys for Root Double?

lmao they keep trying, this time the video is on a different Youtube account

I don't even know what's going on because the Greenlight ID remains the same but it keeps going up and down. They must be the one removing it themselves because a Steam removal means it should be permanently gone
>>
>>15140003
No, it's a pure revenue chart. Offsite keys don't factor in at all.
>>
>>15139870
It's doing alright considering Sekai Project stealth released it with 20 hours notice and no promotion.
>>
>>15139816
Heh. Don't quote me on it since I didn't read it. Hint: First letter of every word.
>>
>>15140584
Yeah this is really odd. Normally you'd get the usual marketing buildup with references to Zero Escape etc. Here it's like one tweet
>>
>>15139157
fuck, buyer's remorse setting in before I even install it. I don't recall lemnisca's other stuff being like this
>>
>>15140628
Didn't Ludo and possibly other lower quality translators join the group?
>>
>>15140651
The guy who did the Steins;Gate translation that had to be completely redone by Makoto joined, but that's not Ludo.
>>
>>15140628
I don't feel like thats really not bad as long as its translated well, but yeah they didn't do this at all before.
someone must of made them.
They arent bad translators, nobody ever gave them shit till now.

>>
>>15140795
That doesn't mean that it's impossible for them to have done a shitty job now.
>>
>>15141187
I don't think it would be like that, since they love the infinity series to death. Its most likely some rushed QC. they took a long time or even two QC trips with their other translations to make sure it was perfect. So it might not be the translation but the QC like someone mentioned in this tread. the "mr" and "miss" is a localization (no matter how much some people like me thinks its retarded) choice so you can rule that out. Who knows the reason they used that choice out of nowhere unless they were making it seem less japanese for the steam and vita kids.

Danganronpa 2 is one other choice that just gets rid of it completely.
>>
>>15140795
If this is how its going to be then I won't be holding my breath for secret game and rebellions from them
>>
>>15141227
What you mean with how they used the honorifics?
Well I don't really care its just a choice out of a few on how to deal with japanese shit.
they might abandon it if enough people hate it.
but the translation as a whole should be fine.
>>
the only people who want honorifics in English writing are nerd weebs who like to pretend they know japanese
>>
>>15139873
Why is dovac retarded? His below 5% sales and 95% piracy of Nekopara patch should have taught him the community abhors that scam method.

Just price all-ages and patched version the same. Solves all problems. (Except the imaginary one where people will say they refuse to buy all-ages games if it isn't half price).
>>
>>15141424
If you don't want honorifics you are retarded. Nobody can accurately translate one characters name into san, sama, kun, chan, pyon forms without it turning into the dumbest nickname feast ever.

By all means skip it if the entire story only contains san. But if it is part of character interaction it needs to stay to not turn into weaboo speak.
>>
>>15141488
>honorifics need to stay to not turn into weeaboo
>>
>>15141488
You don't have to translate san sama kun chan. You remove it because english doesn't have honorifics.
pyon is an affix to a name and that can stay in the english translation.
fucking weebs pretending to know japanese thinking pyon is an honorific.
>>
>>15141424
In other words, the audience that would buy visual novels with anime art on Steam
>>
>>15139831
I'm honestly thinking it's SP's fault. They're trying to reach out to a broader audience by making it more English/Western and alienating their actual niche consumers in the process. I really don't want to fault Lemnisca for this, but I'm probably just sucking their dick.
>>
>>15141591
Why would SP suddenly declare a mandate for translations to be done a certain way, on a project that was already nearly complete before SP was even involved?

Face it. Your golden boy isn't so golden, and it's nobody's fault but his.
>>
>>15141424
Even if you don't want honorifics, what they did here is still a stupid way to deal with them.
>>
>>15141591

SP wants
>>15141424
>>15141587
this.
So seeing how its based on their past translations this can only mean one thing, they were told to do that when they asked.
>>15141601
yet we have no idea if it was complete, SP could of had them this whole time.
>>
>>15141605
Yes, we do know. Because they announced it was over a year ago.

Or you can say that they were lying when they did that, in which case they're liars instead of idiots.
>>
I really just want the fucking vn, torrent where.
Its gonna be good no matter how they did the shitty honorifics.
>>
>>15141626
then buy it.
I don't understand the "OMG FUCK DOVAC but.... I don't mind reading the work he does"
"I HOPE DOVAC DIES... but I wish he continues licensing and releasing VNs that I want to read"
"FUCK SP I HOPE THEY GO UNDER but I hope they continue releasing games for me to play"
>>
>>15141644
Dear shill, I wish to kindly remind you that game was already fully translated as fan-tl and would be released much earlier if dovac wouldn't interfere. We don't need his "services" or licensing already translated stuff.
>>
>>15141657
But now it gets a Vita port and people can get physicals / other goods.
More importantly, lemnisca can get paid for translating. Why are you complaining when you're not even a customer. Unless you're a prospect customer / actual customer, you have no right to complain about how a business operates.
>>
>>15141670
That's not how it works.

That's not how any of it works.
>>
>>15141670
Of course I can complain, share pirated copies, black PR his shitty company, send messages to devs telling to not work with him and do everything else I can to destroy him. That's my right as free man, something you would never understand, corporate slave.
>>
Why didn't they just add -poo to the end of each name?
>>
>>15141424
The only people who read visual novel are weebs who like to pretend they know japanese. Your point ? You liberal cunts are just faggots in denial.
>>
Man nobody is uploading root double, reminds me when we use to wait for cracks on here back in the day. like for higurashi from manga gamer.
